Fuerteventura - Wonderful family destination
Advantages: Great weather all year round. Gentle cooling breeze, lots to do.
Disadvantages: You have to come home!
...I have just returned from a fortnight long holiday on the gorgeous sunny island of Fuerteventura - one of the Canary Islands. I travelled with my 2 children ages 10 and 7yrs old, and we all had a wonderful time. I will try to do some justice to this beautiful island in this review.
I travelled there on an all inclusive package deal from Thomas Cook at the end of June, and stayed at a 3* hotel - The Hotel Costa Caleta (which I will review at a later date)
During my time there the weather was around 38-42 degrees most days and was only slightly breezy most days. As you can imagine this got a little bit too hot at times and you really had to get yourself out of the heat by jumping in the pools. I would advise plenty of suncream and plenty of non alcohol fluids!
We actually had a sun care advisor who advised against using a factor...

Monica Beach Hotel, Fuerteventura
Advantages: Great hotel catering for both families and couples
Disadvantages: Don't mention the war :)
...In the past my wife and I have been pretty relaxed about where and how we holiday. We've done all inclusive, B&B, Half Board, City Breaks, Beach Holidays, make it up as we go along etc.
However we now have a 5-year-old boy to look after and so our holidays have to be thought through in advance.
This year we chose Fuerteventura as our holiday destination and chose the Monica Beach Hotel on the recommendation of our travel agent because of its reputation as a nice family orientated hotel.
The trip from Birmingham Airport takes about 4 to 4 1/2 hours. I'm not going to talk about the flight since different airlines will offer a different standard of service. Suffice to say that I travelled with MyTravel and went 'cattle class' :(
After meeting other people at the resort we later found that people had travelled from airports as far...

Fuerteventura - A couple's point of view
Advantages: Perfect for a relaxing holiday, a beach lovers paradise
Disadvantages: It can be deceptively windy in June/July
...I have visted Fuerteventura twice and I have visited many parts of the Island. I was 19 when I went last, with my boyfriend. We stayed at Playa Park Hotel in Corralejo in 2004.
The Hotel was simple yet cosy, fantastic for a young couple, it had everything we needed. We didnt have any trouble at the hotel, the staff were pleasant and helpful. The tour rep was available if required, and we arranged a trip to the south of the Island (Jandia) which was equally as beautiful as Corralejo.
The long sandy beaches are stunning, especially the sandunes. Camel rides are availble on the beach, although we didnt get chance to ride them.
We stayed self-catering and I believe it was worth it. There are a choice of restaurants and bars in the evenings which range from quiet local bars, to lively clubs. It is not expensive when compared to...

fuerteventura - wild, unspoilt, worth the trip!
Advantages: amazing landscape has to be seen to be believed
Disadvantages: the public transport is a bit patchy in places but theres lots locally to take up interest
...Fuerteventura is unlike any place I've been on holiday before. One of the Canary Islands, its off North Africa, which makes it about a 3 1/2 - 4 hour flight from the UK but in my opinion is worth the trip.
When my boyfriend and I were there we stayed in Caete de Fuste. Unfortunately I cant remember the name of the apartments. There are plenty restaurants and pubs, there's plenty of things to do at night.
Also there are things for kids, like going to the beach. Its a man made beach but is all golden sands and really is nice. The sea is fine for bathing, and to top it all off there's a guy who gives sandcastle lessons every week! I managed to miss it but some of his work was on display at the beach, the big monuments built out of sand - amazing! Just wish I'd been there to do one of the classes. there's also the chance to go camel...

Caleta Garden: family fun in Fuerteventura!
Advantages: Hotel atmosphere, staff
Disadvantages: Distance from beach
...hours which the teenagers could participate in.
The reception, bar, hotel and restaurant staff were all amazingly friendly, and they embraced the playful atmosphere of the hotel - it was the perfect way for me to spend my last high school summer holiday.
The food in the restaurant was sufficient, nothing mentionable - but they had their fair share of poolside snacks and they were nice, but nothing really out of the ordinary. The nearest supermarket was about 10 minutes into the resort, abit annoying as it seemed to be blended in with all the restaurants.
Overall though, the hotel was more than I expected, there were other amenities such as a jacuzzi on the roof giving you an amazing view of Fuerteventura, a gym, a sauna, the games room, the restaurant, bar and the entertainment. Perfect for hotel for families, perfect resort...

A lovely pool-side holiday hotel.
Advantages: Full facilities provided, good food, gorgeous pools, lovely rooms.
Disadvantages: Same meals each day, quite isolated, noisy activities in main areas.
...My dad loves poolside holidays where he can relax and soak up the sun in a worry-free environment. When it comes to taking us on holiday, nothing can beat the Fuerteventura Princess. Instead of the normal straightforward 'what's what' review, I thought I'd take a moment to drag the reader through all the possibilities of a day in this idyllic hotel...
A DAY IN THE LIFE...
Everyone knows that the most important thing on a poolside holiday is - no matter how controversially - to get your towel down in a good spot. At eight o'clock you can yawn, stretch and paddle out of your room onto the outdoor wooden walkway, down to the white paths which wind around the hotel, past the chittering flocks of little birds and luscious trees, to the pool. Pick your spot - the shallower family-friendly pool? The smaller one with the waterfall...

THE SUN SHINES AT THE OASIS DUNAS!
Advantages: attractive, good amenities, apartments are nice
Disadvantages: none
...In October 2008, I returned to Fuerteventura with my mum (I started a review about my previous trip a while ago but have yet to finish it - hopefully it should be up at some point in the fut.ure!) We visited there in October 2006 and, after Lanzarote, it had been my favourite Canary Island, so off we headed. We'd decided from the outset that Corralejo would be the resort we would return to, so my mum selected the Oasis Dunas for us to stay at. I had no complaints about this as the pictures of it looked very appealing!
LOCATION
The complex was at the opposite end of Corralejo than where we had stayed previously. The last time we were there, we were basically right next to the harbour, which was handy for my mum to watch the ferries go in and out (she likes that).
The main parts of the resort were still easily accessible, as we...

Warm and Windy
Advantages: Not too far to Travel for some sun
Disadvantages: can be windy
...I suppose that all of us have that favourite place, where we have had a memorable holiday and this is the case with the Island of Fuerteventura in my case. We first visited the island in 1994 and have returned every year since.
It is one of the Canaries and the least developed. A long banana shaped island it only measures 60 miles in length and road access is mostly limited to the central and eastern side. The west coast is strictly for 4x4 vehicles with a rugged lunar landscape due to the volcanic history of the island.
There are three main areas; to the far North is the town of Corralejo, which is the busiest of the tourist areas. It has one long street lined with the usual café’s, souvenir shops, banks etc and runs down to a harbour, which is also the ferry to Lanzarote. Corralejo is surrounded...

Advantages: The prices especially ciggies
Disadvantages: Booze is cheap as well. hic!!
...Into the valley of death rode the, how many members do Ciao UK. have, facing trouble, disruption and bankruptcy but brave souls that they are, like lemmings, look neither left or right nor flinch in the face of annihilation.
I think I started this op on a holiday to Fuerteventura off on the wrong foot, but what the hell I’m not getting paid for it anyway, so let’s get back on topic. You’ll have to excuse me if occasionally I digress because, although it’s my intention to describe what a wonderful week my wife and I had in Caleta de Fuste. My mind keeps thinking I’m doing this for sod all and the only people benefiting from my endeavours are Ciao and the travel companies. If anybody at this stage has the self-effacing indignity to mention the Premium Fund...
