The Best FREE 0800 ISP

Advantages: no connection fee, no setup charges, no call charges, no monthly fee, additional services too.
Disadvantages: they disconnect you after an hour to allow other users to log on to their free service

...With no setup fee, no connection charges, no monthly rental and no call costs this has to be the best ISP in the UK today. I've been using this service for over a year now and it just got better. They call it 'ic24'. It started with free clling during the following hours on the weekend: 0900-1000, 1100-1200, 1300-1400, 1500-1600, 1700-1800. This time then incresed and I was then able to log on to the net for free on weekends anytime between 0900-1700. This time was again increased when free calls were recently introduced between 2000-0000 on every weekday evening. I also use ic24's 0800 number to access WAP services for free from my 7110(details of which can be found in my article on 7110). And ic24 also provides additional services like all other ISP's too....

A Cheap ISP

Advantages: Cheap with Free technical advice No yearly contract
Disadvantages: None found so far

...I have been using ISP's for the past 3 years and have certainly noticed the price's are increasing and speed's are slowing down. I therefore decided to "shop around" for a faster connection speed and a cheaper price. After surfing the web I found a few that were cheaper than our current provider (Freeserve) but these companies tended to have a 12 month contract clause. When I asked if they would guarantee a higher speed than I was recieving they replied NO!! We had been with Freeserve for over two years and the connection speed was decreasing as the months went by. Unfortunately we were in an area that could not get the maximum speed but in the early months of our time with Freeserve we were getting a conection speed of between 37 and 40 kbps so were happy enough. However in the last 6 months they had been changing there connection...

Tesco is a brilliant newcomer to the ISP market

Advantages: User friendly and very reliable. Three Tariffs to choose from Anytime, Daytime and PayAsYouGo.
Disadvantages: You get cut off automatically after ten minutes of 'inactivity' online, with no warning!

...To start with, don't spend money buying their disc at the checkout and don't be put off by that! Ask for one online or ring them. They respond at once, the information arrives pronto and saves you 50p! You can always ask your local store to ring up for you and get one sent!! I nearly didn't research them, as I object to paying to simply try something out, but I was really pleased that I got the disc and I was very pleasantly surprised at the difference between their service and f.e. AOL or even Freeserve. They do not have a free help number, but they do answer very quickly and they are helpful and don't waste your phone bill - mind you, I doubt you will need to use the Helpline for Tech support, as the service is good. If you do get a problem, they respond quickly and politely. Tesco.net is a good ISP for anyone who is not...

* The old hands free CARK Kit . .

Advantages: Very good sound reproduction, always set up ready for use.
Disadvantages: Needs an external anrenna, plus fitting. Dated nowadays.

..., (as are the phones is it made for) but the principle is brilliant, you have a phone holder that gives genuine hands free operation, with sound that is virtually as good as a radio. Your own voice is picked up and transmitted with the same clarity. The holder itself is very good, if a little large by modern standards, it holds the phone safely and securely, whilst recharging the phone battery. There is no vibration, and the phone will not fly out of the holder at level crossings. I do realise that a lot of bluetooth headsets are replacing this type of kit nowadays, and they are very clear, but these kits do have their merits. The speaker is mounted wherever you want it, and so the sound comes equally to both ears, unlike the bluetooth that goes in one ear only. The microphone is equally good, being able to pick up sound of very good...

Pros and Cons of Tesco ISP.

Advantages: Cheap & Easy
Disadvantages: Few.

...I joined Tesco's ISP because I moved from a Telewest area to a none Telewest or NTL area :( I wanted the cheapest ISP around because I wanted value for money. I currently use the Anytime tariff and have been a customer for 4 months. Tesco ISP comes with three tariffs, £12.99 for Anytime..(with NO restrictions of how many hours you can be online ...unlike BT). Pay as you go, from 1p per minute (or cheaper if you add the number to your BT friends and family), and Daytime 2am - 4pm for £5.99 a month.(I'm 99% sure this includes weekends too). Tesco are currently doing 2 months free with anytime, and you are under no obligation to stay with them. If you do stay, you are billed via a credit or debit card at the end of your month ..but please check which cards are accepted, Visa Electron, and American Express are currently not...

Free ISPs

Advantages: Free, excellent customer care, unlimited surfing
Disadvantages: some teething troubles

...I recently signed up to one of the many 'free ISPs' on the market today, I had been warned about how they consistently cut you off and never have any customer support to speak of, but when I got there I was pleasantly surprised. The ISP I use is called Red Hot Ant and it works out to cost 80 quid for the first year and 30 quid a year after that. When I first started using their service I must admit I was never done writing complaining e-mails to their customer service department and I was always moaning about how I never got dialled up, because I could never get connected to the server. But I persevered with the system and now, I can safely tell you that there is not a happier surfer anywhere in the UK, I can get online on my first attempt and stay on for as long as I like, the service in general is also absolutely first rate, so...

Quite literally 'Meat free'

Advantages: Substantial, healthy, low fat and calorie meal
Disadvantages: Slightly sickly; quite sloppy; bland veg;

...Let me first clarify that I am by no standards a vegetarian; I love white meat such as chicken and Turkey, and the occassional sausage and bacon. I like spaghetti bolegnaise or shepherds pie ready meals but I actually can't stand minced meat; it's grisly and chewy - even the extra lean stuff. I find this a shame becasue I love to make homemade dinners. I was browsing the rice aisle during our shop at Asda when I spotted 'Asda Meat free savoury mince' in a packet. Now, I wouldn't write a review for the sake of it. I'm writing this review because you, like I did, may be slightly wary of a packeted meat free mince product that costs just 58p. Moreover, the front design is er, less than appealing to your average buyer. Basically, the packet is 120g with a green bordered edge. The front is predominately taken up by a large picture...

Free ISP 24/7 in the UK

Advantages: Its free and you have shares in an internet company
Disadvantages: no newsgroups

...Ezesurf is a service provider that, for a small initial outlay allows you free call internet access 24/7. The cost buys you shares in surf saver so not only do you not pay for a phone call but your shares could increase in value. It has all the usual stuff like multiple e-mail addresses but no newsgroups. It's great and as fast as any other provider i've tried. Go to www.ezesurf.net and see for your self. It's all unmetered and you can do what you want like play games online etc.Its fab just check it out....
