The Gameboy's Talented Stepbrother

Advantages: Small, light, reasonably priced, good graphics
Disadvantages: short battery life on high light settings, misfitting GBA paks

...As a rushed console brought out to compete with the PSP while the new game boy was under development, the DS cannot fail to impress. The DS takes already successful games and transforms them into a whole new concept (i.e. the combat system in spiderman 3), or uses the unique stylus system to create games almost inconceivable on any other console (see puzzle quest). The range of games is impressive, with new additions coming ever more frequently. The graphics are stunning for such a small machine, and the battery life is excellent when on the lowest backlight setting, though somewhat questionable when using the brightest backlight. The rechargeable internal battery gives the DS clear advantage over the old gameboys, with much less faffing around with AAs. Gameboy Micro - A Forgotten Gem

Advantages: Looks fantastic, Great battery life, amazing screen, huge library of games, cheap
Disadvantages: Outdated, Non-Standardised Charger, Less than satisfactory speakers

...Though I was aware of the Gameboy Micro's release in 2005, it seems like myself, no one really took any notice at all when it launched, obscured by the release of 2004's original Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. The GBMicro really didn't offer anything new to the handheld gaming market at all, though there are a few factors which does help level the field of the major handhelds. Upon release, a brand new Gameboy Micro retailed for around £60-80, which for a seemingly out-of-date console was extortionate. Fortunately the price has come down a great deal in the last 2 years or so, seemingly over-stocking the Pink version as it is the cheapest available to which I purchase for a mere £13 as new from eBay. The box itself for the Micro is quite small and stylish. Inside are the usual refinements: - A4 'poster' advertising the Micro and GBA games...

Gameboy SP

Advantages: Lots of fun
Disadvantages: Can get a big obsessive

Advantages: Advanced graphics and great games.
Disadvantages: Larger then predecessors.

...Nintendo's latest member of the gameboy family (barring the GBA XP) is of course the Gameboy Advance. I started my journey along the gameboy family, starting with the Gameboy Pocket (still the smallest of the lot). It was a nice upgrade on the original, being far more compact and having a much clearer and more defined screen display. Then along came the Gameboy Color - BIG excitement. Having a much better 8 bit memory, colour graphics and better sound, it was the obvious purchase for all owners of the older model. The games improved too - I remember Conkers Pocket Tales and my favourite game of all time - Wario Land 2. Ok, so thats enough of a history lesson, now for the latest toy - the Gameboy Advance. Gameboy Advance SP, what does SP stand for?

Advantages: Large selection of games

Gameboy Advance - Vision Retreat

...What is it? ----------- The Gameboy Advance is the latest handheld games console from Nintendo. It is available in blue, white, clear blue and clear pink. I bought the clear blue console and it is apparantly the most popular. Unlike the Gameboy which was longer in height than width, the Gameboy Advance sits much more comfortably in the hands as it is much longer in width.
