Bad service and product on Fujitsu Amilo D1840

Advantages: the price
Disadvantages: everything else

...ended, my HD gave an terminal error, It broke down. (12months and 2 days). I Had to replace that (170 euro's). Now in the 14 month of me owning a amilo d1840 my adapter has exploded, and because it's an 20v 8A 4 pins adapter (which is unreplacable by an generic adapter) I have to wait for 2 weeks for an new adapter which costs me 120 euro's. This is probably the worst laptop I have ever owned! THis product is a shame for a company like Fujitsu. No reasonable support from fujitsu allthough they knew this notebook had these problems! In my comprehension this is no service, or good publicity for fujitsu, SO fujitsu, what are you people going to do about this! I could use some support for spending 2500 euro on your faulty product!!!...

Amilo 1840 D not fitted to Linux

Advantages: multi-thread, CPU speed, longevity
Disadvantages: ATI video card, heat, noise, Windows license

...Bought in 2004, this laptop has always been running under Linux (various distributions). Some major problems : very hot (due to 2.6GHz CPU), may crash sometimes in summer. When computer is hot, network cable connexion stops working. No hardware acceleration after 4 years ! This is due to ATI (now AMD) lack of stable driver release over the past years. Unstable wifi support (BCM card) through ndiswrapper of bcm43xx modules. Batteries are not working anymore (5 min at most). Suspending to disk has never worked (from 2004-2006). Too noisy. Problems to get Windows license reimbursed (lack of cooperation from fujitsu-siemens). Some good points : multi-threading support. high CPU speed which I used to run several CPU-consuming scientific simulations. ...hardware for it too like a printer as there might not be a sutible vista supported driver out to support it. So i highly recomend sticking with Windows XP which is preinstalled on this laptop. This laptop is equipt with 1gb ram which is more than enough and will stop pc slowing down and freezing up. Which can later be upgraded to 2gb but you will have to spend money out of your pocket. Now the graphics card may not be one of the best but if you are not planning to play the latest games then this shouldnt be a problem. Drivers for this laptop can be downloaded via ATI(AMD) site or fijitsu siemens as standalone drivers may not be compatible with it. ...would send some disks that would put this right. So I turned off the Laptop to wait for the disks which, still have not arrived 1 week later. When I decided to turn the Laptop on again it came up with a message saying Disk Error, press any key to continue, I pressed any key and the same message was repeated several times but the Laptop would not start. I again phoned Fujitsu/Siemens and was told that it was to be returned to Comet for refund or replacement, but that they had to have a copy of the reciept from the manager at comet to send the code needed for this to hAppen. So I had to phone Comet to get this done, this was completed the same day( Thur), but no number was sent to Comet until the following Mon, this was when I finally decided to ask for a refund. I have not been able to asses how good this Laptop was, but can say honestly...

Look You can?t go wrong with sleek, black and stylish (unless you?re in a Monty Python movie), and the Fujitsu Siemens AMILO L 3220t (why can?t things like this just be called Fred or something?) pulls this look off really well. It fits with almost any computer hardware set. It is of a reasonable size and is not too bulky (4 kg) but doesn?t have you squinting to see the screen (22 in). ...i had this notebook as replacement for a damaged computer, it was brought brand new from the shop and i regret the moment i ever clapped eyes on it, in a lot of the fujitsu laptops they all appear to get cracks on the top right hand corner of the screen and then progress to get one on the left also.. i had the computer for 2 weeks before the first crack became apparent, i just thought it was a mark and tried to clean it off with special wipes for the computer , then i realised it was a crack, it got worse and worse and now has a 1 mil gap between each bit of plastic.... around where the charger whent then progressed to small crack to big then snapped off, and the top of the computer got cracks in it too which are proceeding to spread as we speak..... the inside of the computer may be good but the outside is really cheaply...

...the house. or maybe in the back gardens, and conecting to wirless networks through this cimputer couldnt be mre simpler. This laptop is not all that great for gaming and multimedia as it only comes with 64mb of graphics which is a real down side. is fine to view HD pictures on. the laptop comes with a 15.4 inch widescreen display which isnt all that bright, fujitsu should have improved the screen quality here! the general look of the laptop isnt all that bas, although the silver scratches very easily, which is a very dowside. overall i would reconment this laptop for persons only looking to use it for personal and everynow and then use, i wouldnt recoment it to perople who are into gaming or heavy computer users....
