Frigidaire - One Hot Kettle

Advantages: Cordless and reasonably priced
Disadvantages: A bit heavy

...Kettles are like light bulbs? you know they are going to need replacing one day. When I do set out to buy a new one, I do no research the market like I would a new television or PC, but I guess I do require one to be cheap (but not too cheap) and ?sort of? cool looking. I found this with the Frigidaire FCL-G362. When I got divorced I did not leave the marital home with much ? I was glad to depart with my sanity intact, to be honest (I think I did anyway, keep my sanity). I won?t go into the whole divorce thing too deeply here, but I left with a few bits and bobs and these included the kettle. You could say I got custody of that old white Philips. It came with me to the flat I now reside in alone (save for when the kids come and stay at weekend). It made many a cup of coffee and boiled many a nip of water for a hot toddy. I can?t say...

Frigidaire leaves the rest in the cold

Advantages: Acres of space in the fridge, A rating Engery
Disadvantages: can be noisy at times, not the biggest of freezers

...-- Background -- We have always had seperate fridges and freezers for the past 10 years. The last fridge we bought was a bit of a panic buy as we were in the middle of a heatwave and the fridge we had at the time blew up. From then on we have always complained that the fridge was actually too small. With this in mind, I was a little sceptical of paying over £300 and being disappointed. We decided to go for the Frigidaire after many google searches as we were impressed with the price and the capacity of the unit. -- Whats in the box -- There are no surprises in the box, you get the fidge-freezer which comes very well packed. I'm guessing it took us around 10 minutes to get all the packaging off. Inside the freezer compartment in one of the drawers you will find the instruction manual and the door handles which need to...

Filtered to perfection

Advantages: Many advantages, see review.
Disadvantages: None.

...The professional photographers like myself or the high end amateur photographers will probably all have used or tried using some sort of lens filter or another. Lens filters are designed to screw on to the end of lenses (mainly DSLR) to create different effects, you get many types of filters from the simple UV like this one through to polarizer's and star filters. This Hama UV filter is mainly used for cutting out the harmful effects that can be had both on your lens and on your images by UV light but they are handy also for the simple task of protecting your lens glass and that is why I for one have one on all my lenses at all times. If you catch the glass of your lens and scratch it or god forbid break it you are looking at a huge outlay for a new one where as if you have a simple UV filter, it takes the knocks and can be...

Hoya UV Filters, A vital accessory for your lenses.

Advantages: Filters out UV haze, Protects your lens front element.
Disadvantages: None

...Introduction Ultra violet filters are probably one of the least glamorous and most mundane photographic accessories around, yet they are an essential part of of your system, and practically all photographers fit them to the front of their lenses and leave them there. So who makes them?, what are they?, what do they do? and why would you want one? I will try and answer these questions below. Firstly who makes them? There are several companies that make filters for camera lenses, but Hoya, "the subject of this review", are one of the biggest and well known brands of filter around. Hoya was founded in Japan in 1941 and have their headquarters in Shinjuku, Tokyo, they manufacture optical products ranging from laser equipment and photographic equipment to contact lenses, and they are one of the world's leading...

Filters Ahead Of The Rest

Advantages: Great Tasting Water
Disadvantages: Wants You To Change Filters

...I have had this water filter for about a year now and brought it after I dropped exactly the same model and cracked the jug. I think so much of this product I went and brought a new one without hesitation and have recommended as well as buying it as a present for many friends. In case you haven?t heard of a water filter it comprises of a plastic jug with another ?plastic thingy? that sits in the top with a hole in the bottom into which you screw in your filter. Your tap water (yuk) goes into the top ?plastic thingy? and filters through and then you pour it out and enjoy your water (yum). I missed out a plastic lid that goes on top just to keep water from sploshing out when you pour of dust getting in. I keep mine in the door of the fridge because cold refrigerated water tastes so much better than tap water. Set into the top...

