Advantages: Good quality reception, plenty of channels avalible
Disadvantages: Expensive, limited HD channels so far

...with it is the limted HD reception, admitedly it does look a lot better than normal digital. But it may just be the area i am in but i only have 1 dedicated HD channel. The rest have to be found by using the red button on the normal show. And even then the only HD tv seems to be football or tennis, admitedly for me it is not a bad thing. Im sure the variety can only get better though. Maybe doesn`t justify the expensive but is a solid all round freeview box....

Freeview - The clue is in the name!

Advantages: Lots of choice, up to date TV guide & text services.
Disadvantages: Have to buy a box of course!

...When a friend of mine decided to upgrade to Sky + with HD I inherited his Freeview box for free. It was around £29.99 brand new about 3-4 years ago from Tesco. Freeview is very simple to set up, you just connect it to your TV by a scart lead & then plug your TV aerial in to the back of the box. You can then do a scan and it will pick up all channels in your area. If you do not have the best signal you can use a signal booster or a signal amplifier to enhance your signal but please note that this will not work if you are not in a Freeview receiving area. I will not bore you with channel lists etc, if you want to see what channels are available as well as see if your postcode is a Freeview enabled area then please visit www.freeview.co.uk The website is very informative and I have used the Freeview box in 4 or 5 seperate locations...

...guess is that until DSO the line up probably wont change tremendously - perhaps the addition of a E4 music channel (pure speculation), UKTV offering (again speculation) and quite possibly more radio stations. Hopefully some of the quiz channels will be replaced in the process. By 2012 their will be more bandwidth and hopefully an influx of new digital channels (just maybe), and perhaps the free to air services from BBC HD will become available as well as a free video on demand service from the BBC. Disadvantages: Poor bit rates and resolution on some channels, often need new aerials

...Freeview is the brand name for the non subscription part of Digital Terrestrial TV, also known as DTTV or DVB-T. It is a consortium lead by the BBC with the transmitters owner, and Sky TV. ...I purchased this box initially for the Euro 2008 Matches which were shown on ITV HD as well as BBC HD. Upon opening the box, the first thing I noticed was how small the foxsat is. To give an idea I'd say it's 3/4 the size of a standard Sky digibox. The unit itself is supplied with the remote control, batteries, scart cable, component cable, and a reasonable quality HDMI cable. Connection of the box is very simple with just one connection to the satellite dish, mains plug and HDMI cable to your TV (assuming you are using a HD ready TV, which you should be if purchasing a HD receiver).
