...It isn't often that an established brewery brings out a new regular beer into their portfolio. There are many occasional or seasonal brews out there, but generally once they get their list of core brands that is how it stays. This is why I was pleased to see that Fullers were brewing a new core beer. I was also happy to get a chance to sample it at this year's Barrow Hill Rail Ale Festival at the end of May. A Voyage Of Discovery

Advantages: Interesting exhibits

...I've passed by the RSS Discovery many times without visiting and when I had some Tesco days out vouchers to use up I decided to visit as it is next door to the Olympia leisure centre which the kids love visiting. The Royal Research Ship Discovery is the ship which Captain Scott used for his groundbreaking Antarctic expedition in 1901 and it has now been lovingly restored and sits in a custom built dock on the Firth of Tay near to the famous Tay road bridge. The first part of the exhibition is in the Discovery dome which is split into nine separate areas which tell the story of how Discovery was built, the Antarctic expedition and the men aboard the ship. The first exhibit you come to is a cinema which tells the story of the men involved in the expedition; most will have heard of Captain Scott but there were 45 men in total...

An Excellent Discovery

Advantages: Very interesting and informational
Disadvantages: Too many repeats.

...This happens to be one of my favourite TV channels, not just my favourite on the satellite network, but out of all the TV channels. When there looks like nothing entertaining or interesting is on the main channels I always end up at the Discovery channel!! There is always something interesting going on here. It is educational, therefore suitable for all the family. They show a variety of good factual programmes and often have 'special' nights, where you can watch an array of programmes on the same topic - great if you are interested in that topic, and even better if you want to learn more about a certain topic. I personally enjoy Thursday nights, which is called 'Crime Night' and features 'The Medical Detectives' for an hour, then 'The FBI Files' for another hour, and then 'The Forensic Detectives' for an hour! Fullers London Porter

Advantages: Nice complex, roasty taste. Not too expensive.
Disadvantages: A bit heavy sometimes. Not as refreshing as a lager for example.

...Fullers London Porter. 5.4% ABV Usually £1.89 for a single bottle. But on the current 4 for 3 deal at Sainsbury's it comes to £1.42 per bottle. London Porter is brewed by Fuller, Smith & Turner Plc at their Griffin Brewery in Chiswick London. Next to the river Thames in their 350 year old brewery which is the oldest in London. It is easilly available from Sainsbury's and probably also from the other main supermarkets. The porter has a smooth, roasty and complex taste. It's quite rich so is more one for a quiet night in than if you want a few more beers. It's colour is very dark, almost black. There is a slight tint of ruby if held up to the light. It holds a thick, tan coloured head which clings to the sides of the glass. This is similar to a stout, only with a sweeter malty flavour and less bitter than...

Advantages: Goes and carries everything, everywhere.
Disadvantages: Not quickly....

...I've owned the Discovery for 2 years now. Yes it's had problems, a lot of these were down to previous owner and where he took it for repairs though. I rebuilt the head after gasket failure, only to find someone had already been in there and 'bodged' it. Radweld should be banned..... After getting it running like it should do, I can say that I will keep this car as long as it still runs. It does everything. It goes everywhere. It carries and pulls anything. We go skiing in the Pyrenees every year, the Disco does the job perfectly. Carries all the kit, no problems. Camping in the summer, not a problem. The Discovery will take you anywhere.... just not quickly. Off road, you will not find better (and yes mine does go off road, regularly). Fuel consumption is between 28-30 mpg. ...I have used the Fuller CV service to review my CV and also to look at my covering letter. My problem was that I had far to much to say, and indeed my CV was overloaded with information. I was telephoned by their consultant in my field at exactly the time I requested and given a full hour of advice and discussion. In just a few days from my original contact with the firm I had a completely revised CV in my inbox. The covering letter was also much reduced and much more to the point.
