Garmin Nuvi 200w Sat Nav System

Advantages: Easy to use, does what it's suppsed to do!
Disadvantages: Satellite pairing takes ages, no mains charger!

After extensive researching, price comparison and review reading, I came across the Garmin Nuvi 200w, and a sat nav system that seemed to impress greatly, so i decided to take the plunge and bought one. Much like many of the reviews I had read on the Nuvi 200w, my first impressions of it were very good. I bought the system off the Littlewoods website, as it had been reduced in a seasonal sale that they were having. This meant that the system was on offer for around £30 less than on any other reputable site that I could find it on. The product was well packaged, securely and compactly fitted to an inner cardboard shelf, that meant that the sat nav was unable to move or rattle within the box, therefor limiting the chance of damage during postal delivery to a minimum. Garmin NÜVI 200 - cheap but cheerful SatNav

Advantages: price, maps, points of interest, speed camera warnings
Disadvantages: extra maps/updates pricy

...Just prior to going on holiday this year we decided to treat ourselves to a SatNav. Most of the bells & whistles the more pricy units have wasn't of interest to us, we just wanted something basic. My wife had used a TomTom in someone else's car so we wandered down to Halfords with something similar in mind. Having spent half an hour perusing about 20 different units none of which stood out, we grabbed a passing salesbod and asked for help. He immedietly pointed to the Garmin and rattled off a dozen reasons why, most of which blurred into a realisation that the stickers that showed the features on each unit were lying i.e. he said it had post code navigation, the stickers said not. Get Safely from A to B with Garmin nuvi 1340

Advantages: Not as annoying as I thought
Disadvantages: Pricey

Sat nav for a bicycle?

Advantages: Effective, efficient and useful - reasonably priced.
Disadvantages: No facility for an easy battery change of replacement.

The first few such stories hitting the media in the early days of this technology were quite funny. Now they dither between the unbelievable and the stupid ! No slip shod slap dash sloppy sat nav . . .

Advantages: So simple to use.
Disadvantages: Easy target for thieves.

...... Garmin was one of the GPS devices I looked at when deciding which sat nav to go for. I actually went for the TomTom. As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav. Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets. They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market. Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to think that is just a marketing trick to make you want the next model. The device comes already pre-loaded with maps covering the whole of Europe. It has the usual touch screen and is of course very slim. The database is already loaded...

...Satanic Navigation systems have become a common everyday item for many people who drive on a regular basis, but as with anything else technological there are hundreds on the market and a bewildering array of options to choose from. Luckily for me I bypassed this confusion by winning a satnav in a raffle at work last Christmas, so after 12 months of near constant use it was time to review the unit. Get There With A Garmin 760

Advantages: good battery life and good instruction manual
Disadvantages: sometimes slow software and have to pay for camera feature after 30 days

...I bought a Garmin 760 GPS receiver for my car I had not had a satellite navigation system before this but had been borrowing my brother in laws for when I went on business trips. These are a brilliant devise you just put the postcode, town and other information in as to where you want to go and it will voice guide you there and also show you your route on the screen. It also shows other useful information such as time, how long it is going to take to get there, what time you will arrive and how many miles it is to your destination. So you will never be late for a meeting again and can plan routes with this amazing device. The Garmin 760 that I have came from Halfords and cost £250 the sales people in Halfords got it out of the display cabinet and showed me how to use it and all of the features it has, they also offered to install it...

...****Overall**** The Garmin Edge 705 is more than a bike computer. It is a full satellite navigation system for a bicycle. It does not have the ability to "tell" you where to go by voice but it does show you what turnings to take on a small map. At first glance the Edge 705 looks really stylish and impressive. It is larger than the previous models, the 205 and 305, but this is to be expected since it has a large 44mm x 35mm colour screen. The backlit display is clear and bright and can clearly be seen in any conditions be it dull and over cast, bright sunshine or anything in between. Garmin Zumo 550

Advantages: Good looking,top of the range,it's designed for bikers, loads of extras
Disadvantages: Sometimes bit slow,it is waterproof but not when used for long time in rain

...I had my Garmin Zumo 550 for nearly two years. I bought it because it was top of the range motorcycle sat nav. What i liked about it: whole Europe covered, shock and waterproof, quick and easy to use(don't have to take gloves off), loads of extras( fuel gauge,avg speed,compass, useful information like garages, petrol stations, hotels etc,mp3 player, Bluetooth, not bad memory capacity,speed cameras alerts. What i disliked about it : after 1 hour motorway ride in rain it stopped working,but surprisingly it was mounting bracket not sat nav itself which got wet.Sometimes bit slow I used to miss turn awaiting for navigation to recalculate route.Little bit tricky to supply power from motorbike - no instructions for DIY. After all i think it's good navigator but a little bit pricey....

...used my garmin nuvi now for 1 year and a half, being an hgv driver was not sure with sat nav and this was my second unit and heard lots of bad storys of drivers getting stuck! but this machine is bang on with getting you to your destionation, either that be in a city or out in the country side, most of the time i checked between maps and the sat nav unit and 99% it was always taken you a safe route. screen is good and clear.. voice is nice and loud with the 12v power source, but is really quiet when the machine is using its own battery. used mine in europe with no problems but had to buy new map to cover this, was not a problem, just got new disc off garmins web site and installed it into machine. nuvi came with a free trail of speed cam's, and work very well and pick nearly all i went past up, but when trail was over was...
