.... You will know when the bulb is ready for harvesting as the leaves start to turn yellowy brown and dry out. Lift your new bulbs gently, trying not to prong the fork through them and hang somewhere to dry out. It doesn't matter too much where this is so long as it is warm and dry, it can be inside or in a shed. If you are particularly arty you can plait them together but they are fine on their own. Once dry they should easily keep for about 4 months. That's it - about 18 garlic bulbs for the cost of one. ** It's the beginning of July and I have just added some pictures of my freshly dug garlic that is now ready to dry. They are a bit small but never mind I'm sure they will taste great! Thanks for reading....

Garlic - Bad Smell of Success

Advantages: Seems to alleviate a host of ailments.
Disadvantages: Causes odour, some may be intolerant to it.

...Much seems to have been written about garlic being good for the heart, cholesterol, circulation and a host of other conditions, but I thought I would add my "two-pence-worth" based on my experience of this pungent little herb. To begin with, I must say that I have never found any benefit in taking garlic supplements, whether or not they were of the odourless variety. Save them until spring and then pot them into some gritty compost. Put out in the sun and keep watering well. Cut finger length shoots and use them in stir-fries. More shoots will grow so you can have more another day. In the kitchen you can use it in all your usual recipes, but why stop there? Try roasting whole cloves with potatoes, red onions and red peppers. Sprinkle with olive oil and fresh thyme. Roast for an hour and serve with grilled chicken breasts. Keep dracula at bay with fresh garlic

Advantages: Ability to chose the amount you use.

...Well sorry folks, this is going to be my first negative review! I did try this product - although quite expensive at £5.99! As I thought it may be a convenient way to have garlic available. I love garlic and put it in most things I cook. I love making garlic butter too and making my own garlic bread (I don't make the bread, I buy french sticks - I'm not that good LOL). I found that as the garlic is preserved in vinegar that affected the taste of the garlic. I must admit that getting a teaspoon out to get the required amount of garlic appealed to me - no more smelly hands or smelly chopping board. After trying it a couple of times I soon went back to squashing and chopping fresh garlic. I mean, how difficult is it really. Fresh garlic works out much cheaper and is really not that much more difficult that opening a jar...

I've been trying to economise, which mainly means that instead of buying Asda own brand, I'm trying, where I can to step down to the smartprice brand - the cheapest they offer- in order to make my money go further . I don't do garlic but i like this!

Advantages: Tastes good but not too strong

...I must start this review by telling you that I don?t like garlic ? I never have. I do like garlic bread but that?s about as far as it goes. Consequently I never have fresh garlic in the kitchen as it isn?t something I would consider cooking with.
