The BIG drive with little problems !
Review of Freecom Classic SL 250 GB by
damionh
Advantages: Portable Drive, take your music and files anywhere !
Disadvantages: Easy to knock
...Freecom Classic SL 250GB USB2 External Computer Hard Drive.
The Freecom 250GB Classic SL drive was a bargain when i bought it, even PC World were selling it cheap ! I paid £89.99 when the offer was on at PC World.
The drive has a massive 250 GB capacity sat inside a USB case which simply plugs into the USB slot on your computer, because of this, you can take your music and files practically anywhere and can back up your system and keep it unplugged for times when you think you might have a virus ! this is much easier to do than to open up the box and unplug a second "internal" hard drive.
The drive has an average seek time of <9ms, a track to seek time of 0.8ms and an average latency of 4.2ms. These figures basically mean that this drive is no slouch !
The USB 2.0 connection means that it has a transfer rate of UP TO 480 Mbit per...

Freecom...or Expensive con?
Review of Freecom Classic Hard drive 250 GB by
Cyber-Mark
Advantages: Small footprint, USB connectivity, good capacity, quiet
Disadvantages: All the above completely let down by the units reliability
...the consistancy check in windows, though there never was anything wrong following the check.
I became increasingly worried about the data stored on the unit - so much so that I purchased a couple of internal 120GB HDD's and backed up the Freecom using a USB to IDE connection cable (basically allowing me to use an internal hard drive externally). This is of course crazy - backing up the backup because you have little faith in the original.
It proved to be the right choice though because one day the Freecom would not read or recognise at all! Boy o boy! back ups are a good thing and my fear was justified. At this point I felt completely conned by the promise versus the reality.
I abandoned the Freecom for about 6 months but one day I thought...its bust anyway so I will open it to see whats inside. What was inside was a 250GB Western Digital drive...

Not perfect but close
Review of Freecom Hard Drive Hard drive 250 GB by
warandpeace
Advantages: Easy way to add storage
Disadvantages: More expensive than internal drives
...Having realised that on both of my internal drives had only a couple of gigs of storage free each, I realised that it was time to get an additional drive.
My first thought of course was another internal drive, however unfortunately however I didn't actually have the space inside the case to fit a new hard disk. (Only 2 hard disk bays in my computer), and so turned to external drives.
I eventually settled on a 250GB Freecom drive, which at the time seemed the best balance between cost and storage capacity, at just under £100 at the time of purchase, though I notice you can now get them for about £70.
Appearance: The external drive consists of a silver coloured plastic box, slightly larger than a conventional internal hard drive. As well as the drive a USB cable and power cable where also provided. To set it up is incredibly simple...

Great Value Network Storage
Review of Netgear SC101 Storage Central by
tetsuocloud
Advantages: Flexibility, Smartsync Software
Disadvantages: Simultaneous access to Mac and PC
...Not sure whether i was going for a Freecom NAS Hardrive or one of these, so read up a bit and ended up going for the more flexible approach that is the Netgear SC101.
It certainly didn't let me down. I plonked a 25gb seagate hardrive into it and ran the software on my laptop. plugged in the netgear sc101 into my wireless router and within 5mins my laptop had found the 250gb hardrive wireless and was now formatting.
The installation was certainly straight forward. Couple of things worth noting i didn't get the full 250gb from the drive infact i only got 232gb. No sweat i happy with 232gb.
You can assign an admin password so you don;t get anyone messing with your data and there is also an option of partitioning the drive and mapping the drives to as many drive letters as you wish.
It also comes with the smart sync software which...

Freecom 500 GB External HD Review
Review of Freecom Hard Drive Hard drive 500 GB by
djdavep2007
Advantages: Fast, Reliable, big capacity & amazing value for money!
Disadvantages: Doesn't look like it would take too many heavey knocks
...This is a pretty standard USB HD but with a whopping 500GB for under £100 it is amazing value for money. So far I've had no problems with it. I run mostly audio/graphics from it (which is very demanding). This HD has no problems dealing with the big files I Use, providing an excellent transfer rate. It is pretty quiet, the only noise it ever makes is a slight hum! I carry this every where I go with my laptop, it's taken a few knocks and survived OK, but I wouldn't want to test it too much, as the case doesn't look like it would protect the drive too well! The design is pretty funky and its size isn't too big either! I've had big portable drives before which were a pain to transport! this fits into my laptop bag perfectly! This drive is well worth the buy....

DOES NOT work with an Mac iBook!
Review of Freecom ToughDrive Pro Hard drive 160 GB by
efredric
Advantages: seemed sturdy and well-liked
Disadvantages: actually stopped working within a month of purchase date
...I purchased this "Toughdrive" to store my ever-growing digital music collection. It would work sporadically, often turning itself off. I emailed Freecom, who informed me it was a power related issue (they send you a free power adapter if you live in the UK). One marketed feature of the Freecom Toughdrive is that it derives its power from the USB port, and hence doesn't require any extra plugs. As a consequence, they are not sold with the necessary component to operate properly with low-powered notebooks. By this point, my Mac iBook wouldn't even detect that it was plugged in to the USB port. I got my power adapter, (which I had to buy from another company because I live outside the UK), and it STILL doesn't work. I want to return it, but can't because it has all my files on. AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS!...

Great value
Review of Freecom Hard Drive Hard drive 400 GB by
03bintls
Advantages: No fan noise
Disadvantages: Annoying light when you turn PC off
...Originally i wanted to replace my old 250GB external hard drive with something of at least 500GB, and was looking to spend around £200. But then I saw an offer at PCWorld for this drive for £109. I went to the store and then used my student discount to get it for (what I thought was an amazing) £98.99. I felt the loss of 100GB was worth a 100 quid saving! But still, 400GB is a massive amount of storage. Most people will have no problem fitting all their music, videos etc etc on it.
The biggest plus about this drive I think is that it doesn't have a fan. Pretty much all other drives do, and this can make them quite noisy. This one on the other hand runs almost silently, with just the faint spinning discs being apparant. Store it under your desk though, for example, and you can't even hear this.
For anyone who has had external drives...

Decent bit of kit for the money
Review of Freecom Classic SL 250 GB by
03bintls
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Rather noisy
...with it (I haven't even taken it out of the packaging yet). I have a silver version which I think looks a lot better than the black one, and the metal surround gives a sturdy feel to the thing. This also makes me less concerned about transporting the drive form place to place.
To sum I would say that this should be the drive to go for if you are looking for a 250GB capacity....

THE MEMORY DEVICE.
Review of Freecom Classic Mobile 2.5" Hard Drive USB-2 120 GB by
packerlist
Advantages: portable and free spaces
Disadvantages: LOW IN PROFILE.
...Well my system has been in use for the purpose of storage and I normally store lots of information in my computer mostly pictures and it has occupied most of the memory space in my system. I got this specifically for the purpose of extending the memory capacity in my system that has only 4GB hard drive to compare to what I do on my computer.
The Freecom storage device has enough memory storage space that will be able to store your information almost to infinity. It also comes in a shinny black rectangular structure.
I think that I have gotten up the point of buying some thing that has larger space for my system because my 4 GB hard drive cant carry on any longer and I have to get this in support of the existing 4GB drive.
Well I have to be frank by saying that this is my first time of using a freecom memory storage device.
EASE...
