Garmin Nuvi 200w Sat Nav System

Advantages: Easy to use, does what it's suppsed to do!
Disadvantages: Satellite pairing takes ages, no mains charger!

After extensive researching, price comparison and review reading, I came across the Garmin Nuvi 200w, and a sat nav system that seemed to impress greatly, so i decided to take the plunge and bought one. Much like many of the reviews I had read on the Nuvi 200w, my first impressions of it were very good. I bought the system off the Littlewoods website, as it had been reduced in a seasonal sale that they were having. This meant that the system was on offer for around £30 less than on any other reputable site that I could find it on. The product was well packaged, securely and compactly fitted to an inner cardboard shelf, that meant that the sat nav was unable to move or rattle within the box, therefor limiting the chance of damage during postal delivery to a minimum. Garmin Nuvi 250 Satnav (/GPS)

Advantages: Touch-screen, USB, Card-slot, Mapsource compatability
Disadvantages: Bad maps, immediate next turn direction, no variable POI proximity,

...(if you register your serial number you get 30 days to order a free map update - mine is on order so will redo this review if it fixes the problems). You can also download a Points-Of-Interest (POI) uploader so you can take advantage of all the POI databases out there for TomTom (although they have to be converted to CSV but this was a painless process using free online services). You can also link the device to Garmins mapsource software and this is where it gets interesting. The device can be set to car/bike or pedestrian mode and since Mapsource can upload waypoints you have a satnav which can also double as a GPS which makes it sort of usable for Geocaching etc. The only problem with this is when you use the zoom functions, it sometimes redraws the map without the POI's. The Garmin Gps 72 is a very dependable unit i use another brand on my boat while working and i have the gp 72 beside it and have found it to be a better unit allround, so i hear you all say, well this is why i mentioned my other unit, the other ones costs nearly £700 and is a fixed unit, with a smaller display. My gp 72 cost me £130 and is handheld and portable, also with the correct lead available from Garmin you can download and update data from your computer or laptop. No slip shod slap dash sloppy sat nav . . .

As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav. Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets. They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market. Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to think that is just a marketing trick to make you want the next model. The device comes already pre-loaded with maps covering the whole of Europe. It has the usual touch screen and is of course very slim. The database is already loaded...
