...I have been after a Sat Nav with built in European Maops for some time now as I am planning a road trip around Europe later in the year for my honeymoon. My first instinct was to go for a Tomtom as currently it is the most well known Sat Nav on the market and everyone you ask seems to own/recommend them. However I thought i'd try and save myself a few quid by taking a chance on one of the other manufacturers, and I stumbled upon the Garmin at a good price in Carphone warehouse one day. The first thing that struck me was at how easy the Garmin was to use - testament to this being an instruction book containing only a few pages which you don't expect when buying gadgets these days! Having owned and used the product considerably over the last 4 weeks I am very impressed, and to me is just as good as a tomtom and am sure it will get me... Read review

...I bought a Garmin 760 GPS receiver for my car I had not had a satellite navigation system before this but had been borrowing my brother in laws for when I went on business trips. These are a brilliant devise you just put the postcode, town and other information in as to where you want to go and it will voice guide you there and also show you your route on the screen. It also shows other useful information such as time, how long it is going to take to get there, what time you will arrive and how many miles it is to your destination. So you will never be late for a meeting again and can plan routes with this amazing device. The Garmin 760 that I have came from Halfords and cost £250 the sales people in Halfords got it out of the display cabinet and showed me how to use it and all of the features it has, they also offered to install... ...Agree with most of what the previous reviewer said but he left out a couple of very important drawbacks. 1. It really isn't very accurate when you take it out of town, navigating for the first time to our friends country house it told us we had arrived approx a quarter of a mile from the actual destination. (using postcode with house number entry) This failing was repeated many times travelling to other countryside destinations. 2. its database of hotels/bars/resaurants/interesting sites etc doesn't contain even half of the actual destinations that exist in the real world. I have been told this is not Garmins problem but is caused by the maps they are forced to use? In terms of a recommendation, given the opportunity i WOULDN'T have bought this item had i been aware of its ACTUAL performance.... Read review

Advantages: Clear mapping, robust, good range of options, highly portable

...The Garmin NUVI 660T is a very robust and solid unit. Very clear mapping, good options for configuration, and generally, it gets you where you want to be (which is good!). At times it tells you to turn when actually it's just a bend in the road, but its better than ending up in the hedge! You can also walk with this one as the charge holds really well compared to other rival satnavs. The upsides? Robust, clear mapping, clear voices (though they can all be annoying, particularly when you go the wrong way!), good range of options and highly portable. Handy if you can't find your way to the shops! Downsides? Sometimes tells you to turn when there's no junction and sometimes sends you the wrong way down a one way street (yes same as the rest!). Overall though, with the most up to date mapping, this is an excellent sat nav!... Read review

...Garmin Nuvi 310 is an excellent piece of kit for people looking for affordable compact navigator with lot of features. Features Navigation I have bought UK maps preloaded, and the navigation menu provides options to go to an address or search from custom POI list, like Food, Fuel, Lodging, Intersections, Attractions, Shopping, Parking, Entertainment, Recreation etc. It also gives options to search a custom POI nearest to a location/address which I find very usefull, if you want to check facilities available at an address where you are going. Bluetooth Integration Using bluetooth you can take calls on Garmin and it has got good speaker + built in microphone, also a dial pad to dial directly from Garmin touch screen. ...Garmin nuvi 670 GPS has got widescreen 4.3", supports Bluetooth and even mp3 player is not missing. The display is really big with resolution 480x272 16:9 is very comfortable to look at the map. The device is equipped with Bluetoot, so your connection to mobile phone will work as a handsfree with microphone included and repro. Extremely sensitive reciever allows you to recieve GPS signal in cars with front window heating, where you normally have to use extern reciever. Transmitter it works very well with your car audio. Navigation will offer you for example freq. 91.5FM and you can use it on your radio to hear navigation, MP3 at once you can add mobile phone if you connect it via Bluetooth. ...Purchasing the Garmin Nuvi..... I bought this unit for my girlfriend as a present sometime back in the hope that it would help her find the exit out of that proverbial paper bag. At the time of purchase, I had narrowed my choice down to two satellite navigation systems that both fell well within my price range; the Tomtom One and the Garmin Nuvi 300, both of which contained GB maps only. Based on my previous experience in using handheld GPS units for hiking and general map work and the fact that Garmin are well represented within the GPS world, I chose the Nuvi over the Tomtom. I was made further confident of my choice when I found the unit for approx £30 less than the TomTom One. Initial impressions.... ...Edit: My review here is based on the Nuvi-250 (non-widescreen version). I bought one of these recently as my old ipaq-based TomTom is getting more outdated each day and there doesn't seem to be a reasonably-priced way to update it. I have to say I was expecting better. The manual is small because there aren't as many features as you get with TomTom. For example TomTom allows you to set the distance between your POI and it's alert sounding. This Garmin seems to sound the alert at it's own preset distance warning which you can't change from the menu system. It also seems to take a while to find the satellites. We went to our local park on saturday which is about a mile from home and we were practically on the car-park before it locked on. The worst part though was how innacurate the maps seem to be.
