So I turned off the Laptop to wait for the disks which, still have not arrived 1 week later. When I decided to turn the Laptop on again it came up with a message saying Disk Error, press any key to continue, I pressed any key and the same message was repeated several times but the Laptop would not start.
I again phoned Fujitsu/Siemens and was told that it was to be returned to Comet for refund or replacement, but that they had to have a copy of the reciept from the manager at comet to send the code needed for this to hAppen. So I had to phone Comet to get this done, this was completed the same day( Thur), but no number was sent to Comet until the following Mon, this was when I finally decided to ask for a refund.
I have not been able to asses how good this Laptop was, but can say honestly...

This is the Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Xi 2528. It is a laptop designed for entertainment purposes whilst still being very cheap in price.
Fujitsu Siemens are well known for their cheap laptops, and are also quite well known for making basic laptops and therefore don?t really have the best reputation in the market.
However that is all changing now, instead of sticking to the mold of cheap basic laptops, there branching out and are starting to make ultra portable laptops that compete with sonys, and dells whilst being a lot cheaper too. They are now also making entertainment laptops with great specifications and features that come in at just a fraction of the price of some of its competitors and the AMILO Xi 2528 is one of these.

Scaleo 600 P4 2.53
Advantages: Brilliant easy to use and you do get the windows xp disk
Disadvantages: none really
...and within our budget.
We purchased 2 FS P4 computers with 80 GB drives 2.53 CPU's and ATI graphic cards for £998 all in but without any other warranty.
That was in 2003. I am now using this same FS P4 computer to write this reveiw.
The scaleo in that time has been brilliant and proved 100% reliable. The back-up disks you get with FS computers (Still to this day) are the only company as far I know who still give the Windows XP disk and a driver disk......None of this partition stuff on the hard drive. which is good and when you think about it if you have windows on the hard drive as a partition and the drive goes(even when new and it does happen) you are in a world of hurt.
Fujitsu computers for us have been brilliant and as has been said already, when the warranty is up, you can upgrade them easy with plenty of room and they use...

An Unexpected Bargain
Advantages: A good all round system
Disadvantages: DVD writer software

So with the exception of the merely adequate speakers, the lack of a game port (both minor complaints), the support for DVD+R/DVD+RW only (buy a spindle of each to avoid obsolescence) and the unusability of Ahead Nero (Easy CD & DVD Creator Platinum 6 available new for £27 inc P&P on Amazon UK Marketplace), this is a cracking system and well worth the price; the free upgrade to 17" flat panel and the interest free "buy now pay nothing for 12 months" really sold it for me.
My final word is on the PC World finance: if you don't pay it off in 12 months you will get clobbered with a huge penalty, effectively doubling the price of the PC, and then charged a princely APR on your monthly repayments on the whole amount (purchase price plus default penalty). So make sure you pay it off...

AVOID this machine
Advantages: the retailer will take it back

• contradictory advice given, depending upon whom one talks to
• the machine instantly becomes unusable if you turn it off in the first 20 minutes of operation
• no warning on the box that this will happen
• no recovery or system disks provided with the computer
• an exorbitant 36.50 Euros to buy the recovery disks with a 4 day standard waiting time for delivery
• recovery disks can be sent only to America, according to the website
• the computer will not run Windows XP, the only known reliable version of Windows in current use
• I was more than once by tech support told the computer will run XP when clearly it will not, because Fujitsu-Siemens make the hardware to run only on Vista
• available drivers and firmware updates...

Advantages: graphics, works most of the time

...I first got the Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P computer around one and a half years ago. At the time the computer was vary good and suitable for our needs, however since then technology has moved on somewhat.
EASE OF SETUP
I was not the person to set up this computer however the family member who had set it up commented that it was the hardest computer to set up that he had ever encountered. I have recently tried to restore the computer to it's factory setting however was unable to do so as the manual has no information on how to do so. All in all a very difficult computer to restore, however I have reason to believe that the eprson who set it up, who was not very good with computers used the operating system disk to install the operating system, despite it being preloaded, which needless to say makes thngs alot more difficult...

...The Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P desktop computer is a great all around machine for all types of user. It is now available in most high street stores and can be picked up for around the average high street price.
Design
The design of this computer is great. It is a mini stand up grey tower with a darker grey face at the front. It measures 20cm X 43.5cm X 37.3cm The system looks sleek and modern with neon lights shining from the bottom and around the power button just off the bottom.
It is also quite deep with the space to install extra drives and storage mediums, which would be great for the possibility of a future upgrade.
Processor
Almost all of the Scaleo P range provide the user with an Intel P4 processor with integrated HT technology creating faster speeds when trying to multitask.

...This review is for the Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 2540 laptop.
In the box
In the box which you are given you have initially the laptop. The laptop is safely secured and fastened down by some tight plastic sheeting.
On the outside of the sheeting you have the power connector and you have underneath the laptop plenty of manuals. The manuals are guides on how to use the laptop and also information about registering your laptop online.
There is also a few discs included and one of them is a power management disc which is to be used when you need drivers reinstalling on the computer which might be lost and the other disc is for you to install some programs which might have gone missing as well.
All of these items are securely packaged and in a very solid box.
