Advantages: Free texting, easy enough to navigate, 8 free texts a day.
Disadvantages: Some features expensive, very slow loading, TERRIBLE background music!

...Uboot is the first service that I came across on the net to offer free SMS. So far I have not found a better one. Some limit you to how many you send a day. This is not the case with uboot. You do have to register with them but then you do for most other SMS services. The messages are sent really quickly and you don't get annoying adverts which really slow thing down. When the message is sent it gives your username. I have made my username my name. That means that I don't need to put my name at the bottom of each message. You get 160 characters which is the same amount from my mobile. It has saved me an absolute fortune when sending messages to my friends. ...Oh I love this site! What is it? Textmessenger is another one of those sites that provides free SMS messages. Simply sign up for an account, log in and you're flying. What's an SMS then? SMS stands for short messaging service - basically allowing you to send 160 characetrs of text to any digital mobile phone. Why Use TextMessenger Then? Well basically because it's free and easy to use. Like I said, sign up for your account, log in, click send (at which point you have to log in again for some odd reason). Then the nifty part - once you enter a phone number for the first time, it will prompt you for a name so it can add this number to your address book - then the next time you use the site it's just a matter of picking the name from the address book, instead of finding the number on your phone and typing it in. You have to sign up to use it (but thats free too!) and the best thing I like about this site in comparison to other sites that have the free sms idea is the fact that you can have a "phone book" on the site - so you dont have to get your phone, route through all the numbers just to find the phone number....great idea if you ask me! Also the fact that there is no hassle involved makes me come back to this site time and time again! You simply send the message (unlike most others when you have to sort out the number into different catagories and include the country code etc!) Sending an SMS? KAPOW!

...Incase you didn't know, an SMS gateway works like this: SMS from my PC-->SMS gateway-->SMSCentre(o2 etc)-->mobile phone The Kapow site is http://www.kapow.co.uk/ I use SMS from the internet to send messages to my friends and relatives instead of using my mobile phone. I started off using free sms from yahoo, lycos and uboot, but it was really unreliable and most of the time the message appeared to be from a funny number instead of from my mobile. Also I would ask people if they got my messages as they hadn't replied and they would say that they didn't receive anything from me. Another thing that annoyed me was that most of the time the websites added a 'tag' which advertised their company, this meant that half the message I was sending had already gone. Even when I sent test messages to myself the quickest a message came through...

...Why pay to send SMS messages people asked. Everyone was fed up with paying up to 12p to send SMS messages so breathe.com set up a free SMS sending site. This was great apart from the fact you had to join up and it also took a while for the SMS messages to arrive at the recipients phone. To solve this Lycos UK set up a SMS service which was free and did not require signup. People were happy for a while untill someone asked. "Why can't we recieve them online as well?" Well now you can. ICQ 2000b has its own SMS messaging service that now allows you both send and recieve online SMS messages! YOu can also have default signatures and send to both UK and international phones!!! ICQ is free, but it does require signup, yet it features so many other fantastic features.
