My Favourite Wildlife in The Galapagos
Advantages: Once in a lifetime photo opportunities of unique wildlife were the subjects actually stay still!
Disadvantages: Not a cheap trip
...My Favourite Wildlife on the Galapagos Islands.
I decided I would write about the wildlife on these Islands as the wildlife on these islands is like nothing else to be found in the world.
Blue Footed Booby.
We first encountered these birds at Punta Suarez on Espanola where there is quite a colony of them. The name Booby comes from the Spanish term ?bobo? which means stupid fellow. They certainly look real silly when they dance during courtship and mating which we saw them do. The birds are mainly white feathered with blue feet. The male bird stomps his lovely blue feet trying to impress the female and whilst dancing spreading his wings and squawking at her. The female copied him, also squawking back so it was like watching a mirror image. I guess it was her way of saying ?you?ve pulled mate!?
These birds are much bigger than...

Galapagos Islands
Advantages: close-up wildlife, fantastic photo opportunities
Disadvantages: expensive
...The Galapagos Islands are a truly amazing collection of volcanic islands that lie 600 miles due west of Ecuador in South America. The islands straddle the equator and play host to a unique and spectacular collection of wildlife. Most animals and birds remain largely unconcerned by the presence of man and the ever increasing numbers of tourists. This creates a brilliant opportunity to see wildlife up close in a location that certainly has a claim to being the world's greatest national park.
The islands wildlife include the celebrated giant tortoises that can live to well over a hundred years of age. The almost prehistoric land and marine iguana are abundant and share the beaches and rocks with sea lions, crabs and penguins. Sea birds include the famous blue-footed, red-footed and masked boobies as well as the "magnificent" frigatebirds...

Lonely Planets Ecuador & the Galápagos Islands
Advantages: Information
Disadvantages: Price
...Lonely Planets Guide to Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands has every basic need for information a traveler would have visiting this country, and even more so to backpackers.
This book gives you a good introduction into Ecuador's cultures, environments, History, wildlife, foods, drinks, health, transportation and accommodation and also has a good section on the Galapagos islands which it describes equally as well.
Its easy to read and can be quite humorous on times and is mainly written by three authors.
Personally i liked the book for its easy read maps which make it easy to distinguish place to place and for people with no clue where to go or what do to the itineraries section makes a good tour of Ecuador, explaining the best routes and there is one for mostly every one depending on hobbies such as mountain climbs to places less traveled...

The limits of wonder
Advantages: Naturally wonderful
Disadvantages: But not necessarily so wonderful to visit
...The Galápagos Islands are famously wonderful - in the literal sense of being full of wonders. Their location is unique and so, in consequence, is much of their wildlife. In the continuing throes of creation by a volcanic hotspot far out in the Pacific Ocean, they provide a natural laboratory for the study of how life first gains a foothold, and then adapts to survive, on new terrain. Moreover, since most of their area has been declared a national park by the Ecuadorian government, every effort is being made to conserve their extraordinary character.
Whether this makes them wonderful to visit is a different question, the answer depending on what you look for in your travels.
* Arrival *
The airport on Baltra Island at which most visitors arrive is not part of the national park, and is certainly not scenic. A former...

My Trip Of A LIfetime
Advantages: To see wildlife you will not see anywhere else on earth
Disadvantages: A long way to travel
...I had always wanted to visit the Galapagos Islands because of the diverse, unique wildlife so unafraid of man and to be found nowhere else on earth.
The Galapagos Islands are a volcanic archipelago of 13 islands just under the Equator about 600 miles west of Ecuador in South America. The oldest of the islands is said to be around 4 million years old and are supposed to be one of the most active volcanic areas in the world. The Islands associated with Charles Darwin who visited them in 1835 and came up with his ?theory of evolution? that is known about all over the world today. These islands are now a National Park and highly regulated.
We did a lot of research as to what wildlife we wanted to see and to what islands that were best for viewing the wildlife we wanted to see most . We took into consideration weather, sea temperature...

