Fuerteventura - Wonderful family destination
Advantages: Great weather all year round. Gentle cooling breeze, lots to do.
Disadvantages: You have to come home!
...I have just returned from a fortnight long holiday on the gorgeous sunny island of Fuerteventura - one of the Canary Islands. I travelled with my 2 children ages 10 and 7yrs old, and we all had a wonderful time. I will try to do some justice to this beautiful island in this review.
I travelled there on an all inclusive package deal from Thomas Cook at the end of June, and stayed at a 3* hotel - The Hotel Costa Caleta (which I will review at a later date)
During my time there the weather was around 38-42 degrees most days and was only slightly breezy most days. As you can imagine this got a little bit too hot at times and you really had to get yourself out of the heat by jumping in the pools. I would advise plenty of suncream and plenty of non alcohol fluids!
We actually had a sun care advisor who advised against using a factor...

Fuerteventura - A couple's point of view
Advantages: Perfect for a relaxing holiday, a beach lovers paradise
Disadvantages: It can be deceptively windy in June/July
...I have visted Fuerteventura twice and I have visited many parts of the Island. I was 19 when I went last, with my boyfriend. We stayed at Playa Park Hotel in Corralejo in 2004.
The Hotel was simple yet cosy, fantastic for a young couple, it had everything we needed. We didnt have any trouble at the hotel, the staff were pleasant and helpful. The tour rep was available if required, and we arranged a trip to the south of the Island (Jandia) which was equally as beautiful as Corralejo.
The long sandy beaches are stunning, especially the sandunes. Camel rides are availble on the beach, although we didnt get chance to ride them.
We stayed self-catering and I believe it was worth it. There are a choice of restaurants and bars in the evenings which range from quiet local bars, to lively clubs. It is not expensive when compared to...

fuerteventura - wild, unspoilt, worth the trip!
Advantages: amazing landscape has to be seen to be believed
Disadvantages: the public transport is a bit patchy in places but theres lots locally to take up interest
...Fuerteventura is unlike any place I've been on holiday before. One of the Canary Islands, its off North Africa, which makes it about a 3 1/2 - 4 hour flight from the UK but in my opinion is worth the trip.
When my boyfriend and I were there we stayed in Caete de Fuste. Unfortunately I cant remember the name of the apartments. There are plenty restaurants and pubs, there's plenty of things to do at night.
Also there are things for kids, like going to the beach. Its a man made beach but is all golden sands and really is nice. The sea is fine for bathing, and to top it all off there's a guy who gives sandcastle lessons every week! I managed to miss it but some of his work was on display at the beach, the big monuments built out of sand - amazing! Just wish I'd been there to do one of the classes. there's also the chance to go camel...

1000 Fags Researched
Advantages: The prices especially ciggies
Disadvantages: Booze is cheap as well. hic!!
...locally as an English breakfast. Electrical goods are good value since Fuerteventura, like the other Canary Islands, is a duty free area. I mean 1000 cigarettes, John Player Super Kings, cost £44. The same in Britain would cost a shade under £200. If any member reading this works for the Custom and Excise this was only done as research for this opinion. Although these islands are part of Spain they are treated as a none EEC country as far as duty free allowances are concerned.
The small beach is man made and very clean but the sea floor is stoney therefore it’s uncomfortable to walk into the ocean. The sea, actually the Atlantic Ocean, is a fair bit cooler than the Med. but still warm enough to bathe in and because this town’s in a cove it is usually quite peaceful with only small waves...

Warm and Windy
Advantages: Not too far to Travel for some sun
Disadvantages: can be windy
...I suppose that all of us have that favourite place, where we have had a memorable holiday and this is the case with the Island of Fuerteventura in my case. We first visited the island in 1994 and have returned every year since.
It is one of the Canaries and the least developed. A long banana shaped island it only measures 60 miles in length and road access is mostly limited to the central and eastern side. The west coast is strictly for 4x4 vehicles with a rugged lunar landscape due to the volcanic history of the island.
There are three main areas; to the far North is the town of Corralejo, which is the busiest of the tourist areas. It has one long street lined with the usual café’s, souvenir shops, banks etc and runs down to a harbour, which is also the ferry to Lanzarote. Corralejo is surrounded...

