Bad service and product on Fujitsu Amilo D1840

Advantages: the price
Disadvantages: everything else

...ended, my HD gave an terminal error, It broke down. (12months and 2 days). I Had to replace that (170 euro's). Now in the 14 month of me owning a amilo d1840 my adapter has exploded, and because it's an 20v 8A 4 pins adapter (which is unreplacable by an generic adapter) I have to wait for 2 weeks for an new adapter which costs me 120 euro's. This is probably the worst laptop I have ever owned! THis product is a shame for a company like Fujitsu. No reasonable support from fujitsu allthough they knew this notebook had these problems! In my comprehension this is no service, or good publicity for fujitsu, SO fujitsu, what are you people going to do about this! I could use some support for spending 2500 euro on your faulty product!!!...

Look You can?t go wrong with sleek, black and stylish (unless you?re in a Monty Python movie), and the Fujitsu Siemens AMILO L 3220t (why can?t things like this just be called Fred or something?) pulls this look off really well. It fits with almost any computer hardware set. It is of a reasonable size and is not too bulky (4 kg) but doesn?t have you squinting to see the screen (22 in). ...i had this notebook as replacement for a damaged computer, it was brought brand new from the shop and i regret the moment i ever clapped eyes on it, in a lot of the fujitsu laptops they all appear to get cracks on the top right hand corner of the screen and then progress to get one on the left also.. i had the computer for 2 weeks before the first crack became apparent, i just thought it was a mark and tried to clean it off with special wipes for the computer , then i realised it was a crack, it got worse and worse and now has a 1 mil gap between each bit of plastic.... around where the charger whent then progressed to small crack to big then snapped off, and the top of the computer got cracks in it too which are proceeding to spread as we speak..... the inside of the computer may be good but the outside is really cheaply...

Amilo 1840 D not fitted to Linux

...Bought in 2004, this laptop has always been running under Linux (various distributions). Some major problems : very hot (due to 2.6GHz CPU), may crash sometimes in summer. When computer is hot, network cable connexion stops working. No hardware acceleration after 4 years ! This is due to ATI (now AMD) lack of stable driver release over the past years. Unstable wifi support (BCM card) through ndiswrapper of bcm43xx modules. Batteries are not working anymore (5 min at most). Suspending to disk has never worked (from 2004-2006). Too noisy. Problems to get Windows license reimbursed (lack of cooperation from fujitsu-siemens). Some good points : multi-threading support. high CPU speed which I used to run several CPU-consuming scientific simulations. Battery life and heat are its to main troubles the battery life doesnt last long for some of the programs i use, but thats because they are top end 3d modeling software, and the alptop does get hot after alot of use. The keyboard is real nice i love it, the layout is very cool and though there is one major annoyance the num lock is above the back space and if you slip and hit it, some of the letters become numbers lol thats happened a few times. ...I have had my Fujitsu AMILO Mini Ui 3520 six months and it's been worth every penny so far. I paid £230. I feel lucky that i came across this netbook while searching for something to compare with the higher priced HP netbooks. Its got everything you need and more. I was pleased to get the windows operating system, which meant i had no compatability issues with my braodband dongle. The battery size is great, fully charged, I get 4 hours constant use. The webcam is a bonus. Mouse buttons are nicely located and sized. Speakers are just right. Styling is upto date, I like the white, even though it comes with a second marroon lid cover, I just need the white porsche 911 to go with it. Memory card slot is perfect.
