...Of all the takeawys you can buy my favourite is the good old KFC. I treat myself and the kids evey so often because we all love it. Lately we've been having the family feast which includes 12 peices of succulent chicken, which is a mixture of drumsticks, breast and legs. Also in this feast is a medium sized coleslaw, a mediums sized baken beans, and a medium sized gravy. There are 4 portions of chips too. They also throw in a bottle of any fizzy drink they sell, we usually have diet coke. All for the price is £12.99. In our local takeway if you ask them they will give you the parts of the chicken you want if you are fussy. I'm not I'll eat all parts. ...As I was growing up I have heard everyone rant and rave over this fast food chicken place called Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC for short). My awful experience with KFC was located in Dubois Pa. KFC has many locations in the US (I do not know about outside the US). KFC only sells chicken products like...chicken breasts, chicken nuggets, chicken fingers and chicken salads just to name a few ( they also serve side orders with their meal deals like...French Fries). They are most famous for their big buckets of the Kernals chicken. As I think about writing my opinion on KFC....my stomach turns! ...For one of my favourite meals, I like to get myself a takeaway filled full of KFC chicken. Sounds reasonable enough doesnt it? Provided you like Chicken. But what else do they sell? Well not a lot im afraid! If you dont like Chicken, you are stuck. Saying that they do offer a wide range of ways to cook it. I personally like to purchase one of their larger products called the "bargain bucket". It used to be aptly named but has recently changed slightly. ...even on the very busy Friday night. Communication is difficult when they have their awful 'music' tuned up. There is the odd glitch though, where they forget the 3rd piece of chicken or do not put salt napkins or forks in the bag. **** The food We love the usually succulent chicken with the skin made crispy with the Colonel's secret coating recipe. I say usually, because occasionally, like the last time I went, the coating was thin oily and tasteless and as a result the chicken tasted of little more than cardboard. May be it was because it was very quiet that night and the food had been standing too long - but it does show that KFC may not be 100% consistent. ...On rummaging in the freezer looking for a quick and easy meal for tea, I found Tesco Southern Fried Chicken Pops. They look rather tasty on the picture (on the front of the packaging) shown with a tomato type dip. Cost £1.79 or buy 2 for £3. These Pops are made from Chopped and shaped chicken (only 50% Chicken) coated in a crispy American style batter and spicy coating. (Newer version according to the packet) 200g Pack size. They are in a sealed plastic tub, when I opened them they have a spicy aroma, there is approx 20 little ball shaped Pops. To cook them in an oven takes 12 mins chilled or 14 mins from frozen at 220C or gas mark 7. When they were ready i tried one and found it did indeed taste spicy with a moist chicken centre and the coating was crispy too, I added a mayonnaise dip along with a salad which was a lovely... ...My general experience of Kentucky Fried Chicken,mainly limited to outlets in Malaysia, Singapore and the UK,has been not very good.Indeed knowing of the simply marvellous chicken dishes in Asia such as Chicken Tandoori,Chicken Madras, Chicken Tikka,Thai green curry, Hainanese chicken rice and Indonesian/Malaysian Nasi Ayam I am little short of amazed that so man young Asians flock to KFC outlets every day. ...Here we go with another foray into the wonderful world of frozen convenience food! Something I rely on quite heavily being a non-cook, single bod with a tight budget. My yummy choice this time is Oriental Express Chinese Chicken Stir Fry, a ready meal in a bag which has been a mainstay of my freezer compartment for a good few years now. A little bright green plastic bag displays a tempting picture of the meal and, for a change, it DOES actually look pretty much like the picture when it is cooked! Prices for this can vary enormously but my latest purchase from Tesco was £1.99, on a buy one get one free offer. Elsewhere I have seen the price for this range from about £1.60 to £2.19 so you may need to shop around. ...Well what can I say, As a family we really enjoyed these Southern Fried chicken portions, I didn't purposely go out to buy them, just saw them on offer and thought what the hell I'll give them a try. They are really delicious, we have tried similar products to these before, and they have never seemed to get it quite right, but Iceland has got this smack on, There is generally a good mix of Chicken drumsticks and thighs, so whichever your preference its satisfied. Best I found is to cook them in the oven, keeping an I on them as to not over burn them, as with most products there is a cooking guide on the packet, but I have found that it is always best to use your own instincts and cooking abilities, frozen products can be a bit awkward to get right. ...sigh when 20 seconds later you pick your meal, as though its taken you 2 hours. Then its there turn, there's no ice, sorry the cokes run out, you can have that plain if you will wait 5 mins while they scrape the sauce into the bin, the ice cream machines not working, sorry we'll exchange the cold uncooked chips for more cold uncooked chips, the skin is hard and crunchy because it's a new recipe(which means it's been re-cooked). Then you sit down, IF you can find a table that even begins to look as if its been cleaned, some time in the last 24 hours. Oh well you finally eat your meal, Cold Chips, hard skin and scolding hot beans, at least each one cancels out the other.