It's OK if you like animals!
Advantages: Fauna and flora, unspoilt, controlled tourism, sealife
Disadvantages: Never going to be a cheap holiday, long journey
...On the first morning of my Galapagos Island cruise, myself and nine other passengers excitedly boarded a dinghy to take us to shore for our first encounter. After landing and just as we were about to start following the trail, we passed a group from our sister boat who were about to leave following their slightly earlier visit. One of my group spotted a lady she sat next to on the flight over who was looking slightly hot and bothered and admittedly a bit po-faced. Nonetheless my fellow adventurer shouted over enthusiastically to enquire of the experience. The answer "It's OK?.if you like animals"!!
Fortunately most people considering a trip to Galapagos Islands will already well know that if animals, birds, sealife and nature itself are not of interest then it is probably not a holiday destination to contemplate for too long...

Cruise control
Advantages: Comfortable, well-equipped, well-run
Disadvantages: Large, impersonal, expensive
...Personally, I have very mixed feelings about cruises. In principle, they are a splendid way to travel, enabling you to take your floating hotel room round with you from place to place without the need to repack or worry about roadmaps or hang around at airports. To judge from the pics in the brochures, they also enable you, cocktail in hand, to gaze at luminescent sunsets reflected in mirror-calm seas. In practice, there is a danger of being buffeted about your cell-small cabin by raging tempests, press-ganged into staged social events with uncongenial fellow-cruisers, and trooped around the least appealing sights when you are at last allowed ashore.
I tend to err on the side of cautious pessimism and avoid, but when a cruise is the only way to see a destination, as it is with the Galápagos Islands, avoidance is not...

Life On The Ocean Wave
Advantages: A great way to get around the different islands
Disadvantages: None, unless you really didn't get on with your shipmates or suffer from sea sickness
...Estrella Del Mar II - Galapagos Motor Yacht.
This is the name of our boat that we stayed on whilst cruising around the Galapagos Islands.
This boat was built in 1990 and has been redesigned in the last couple of years increasing the size with the expansion of the saloon and restaurant and addition of a diving platform and the size of the boat has been increased to 75 ft.
Choosing A Boat
When choosing a boat there are many points to consider like, islands they visit, amount of passengers, facilities and price.
Different classes of Galapagos cruises
Luxury class
These are bigger boats with a lot of luxury for more then 50 passengers.
The boats usually have several bars, dining rooms, social rooms, a large solar deck and several decks with different kinds of cabins.
Some boats have swimming pools
First class...

You should always choose the lesser of two weevils
Advantages: realistic, tense, an entertaining sea aventure
Disadvantages: some cliched characters
...) plays Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey. He is the captain of the HMS Surprise, his mission; to track down the much larger French vessel, The Acheron and prevent the ocean war between the nations from spreading to the Pacific by all means necessary. After a sneak attack by the French in heavy fog, the ship, its 28 guns, 197 souls and its mission all seem to be in perril. With the ship damaged and multiple crew injured and some dead, Aubrey is still determined to fullfill his objective despite protest from the ships sergoen and best friend Stephen Maturin (an equally brilliant Bettany).
Aubrey makes repairs to his ship at sea after their escape through the fog and race across two oceans to catch up with the Acheron to capture her as a 'prize'. On the way, they stop off at exotic locations including the Galapagos Islands.

Llama Travel
Advantages: Excellent customer service, provide amazing trips
Disadvantages: None at all.
...Well What More Can I Say???
I used this little known tour operator Llama Travel when I recently went to the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador. This tour operator specialise only in Peru, Galapagos and Ecuador holidays. The reason I am writing a review on this tour operator is because they gave such fantastic service from the first initial contact till the end of our holiday in South America.
Brief History Of Llama Travel.
After living in Peru for several years and enjoying the wonderful wildlife, amazing scenery along with the culture and adventure Luca Newbold felt that everybody should have the chance to visit this country. When he returned to the UK he found that holidays to South America were far too expensive for the average person to holiday to. Along with a former director of Thompson Holidays Llama Travel was set up with the aim...
