...The T-Mobile G1 is my first foray into the world of smart phones. Previously a keen Sony Ericsson Walkman phone user, I wasn?t too sure how I?d adjust to such a dramatically different phone. Honesty, I adjusted quite well. The G1 takes a bit of time to get used to but I don?t regret my decision.
Appearance and Design
The G1 has a rather simple design. It has a 3.2 inch screen and is 117.7 mm in length, 55.7 mm in width and 17.1 mm in thickness. Below the screen is a menu button, answer and cancel call buttons, a back button, a button tacking you back to the home screen and a trackball. Beneath this row of button is space for the phones? 1GB memory card. ...I have been due for an upgrade since September, but am still waiting for the release of the phone I really want, I rang up to see if there was any release date set for it but was told there was still no date set, but would I like to charge the T Mobile G1 instead?! I haven't really been interested in this phone because of having read a few reviews, and looking the spec etc up myself, it just wasn't something that appealed to me. I said I'd prefer to just wait but the sales guy said I could try it for 7 days and if it wasn't to my liking, I could send back and there'd be no difference in my account status, so after a bit of persuasion, I agreed.

In the UK, the device comes with Unlimited Internet Usage, 'Unlimited' Meaning 1GB a Month of Bandwith, and the ability to access all of the applications avaliable on the Application Market. The Application Market is an online section, accessable via the mobile phone, to download various tools, games and various other types of apps, that can be executed on the mobile. Most of the applications are free, however; there are some that charge a small one-time fee, usually less than £1.50 (US $1.99). The Hardware:
My initial impression of the G1 was mixed. It looks pretty business-like with the large touchscreen and rounded corners, but in both look and feel it has an air of Russian build quality about it. A far cry from the ultra sleek finish you get with the latest phones from Apple and Sumsung. The sliding screen does not have a positive location and tends to move slightly in the hand, not a reassuring feeling.
The single USB/Headphone/Charging port is hidden under a flimsy push fit cover. The battery cover is prised off in creaky manner and the secondary volume and camera shutter buttons are fiddly to operate. This is not just a phone it is an amazing piece of equipment the things to do on this phone are endless. Being the 1st android device the apps that can be downloaded are cool, different things like The Weather Channel keep upto date with the latest weather in your area. Football apps for the sport fans, check your teams progress over the season with the latest scores and see where your team sit in the league.
Another decent app is the barcode scanner see a product you like scan it and the phone will tell you where to buy it at the cheapest price. This series is one of the best science fiction series ever. The series follows S.G. 1 on their missions to other planets through the Stargate. The S.G. 1 team are made up of Jack O'Neill (2 L's), Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson and eventually Teal'c. Colonel Jack O'Neill is very anti establishment and has a lot of funny one liners and always seems to be the one getting shot, blown up, zapped, transported or whatever. Richard Dean Anderson plays him. Captain Carter is the science geek, if it is broke or needs fixing she can fix it. She uses words like exponentially a lot. Amanda Tapping plays her. Daniel Jackson is an archaeologist who originally told the world that the pyramids were landing pads for alien ships. Micheal Shanks plays him. Teal'c is a Jaffa and he starts off as...
Advantages: fast speed internet, memory card slot, Disadvantages: no bluetooth, bad camera, no video recorder
...Pros: Single integrated contacts/calendar/mail eliminates having yet ANOTHER place to have to sync. While it's thicker than the IPhone it's also narrower making it much easier to hold and manipulate one-handed.
Cons: The lack of a real headphone jack and bluetooth stereo and tethering are issues. The latter two will probably be dealt with at some point because they are software issues but the lack of a headphone jack was a real mistake.
Summary: While the IPhone seems to be designed to be manipulated two-handed (and is really too big and thin to use single handed... it tends to want to flip in your hand) the G1 is just the right size to comfortably hold in one hand.
Most of the application limitations that are listed in the review are things that are likely to be dealt with in the near-term via software updates and shouldn...
