...(if you register your serial number you get 30 days to order a free map update - mine is on order so will redo this review if it fixes the problems). You can also download a Points-Of-Interest (POI) uploader so you can take advantage of all the POI databases out there for TomTom (although they have to be converted to CSV but this was a painless process using free online services). You can also link the device to Garmins mapsource software and this is where it gets interesting. The device can be set to car/bike or pedestrian mode and since Mapsource can upload waypoints you have a satnav which can also double as a GPS which makes it sort of usable for Geocaching etc. The only problem with this is when you use the zoom functions, it sometimes redraws the map without the POI's. The Garmin Gps 72 is a very dependable unit i use another brand on my boat while working and i have the gp 72 beside it and have found it to be a better unit allround, so i hear you all say, well this is why i mentioned my other unit, the other ones costs nearly £700 and is a fixed unit, with a smaller display. My gp 72 cost me £130 and is handheld and portable, also with the correct lead available from Garmin you can download and update data from your computer or laptop. Get There With A Garmin 760

Advantages: good battery life and good instruction manual
Disadvantages: sometimes slow software and have to pay for camera feature after 30 days

...was still more to be found out from reading the instruction manual. It is well laid out text that described the features and settings perfectly. It also has sections on problem solving all though I did not have any problems with mine so did not need to use this section. It is a really reliable device that I use almost daily now it does occasionally loose a bit of the road I rang and asked Garmin about this and they said they do have updates and that sometimes new roads are built before they get chance to update their systems. The device is quick to start but some of the software can take some time to load all though it does eventually work and runs very well and accurately. There is also an in built safety camera feature with the Garmin Nuvi 760 Sat Nav which warns you in plenty of time about fixed speed cameras and mobile speed van...

As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav. Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets. They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market. Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to think that is just a marketing trick to make you want the next model. The device comes already pre-loaded with maps covering the whole of Europe. It has the usual touch screen and is of course very slim. The database is already loaded...
