A LIVING CATALOGUE

Advantages: Plenty of choice with beautiful gardens to wander through
Disadvantages: Little seating and somewhat more expensive than your average garden centre

...My very first visit to Bridgemere Garden World was during late summer, 2001. I?d recently moved to South Cheshire and having seen the ads in the local newspaper decided that I wanted to visit what sounded like one humungous garden centre! Even so, I can honestly say that I hadn?t anticipated anything quite as large as Bridgemere. Covering more than 6 acres, this is a gardener?s dream come true! Thousands upon thousands of plants are for sale and, best of all in my opinion, there are extensive gardens that act as a living catalogue! During spring the azaleas and rhododendrons are alive with colour, closely followed by poppies in all sorts of colours and other early summer perennials. The Spice Garden - No Garden, Plenty of Spice

His eyes lit up; "Can we have curry?" he asked excitedly. And so at around 6.30pm we left the office to go in search of a new curry restaurant that we'd not tried before. I had decided to visit on the recommendation of a friend who had recently spent a day there, and had spent quite a while telling me about it afterwards. A few facts about the Garden:- Highdown Gardens was created 90 years? ago by Sir Frederick and Lady Stern who set out to prove that you could grow a garden on chalk. ...I can vaguely remember a time when garden centres didn't really exist and they were called nurseries instead. Strangely enough they only sold plants and garden accessories. How things have changed though, now you can almost do your weekly shopping there (well maybe I exaggerate a little), but they really do sell almost everything and you can even get a bite to eat when you're there. Peter Barratts Garden Centre in Newcastle is no exception. WHERE IS IT ? It's located to the north of the city next to Gosforth Park / Newcastle Racecourse. It's only a 5 minute drive from the A1 if you take the Killingworth / Wideopen junction, or similarly 5 minutes from the Killingworth turn off of the A19.
