Garlic - Bad Smell of Success

I've been trying to economise, which mainly means that instead of buying Asda own brand, I'm trying, where I can to step down to the smartprice brand - the cheapest they offer- in order to make my money go further . This frozen baguette cost me 36p, which, considering Asda do a 2 pack of their own brand for 98p, would save me 26 pence if I purchased two - not a huge saving, but a saving none the less . Advantages: Easy and undemanding
Disadvantages: Don't overwater or underwater!

...Garlic is easily grown from individual cloves, just like onions or shallots. You don't even need a windowbox, never mind a garden, for it will grow in a pot on a sunny windowsill. However, beware using garlic from the supermarket shelf - most commercially grown garlic is treated with growth-regulating chemicals which will inhibit re-growth (although you may be lucky!). Best to buy garlic as sets from the garden centre or one of the many good seed catalogues. But if you really want to do your own thing with the supermarket stuff, buy organic garlic and try growing that. It should be untreated and theoretically pure as the driven snow....
