Gabriel Blight

Advantages: good characters, brilliant storyline, good manual and music

The story is one of the best I have stumbled across in a long time...in fact, the last time I found such a good story for a game was in...hmmmm...let me seee...Gabriel Knight 1. The characters are far closer to the original, and far, far away(thankfully) from those evil people who portrayed our favourite...erm, 'shadow hunter' in the second game. Tim Curry is back, doing his voice(gabriel's) which is only a good thing (although his voice does veer off track from time to time)and the graphics and humour are relatively decent. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Excellent Peter Gabriel Concert From 2003

Advantages: Great performance, strong setlist, fascinating stage show, well produced.
Disadvantages: Can't think of any! Any personal preferences over song choices, I suppose.

...Filmed in Milan in 2003, this DVD shows a fantastic display from Peter Gabriel's 'Growing Up' tour. A very strong setlist and a great stage setup makes this a fantastic concert. The stage itself is circular, surrounded on all sides by the audience, which gives it quite an enclosed feel. It also rotates, which is used for many interesting purposes! Gabriel explains that with the 'Growing Up' tour, he wanted to have a 'vertical' theme for the stage, with things physically moving up and down. The stage setup seems to 'evolve' throughout the concert, constantly shifting, revealing new platforms and objects. All this is accompanied by a good light show, and filmed on a wide variety of cameras. ...In GK3 there are many superb characters that you meet along gabriel's adventure, including Moself who was in a previous GK game. Also his partner Grace comes along to France where Gabriel ends up. The game starts with a short movie of 2 Kidnappers taking Prince James of Albanys son. Where Gabriel follows them on a train and ends up near a small town called Rennes-Le-Chateau in France. The game has time segments which conclude after your charcter has done significant things. Gabriel is a private detactive from New Orleans in America. Once he has his wits about him the next morning he checks out the small town of Rennes-Le-Chateau, during this time you find out that there's also a tour group staying at gabriels hotel, which is Emilio Baza, John Wilkes, Mosely, Estelle Stiles, Lady Howard and Vittorio Buchelli. To Call This Pseudo-scientific Is An Insult To Pseudo-science

Advantages: pretty book pleasant to handle
Disadvantages: mercenary, trite, repetitive nonsense contravening truth, reason and ethics

..., the heart of the Secret and has been known to scientists and artists (there is a nice selection including Socrates, Pythagoras, Newton and Beethoven: anybody is strongly advised to look up the manner of demise of these famous people before judging them as being partial to a mystery of universal happiness). Of course, the law of attraction doesn't exist. There is absolutely *no evidence whatsoever* of external forces reacting in any ways to one's thoughts. Despite Byrne's reassurances, we can't make the planets move according to our wishes by thinking about it and neither we can avoid ageing. Couching the idea in pseudo-scientific terms like "emitting this frequency into the Universe" doesn't make it any more viable. You cannot emit a frequency as such (frequency is always of something) and thoughts do not, generally, get emitted anywhere...

Gabriel at his best

Advantages: Excellent stories, great characterisation, logical problems
Disadvantages: Very addictive

...I've never understood why these adventure games without the killing element aren't more popular. All the hits seem to invove killing dozens of people on route while games like this simply involve an application of logic and lateral thinking to succeed. The second Gabriel Knight story "The Beast Within" was my all tome favourite computer game and I'd been waiting impatiently for this to be released as launch was repeatedly postponed. I have to say it was worth the wait. The controls take a bit of getting used to but it's worth taking the trouble as this has all the elements needed for a good game - an excellent story line, interaction between several strong characters, logic rather than magic and obscure behaviour required to progress, a sense of humour and a scoring system to give an indication of how well you're doing.