The Quiet Canary Island
Advantages: Quiet, charming, friendly and not too comercialised
Disadvantages: Might not be enough to do for kids
...If you tell most people that you are going to Fuerteventura they will ask you "where's that?" Those that have heard of the island and have never been there will tell you that its windy; and it is. However, this is not Blackpool sea front in November windy. In the off-season when temps are in the seventies/eighties the wind can make it feel a little colder than it is but temperatures are still very high in our winter months. During the summer, temperatures can reach up to and over a hundred and then the breeze is very welcome.
The island is the second largest of the Canary Islands after Tenerife and lies just south of Lanzarote. Fuerteventura has four main resorts: Corralejo in the north of the island; Caleta de Fuste in the middle and closest to the airport and the neighbouring resorts of Playa Jandia and Costa Calma located in...

A Week in the Sun
Advantages: Sunshine, Relaxing Pace
Disadvantages: Lack of breathtaking scenery
...I am just back from a week in Fuerteventura, and I thought I would share my thoughts with you while it was fresh in my mind.
I booked this holiday no more than six weeks ago, in the Thomas Cook branch in Glasgow. It was a question of what was available, for the particular week we could travel, in either Fuerteventura or Portugal, and Fuerteventura came up tops.
We were looking for a quiet relaxing holiday, with reasonable, even if not luxury, accommodation and a decent resort with good restaurants but no noisy clubs! (Far too old for that now). I also wanted named accommodation, not accommodation on arrival.
I eventually settled on a holiday with JMC, staying at the Fuerteventura Beach Club Resort, at Caleta de Fuste for £250 pp, compared to brochure price of £348 pp. The accommodation was rated as 3 star by JMC, although...

NOT CLUBBIN...JUST CHILLIN
Advantages: great beaches, relaxed atmosphere, nice climate
Disadvantages: not much nightlife
...One of least discovered or commercialised of the Canary Islands, FUERTEVENTURA is a bit of a haven for those of you looking to relax ‘away from it all’.
The picture I was painted of the island before I booked four years ago was one of Sun, Sand, Sea and....Camels! Does not quite live up to that rather idyllic sounding portrait, I must say.
It does have some nightlife, but very much resort centred and there really is not that much for the more ‘club cultured’ of you out there. My sons were taking their last holiday with us ‘old folks’, when we visited ‘Fuerte’ and they were not greatly keen on it. Not really Ibiza, Magalluf or Ayia Napa, but still for a family it is lively enough.
The Island has two main resorts available to British travellers. On the northern, windier coast is...

Futureventura
Advantages: Warm
Disadvantages: Strong winds, Lack of Places of any real interest. Fairly poor nightlife for families.
...Situated at the very North of The Island of Fuerteventura is the town of Corallejo.
As this is my 10th Holiday abroad in the last 7 years I would say that I am experienced enough when I say that the apartments (Punta Elena) are one of the best that I have stayed in. In fact only one other apartment has been better. They are 3 star in the Cosmos Brochure and I would recommend them to either families, couples or elderly and disabled. In this case we travelled as a family 0f 4. The rooms were spacious enough and the furniture was almost new. Very Clean. No one would be disapointed with these apartments.
Not only were we delighted with the apartments, but also the reps were very informative, helpful and excellent with the children.
The pool area too was lovely and a life guard was on duty from 10am until 6pm. Bar snacks and drinks...

Crashing out in Corralejo
Advantages: Peaceful, tranquility at it's best
Disadvantages: not much for teenagers
...If you're looking for a a nice relaxing holiday, look no further.
Fuerteventura is now firmly established as a tourist retreat. So what can this island offer you?. Why bother taking a four hour flight?
The landscape of this island is to be frank, quite baron, Fuerteventura itself is a volcano, or rather it was, erupting some 10, 000 years ago, forming the island as it now is. Looking around at the lanscape you can clearly see where rivers of malten larva once ran down it's slopes. Over the years it's inhabitants have slowly brought life to this island and have now turned it into a growing tourist destination.
The main town on this island is Corralejo, situated on the northern coast. The town is fairly small but there you will find an array of shops, bars and restaurants. Due to it's size Corralejo is easy to get around on foot...
