...Last year whilst on holiday we visited the Freeport outlet centre at Hornsea, East Yorkshire. For those of you not familiar with them it is basically a big (mainly) outdoor shopping centre with lots of brand name shops. The difference though is the price, most are 50% less than you would pay on the high street. It wasn't well advertised, we just stumbled across it by accident, but so glad we did. On our first visit it was late in the day so we only had a chance for a quick look but decided to return later in the week, which we did. This time we arrived early morning. The children were aware of a big leisure area from our previous visit so of course that was the only place they were intersted in. So we knew we had to work this right. Freeport Shopping Village

Advantages: Bargains
Disadvantages: You may have to look sometimes

...I can't believe no one else has written a review on Freeport!! Well I will be the first! Freeport is in Braintree just off the A120, near loads of Fast food restaurants and shops like Comet. I think it is great, it opened about 2 years ago, and not all the shops were being used. But they are now and it is still expanding and I think it will end up being huge!! Braintree?s main attraction, unless you can think of any others?! At the moment it is set out in a huge circleish type shape and there is also an aisle down the middle, but I think this may change soon as there will be some more shops as building work is being done. Some of the shops offer student discount don't forget your card!! Freeport has its own Station to; trains run regularly and are reliable!! It has a wide range of shops, mainly designer labels...

Shop Till You Drop

Advantages: Cheap designer and sportswear
Disadvantages: Limited availability of sizes

...Freeport Shopping Village was opened on the outskirts of Braintree just under six years ago, at which time it came as something of a revolution to this sleepy but fast growing market town, whose town centre consisted largely of estate agents, umpteen charity shops and a couple of 'department' stores which made Grace Brothers seem like Harrods. There was a tremendous hoo-hah from local shopkeepers who feared it would encroach upon their business, and after much debate, the scheme was eventually agreed by the Council, on the proviso that the Freeport outlets wouldn't be allowed to sell, at discounted prices, goods that were currently available on the High Street. Hornsea Potteries - Not any more.

Advantages: outlet stores offer discounts
Disadvantages: not as good as some of the other outlets

...As I lived in Hornsea for a while I thought I would focus this review on the Hornsea Freeport which is situated on the edge of this seaside town in the East Riding of Yorkshire between Bridlington and Hull. Hornsea itself is a lovely looking small town with a small centre - no chain stores here due to council objections, but thats another story - and a lovely beach area which has recently been renovated. We still go down to Hornsea once or twice a year as I have friends there and it's my bloke's home town so the inevitable family visits occur. I must admit coming from Arbroath which is a bigger seaside town I found life hard there as there is no anonymity living there and I didn't realise how much I took a decent size supermarket for granted (there is a small Co-op and a Heron frozen food shop) as well as having shops like...

Fleetwood's not just famous for its fish!!

Advantages: Cheap, good day out for all the family
Disadvantages: Can be a bit smelly at times!!

...Freeport at Fleetwood near Blackpool has just undergone a major overhaul with existing shops having facelifts and additional shops being added. I used to enjoy visiting to pick up a few bargains, but now that it has been improved, it is even better!! For those travelling by car, Freeport can be reached by exiting the M55 at junction 3 and then following the A585 to Fleetwood. There are plenty of signs to pick up which will take you straight there without risk of getting lost!! The car parking facilities are really good at the shopping village with loads of space. The car park has actually been extended to accommodate even more visitors, so finding a space isn't usually a problem. If you prefer to travel by bus, you can hop on the No 14 if you are travelling from Blackpool, or the F2/F3 if you are coming from a day out in...

Real Retail Therapy

Advantages: A great relaxing day out

We had such a pleasant day I thought I should write a review to let others know what they are missing. Where is it? ***************************************************** Now most people coming here will be coming by car, if this is the case then your best bet is to head for the M62. Hassle free shopping!

Advantages: Impressive discounts
Disadvantages: Not enough to do to last a whole day

...I visited Freeport Shopping Village in Braintree for the first time recently. Before I arrived I thought the outlet would be undercover like other shopping centres. The fact that it isn't meant we got a bit cold in the gusty winds! Parking is free, which is great when you are used to high prices for town centre parking. There are around 80 shops there, and I will mention some of the ones we visited. There was a large Next store with big discounts. I will warn you that there were no chairs to try shoes on, and no changing rooms. I found this very strange, and we live too far away to try things on when we got home and bring them back if they don't fit. There is a Marks and Spencers which is small. The Per Una range is included in their stock, but I wasn't impressed with anything inside, I thought I had gone back in time! We...

Castaway to Bahamian Paradise

Advantages: Quality hotel at affordable price
Disadvantages: Not on the beach

...it's one of the cheap-flight routes out of my local airport and, um, I felt like it. I chose to stay at the Best Western Castaways Resort in Freeport on Grand Bahama island because of the big brand name and the price - for the equivalent of a Liverpool Travelodge I could stay at an upscale hotel in paradise. The hotel is exterior corridor, but more secure than some because to get to those corridors you have to pass through the lobby and swipe through a door. The rooms are spread over 4 floors with the best being on the ground floor - these are mainly suites with fridges, sofas and private terraces. I was in a regular room on the 3rd floor, and had a mini balcony which was barely deep enough to step out onto, but useful for when you wanted to sit in the sun while in bed (open the sliding doors and you could do just that...

Prezzo Italian Restaurant at Freeport.

Located off of the A120 at the Freeport Designer Village turning near Braintree it sits next to the large car park for the shopping centre. Opened in 2003 it is new and sparkly clean. Very large with lots of covers yet it does seem 'intimate'. The overall impression on entering is that this is a quality restaurant. The menu bares this out. Wholly Italian, we have eaten here several times and taken guests. Prices for a main meal average from £5.95 ( Quarter chicken with potatoes) to £7.95 (Pollo Carbonaro: chicken, diced bacon and tagliatelle in a cream sauce). Starters vary from £1.95 to £4.00. Desserts are available but I don't have the prices. They're good, though. Booking is advisable for weekends. The food? Excellent and very filling, prepared in an open kitchen...

Choice Hotels in Blackpool

Advantages: Well appointed,clean, kids club,spacious,good food,friendly staff
Disadvantages: None

..., once you've stayed, your keycard provides a discount on your next visit. But if you're coming to Blackpool, why not visit other places? The Lakesre only 1/2 an hour away - Cleveleys and Fleetwood (and the factory outlet site, Freeport) are only a short car or tram ride away (about 3 and 5 miles respectively) from the Cliffs. Morecambe and Lancaster are about 30 mins away....
