Does exactly what you need........
Review of Garmin Streetpilot C 510 by
nemo183
Advantages: Build quality, accuracy, support.
Disadvantages: Features
...Perhaps I should make it clear that when writing this review I'm comparing the Garmin to the TomTom300 and TomTom One, which are the 3 products I've used in depth.
All 3 of the above will perform, but on balance I'd probably go for the Garmin. From a style point of view, it may appear a little less sexy than the TomTom products, but where it scores is that it appears to have a slightly better map set and seems to work better in cities when you're surrounded by hi-rise buildings.
It may lack some of the blue-tooth facilities, but I'd happily trade these for a system where the basic functions are more sorted.
From a support point of view, although I've found the TomTom web site looks the business, my personal experience has been that it's not at all easy to use. Whilst voice support is readily available, it's not that good (lack...

Garmin Nuvi 300 - consider a TomTom first
Review of Garmin NÜVI 300 by
Mainflava
Advantages: Sleak, compact and aesthetically pleasing
Disadvantages: Innacurate on some roads, commands sometimes confusing
...Purchasing the Garmin Nuvi.....
I bought this unit for my girlfriend as a present sometime back in the hope that it would help her find the exit out of that proverbial paper bag. At the time of purchase, I had narrowed my choice down to two satellite navigation systems that both fell well within my price range; the Tomtom One and the Garmin Nuvi 300, both of which contained GB maps only. Based on my previous experience in using handheld GPS units for hiking and general map work and the fact that Garmin are well represented within the GPS world, I chose the Nuvi over the Tomtom. I was made further confident of my choice when I found the unit for approx £30 less than the TomTom One.
Initial impressions....
On receipt of the unit I was impressed with just how small and neat it was - I was, after all, comparing this unit...

Sent this back and ordered a Tom Tom!
Review of Garmin NÜVI 300 by
fayperry
Advantages: Great little Sat Nav unit, clear and fast
Disadvantages: Traffic unit doesn't work, software updater doesn't work, hard to get out of windscreen mount!
...After much research I bought a Garmin Nuvi 300T from Amazon 5 weeks ago, at £169.99.
I went for this one as I wanted the free traffic warning system, which is sent via a silent FM channel. So you can see delays and ask the Sat Nav to divert you.
It arrived in a neat box, along with a carrying case, USB cable, windscreen holder and car charger, as well as a quick start guide, the detailed guide being stored on the unit itself.
There is virtually no set up, you switch on and can enter a postcode, place of interest, restaurants, nearest petrol stations etc and get directed. Very easy, no experience needed at all.
A warning flashes up (and audio if you wish) when mobile or fixed speed camera are approaching. You get 30 days free updates then pay £39.99 a year for this.
I found it very difficult to get in and out of the windscreen holder...

Garmin Helps You Go the Distance
Review of Garmin Mobile XT Europe GPS software by
brunocrosier
Advantages: Small, Voice Directions, 3D graphics
Disadvantages: nothing
...Garmin are a relatively new company when it comes to GPS (Global Positioning Systems), yet with this product the seem set to face up to competitors TomTom and the like.
What is it?
In a nutshell, this is a microSD (memory card) that slots in to your Windows Mobile, Palm, or Symbian phone; which in turn gives you a GPS navigation system at your fingertips. You need never get lost again - wherever you are in Europe. It also provides coverage where you wouldn't have normal phone signal - which means you have directions when you need them the most. In fact, you can even check for traffic, weather & CCTV cameras.
The card itself is tiny, yet provides state-of-the-art 3D graphics on your handset. It makes TomToms sound pointless and means your car will never get broken in to for your sat-nav.
Perhaps...

I'd be lost without it!
Review of Garmin Etrex Legend by
crannoghome
Advantages: Easy to use, with good battery life and a useful base map
Disadvantages: Loses the signal in woods
...-up procedure. First use usually takes a few minutes while the GPS finds where in the World it is, but after that, it only takes a few seconds. While there is a comprehensive owner's manual in the box, there is also a very handy quick start guide to get you up and running quickly. It is printed on a waterproof paper so that it won't get damaged in the rain. The last 2 items in the box are a handy neck strap and a cable to connect the GPS to a PC computer (serial, not USB!) so that you can download additional maps and data, and also updated firmware from the Garmin website.
The screen is quite small and only has a 4 level grey scale, but that seems quite up to the task. A colour version is available for about £300, but that was way over my budget.
My first outing with the Legend found me constantly looking at the display as I was walking...

Sack the wife get an i3
Review of Garmin Streetpilot I 3 by
grovej
Advantages: Small and very good value
Disadvantages: Not for the sales rep
...I had wanted a GPS for a while just for the odd occasion on a weekend when visiting somewhere, but I was not willing to part with in excess of £300 for a TomTom. I could write for hours about the i3 but I have summarised my thoughts and the main features of the unit below.
--------------------------Size mounting and power--------------------------
One of the most endearing features of the unit is its size 3.00" W x 2.74" H x 2.15" D which is around the size of a cricket ball or thereabouts. For me this is ideal as you can fit it in a pocket rather than leaving it in the car when away from the car.
Mounting the unit is quite easy with a suckered mounting bracket supplied with the unit, this connects to the i3 using a ball which inserts in to a socket in the back of the unit. The ball joint is quite positive in its operation...

Garmin StreetPilot I3
Review of Garmin Streetpilot I 3 by
Scuzzy1965
Advantages: Simple to use, convenient, compact
Disadvantages: Takes time to lock on signals
...What an item. After buying my Garmin StreetPilot I3 I was up and running withing minutes. It is an amazing piece of kit.
The support from Garmin has been exceptional and software updates are sent to me when they are available.
The only downside that I can mention is that when not using back-up batteries it does take a little longer to 'lock on' to the satellite signals. However having said that, if that is all that there is to complain about then thats a small disadvantage.
I use my street pilot 7-8 hours a day, 5 days a week. It is unobtrusive, simple to use and easy to update. I also use it more for keeping an eye on my speed. When not actually navigating the display shows what speed you are doing, this can be in MPH or KPH.
All in all, well done garmin...

Garmin Nuvi 300T

Disadvantages: Tinny speakers when playing MP3's
...yourself if you want more than a little blue pyramid, these are a bit limited in veriety at the moment but I go online with it about once a fortnight and theres usually more options available.
it has a security feature which requires a pin number entry if you turn this feature on.You need to stand outside to do this as it requires you to lock in a security postion into it as well in case you forget your pin,and it needs to have clear satelite reception. But it's worth it when if stolen or lost it becomes useless to anyone else.
I also use it for geocaching (a type of treasure hunting) when I walk my dogs.the battery when charged lasts for up to 8hrs. Theres a link on the Garmin website to this if you want more info.
Great if you have active kids to entertain and geocaches are everywhere. Ive found 10 within half an hours walk from my house...
