Perfumed plant for the garden

Advantages: smell sweet look good
Disadvantages: none

...Sweet pea Lathyrus odoratus I am thinking of sowing some sweet peas in the garden soon. I can put the seeds in the soil in the end of September early October. I could wait till April to sow but if I sow now they will flower earlier. The plants tend to be stronger too. I will probably start mine off in a pot then I know where the seeds are but you could put them straight into the garden soil. I shall put the pots in a cold frame. They will be easier to protect against the slugs, snails mice and birds who love them to eat I shall plant them in the growing place in March April time. Sweet peas sweet smell pretty, climbing up fences or trellises. The cut flowers look good in flower decorations or in a summer bride's bouquet I might grow some along side some runner beans up a wigwam in the veggie patch. Sweet peas need...

KILLER PLANTS IN YOUR GARDEN

Advantages: Medicinal benefits from the oil
Disadvantages: The seed pods can kill

...Beware of the Castor oil Plant. Just one seed will kill a small child. It is best not to even keep the plant as a houseplant as the leaves are also slightly toxic. So if you have a castor oil plant in your house or garden and small children visit you are best to give it away. The plant is listed as poisonous with The Royal Horticultural Society Children are naturally curious so don't expect them not to taste different leaves even if they have been told not to. It is part of a young childs curiosity to explore new textures and tastes so nibbling at plants in the garden is quite normal. My own son ended up in hospital due to eating a few deadly nightshade berries which were growing in our hedge so this will explain why I really think any dangerous plants are removed before it is TOO LATE. If you do have this plant in your garden...

In the night garden ninky nonk train set

Advantages: strong, versatile, compact, nice bright colours, fun to play with
Disadvantages: none so far

...I decided to buy the in the night garden ninky nonk train set from Amazon as my young daughter is a big fan of in the night garden and whenever it comes on TV she gets really excited. So as my daughter already had some of the other characters from the show I wanted her to have the whole set and since buying it the train set the ninky nonk train set has become one of her favourite toys to play with on a daily basis. The train set can come apart and be attached on many different ways and my daughter enjoys looking at the nice bright colours and putting some of the other in the night garden characters onto the train set even though it keeps falling of now and again it keeps her busy and sometimes I hear her in fits of giggles. The train set is very cute and versatile and its great as children such as mine can have hours of fun with it...

Great for your garden

Advantages: good quality plants, reasonable prices, friendly helpful staff
Disadvantages: Hard to find if you don't know the area

...Plants galore is a small family run garden Centre on the outskirts of Harlow between Roydon and Nazeing. It has expanded greatly over the past two years and is a thriving local nursery. I always buy most of my plants from this nursery, not because it is near by but because of the quality of the plants, the friendly service and advice. Owned and run by a family of Italians it has something to offer all tastes and all gardens from shrubs and herbs to tubs, planters and water features. Prices are very reasonable and access to the nursery is good. A friendly atmosphere and good quality produce make this my first choice...

Review of Plants Galore Garden Centre, Harlow

Plants Galore

Advantages: Good value for money, plants of great quality
Disadvantages: A little hard to find if you don't know the area

...I could think of no better title than the name of this garden centre itself, Plants Galore, because that is just what you get at this fabulous family run gardener's paradise. Harlow, for those of you who don't know it has many garden centres and nurseries on the outskirts of town, we are really well served by them and quite spoilt for choice where horticultural activities are concerned. There is quite a strong Italian community within the town and Plants Galore is run by a very nice Italian family, and I don't mean 'family' as in the Mafia either. Youe will find a great many varieties of plants at this garden centre which is situated on the back road out of Harlow towards Nazeing village, just the other side of Roydon hamlet. The quality of the plants is excellent as is the choice. They have just about everything you could ask...

The Aluminium Plant

Advantages: Quite Easy To Grow
Disadvantages: Toxic Leaves

...identified my Plant for me) these Plants bear tiny little White or Green Flowers during late Spring or early Summer but so far mine never has. Maybe it isn't yet old enough, or perhaps I am neglecting it, although it does look otherwise rather healthy. I bought my Plant from a Garden Centre a couple of years when it was very tiny. It is now about six inches tall and about six inches wide. I recently saw these Plants for sale in the Garden Centre of my local B&Q. They were a little bit smaller than the one that I have but they were only £1.99 each. It is possible to grow new Aluminium Plants from an established Parent Plant. This can be done by two different methods. They can be grown from either Leaf cuttings or from cutting off the fleshy new growth that appear on the stem during the growing season. The cuttings do not take easily however...

For my climbing plants

Advantages: Gives good support
Disadvantages: none

...planting it?s a good idea to treat this with a preservative I am able to do so with some of my trellis. *Looks and success ~~~~~~ It looks pretty good (even if I dare say so myself) my plant has clambered up it and is in full bloom *Would I recommend ~~~~~~~~. Yes This is a good fairly easy way to support climbing plants up walls. *About Gardman ~~~~~~~ Gardman was founded in 1992 and has grown supplying many garden products to many on and off line garden centres. Their head office is at Spalding. As an individual customer I do not think you can buy their products direct they sell bulk to garden centres. Thank you for reading my review. I really do find this trellis good....

The Money Plant - A Perfect Mothers Day Gift!

Advantages: Incredibly Easy To Grow
Disadvantages: Quite Susceptible To Bugs

...With Mothers Day only a few days away I would have normally been wondering what to buy my Mother, since she seems to have everything, and no matter what I end up buying although I know that she will be grateful it will probably end up being relegated to the back of a cupboard. However this year I have planned early and this year I intend to give her a Jade Plant. I have had a Jade Plant of my own for about four years now and over this time it has grown quite large. The inspiration for the gift came from a passing comment that my Mother made when she visited me a couple of months ago. Initially I had decided to take a cutting from my own Plant and nurture it until it was large enough to give to her but then I realised that it would make an ideal gift for Mother Day for the woman who has everything. WHY THE JADE PLANT? I thought...

The versatile summer plant

Advantages: varying colours and sizes , deifferent species
Disadvantages: prone to greenfly

...I love to potter around in the garden . While not a novice by any means , I am no Alan Titmarsh , but for the benefit of the Ciao brigade , I thought I would complete a few reviews on my favourite garden plants.....so here goes with choice number 1 - The Dahlia - a bit late in the season , but hey blame ciao for the time it took to get the subject listed . Brief History : The Dahlia family originate from Mexico , and were first introduced into Europe ( actually the Botanical Gardens of Madrid , Spain ) towards the end of the eighteenth century , with three species introduced namely Dahia pinnata , Dahlia rosea and Dahlia coccinea . The name Dahlia was given to the plant in honour of a Swedish scientist turned enviromentalist by the name of Andreas Dahl , by botanist Abbe Caranille , whose authorative work " Icones et...