Its time to change your Tefal Quick Cup filter

Advantages: Neat filter cartridge replacement as easy as changing a light bulb
Disadvantages: Maybe you need to change it a little too often

...The Claris Quick Cup Filter Cartridge is the proprietary replacement water cartridge for use with the Tefal Quick Cup. This filtered water kettle-replacement is also capable of dispensing both room temperature and hot water. The Red button with an integral filter-replacement reminder lamp and is used to dispense hot filtered water for your coffee and tea. Review of Tefal Quick Cup Claris Filter Cartridge

filtered water - an unrealistic dream?

Advantages: easy to use
Disadvantages: hasn't improved the taste of our tea

...We live in a hard water area in Bristol and are always having problems with limescale - we've been through many kettles in the last few years. My husband and I are used to the taste of the water now, so we don't really notice it, but when we have visitors they often complain about the drinks we serve. So, we were thrilled when my parents bought us a Brita Elemaris Cool Water Filter jug for Christmas along with a refill pack of 3 MAXTRA cartridges. Apparently they were fed up of the strange taste of our tea! Brita make the following claims - "You will enjoy cleaner, clearer, great tasting water" and "protects your domestic appliances against limescale build up". "The BRITA MAXTRA cartridge reduces substances like chlorine, limescale..., aluminium, heavy metals... and certain pesticides as well as organic impurities." Excellent...

Review of Brita Elemaris Cool Water Filter

Brita Elemaris water filter jug

Advantages: The water tastes better than previous filters, it's much easier to fill and use.
Disadvantages: Still takes quite a bit of cleaning but again, a step up from the original jugs

...Having owned and used a Brita water filter on a regular basis for several years, I couldn't resist purchasing the Elemaris when I saw it on offer at a bargain price on the shelves of our local Asda. My original filter jug was full of water, so the first thing I did on unpacking the Elemaris was to pour a glassful from each jug to compare them. I was pleased to observe that the water in the glass poured from the Elemaris appeared cleaner and much clearer than that from my old faithful. On tasting both samples, the one poured from the Elemaris won hands down - it tasted much fresher than the drink from the other jug. Our tapwater has quite a nasty taste when unfiltered but the Elemaris removed this. The Elemaris is much easier to fill than the earlier models and the filter does it's work much more quickly - my first jug took...

Review of Brita Elemaris Cool Water Filter

Brita Marella - excellent value, easy to change filters

Advantages: Cheap, great colour range, easy to change filter
Disadvantages: lid isn't held on only by a small click, comes off easy if knocked

...I picked up one of these on ebay after noticing white residue in the water from our taps. I read quite a few reviews for many different water filters and found a lot of complaints about hard to install/exchange filter components. I found this Brita one, with very easy plug in filters. Works great, no strange taste, and it filters the water reasonably quickly. Capacity is good, and the colours these come in are very nice. We got a red (passion) coloured one, which is rather tasty for a kitchen appliance I guess. You have to change the filters on these every month, go to ebay to buy a pack of 12 or so to get a decent price on these. Watch out for the lid if you've just filled it with water and are going to prematurely pour a glass of water - the water can burst from the top as it's only held on by a click and gravity. Otherwise super...

Review of Brita Marella Cool Water Filter

Fancy a Cuppa? This could do it for you.

Advantages: Up to 1.7 litre capacity. Safe and simple to use. Filter for fresher water.
Disadvantages: Takes too long to boil. Not aesthetically pleasing to look at. User manual a bit ambiguous.

...A kettle is one of those appliances that it is almost impossible to imagine any kitchen without. For one brief period a while ago this is exactly what happened to me. I woke up early one morning, and the very first thing I do is put some water into my kettle and boil it for a refreshing cup of good old tea. But shock. It had lived its course, and refused to boil the water. After ten minutes of this I realised something was wrong. It had died after four years of loyal tea-making service. So that very day I went and bought myself a new one. Not being an expert on the subject I simply looked for the cheapest available, and at a tenner, this was the Frigidaire FCL1713 cordless kettle. The packaging is quite basic, though it doesn't need to be much else. It has a picture of the kettle itself and the make of it. The main details are...
