The 'dust shake' mechanism that activates when you switch it on helps prevent dust build-up on the sensor which has to be a major plus point. This is my first digital slr although I am familiar with film slr cameras and, also, basic compact digital cameras. I found that the transition to more advanced digital photography relatively simple with the E500. The E500 is fairly light to carry but not so light that it impinges on the ingegrity of the camera. The complete kit consists of the camera, software CD and download cable, including an adaptor for Macs. the camera itself is a self focussing device about 5"x3"x1", and is quite light. It feels a little fragile, but is sturdier than it looks. it comes complete with a 2Mb card, which allows 21 pictures on a normal quality picture, but only 5 on high quality. The set up menu allows you to choose which setting you want. it also allows you to adjust file sizes, two choices, 640x480, or 1280x1024. at the highest setting the picture definitin is truly excellent, but it does take up huge amounts of space on the card.
