Garmin Nuvi 200w Sat Nav System
Advantages: Easy to use, does what it's suppsed to do!
Disadvantages: Satellite pairing takes ages, no mains charger!
...of the past, much like tv's. After extensive researching, price comparison and review reading, I came across the Garmin Nuvi 200w, and a sat nav system that seemed to impress greatly, so i decided to take the plunge and bought one.
Much like many of the reviews I had read on the Nuvi 200w, my first impressions of it were very good. I bought the system off the Littlewoods website, as it had been reduced in a seasonal sale that they were having. This meant that the system was on offer for around £30 less than on any other reputable site that I could find it on. The product was well packaged, securely and compactly fitted to an inner cardboard shelf, that meant that the sat nav was unable to move or rattle within the box, therefor limiting the chance of damage during postal delivery to a minimum. Included in the box was the Nuvi 200w sat nav system...

garmin nuvi 200
Advantages: easy to use
Disadvantages: lacks traffic and map updates
...used my garmin nuvi now for 1 year and a half, being an hgv driver was not sure with sat nav and this was my second unit and heard lots of bad storys of drivers getting stuck!
but this machine is bang on with getting you to your destionation, either that be in a city or out in the country side, most of the time i checked between maps and the sat nav unit and 99% it was always taken you a safe route.
screen is good and clear.. voice is nice and loud with the 12v power source, but is really quiet when the machine is using its own battery.
used mine in europe with no problems but had to buy new map to cover this, was not a problem, just got new disc off garmins web site and installed it into machine.
nuvi came with a free trail of speed cam's, and work very well and pick nearly all i went past up, but when trail was over was...

Garmin NÜVI 200 - cheap but cheerful SatNav
Advantages: price, maps, points of interest, speed camera warnings
Disadvantages: extra maps/updates pricy
...Just prior to going on holiday this year we decided to treat ourselves to a SatNav. Most of the bells & whistles the more pricy units have wasn't of interest to us, we just wanted something basic. My wife had used a TomTom in someone else's car so we wandered down to Halfords with something similar in mind.
Having spent half an hour perusing about 20 different units none of which stood out, we grabbed a passing salesbod and asked for help. He immedietly pointed to the Garmin and rattled off a dozen reasons why, most of which blurred into a realisation that the stickers that showed the features on each unit were lying i.e. he said it had post code navigation, the stickers said not. Anyway, time was moving on so we grabbed one and paid the £165 it cost at the time.
Having got home, the first thing I did was go online and check other...

Get Safely from A to B with Garmin nuvi 1340
Advantages: Not as annoying as I thought
Disadvantages: Pricey
...Why I Bought It
I finally gave in a traded my AA route finder notes (which always got me from A to B) for a Garmin nuvi 1340.
I have to admit that these things annoy me so much, shouting directions at you every 5 seconds, but I thought I ought to at least try to get with the 21st century, plus everyone I know as one, so they can?t be that bad can they?
I managed to pick mine up for £139 from Pixmania, which was a bargain, as I?d seen one in my local Halford store whilst shopping for oil again! (but that?s another story) for £179! Just proving its worth shopping around.
Being a girlie the first thing that attracted me to this was its slender build (I know I know!). Its only 15mm thick and therefore isn?t too bulky to pop into the handbag when I?ve arrived at my destination and its quite light too ? double bonus.
The 1340 model...

Garmin Nuvi 610T, perfect every time...
Advantages: Quick, clear, easy to use, multi functions, bluetooth, connects with mobile for hands free
Disadvantages: None
...The Garmin Nuvi 610T is a very good sat nav unit. In the box you receive the unit itself, windscreen mount, charger leads, cd rom, usb pc connecting cable, instruction manual, a dashboard mount and a tmc aerial.
On receiving the unit it was incredibly easy to set up. In fact straight from the box its ready to go once you've attached it to the windscreen, it simply takes a few moments to locate satellites and establish where it is. The windscreen mounting bracket is of good quality, the plastic is robust and in 6 months the suction cup hasn't worked loose at all; its still exactly where I placed it initially. You get a decent length of lead on the charging cable that fits into any standard 12V cigarette lighter socket. The tmc lead is also a decent enough length and comes with two suction cups to keep it neatly attached to...

Garmin Nuvi 250 Satnav (/GPS)
Advantages: Touch-screen, USB, Card-slot, Mapsource compatability
Disadvantages: Bad maps, immediate next turn direction, no variable POI proximity,
...Edit: My review here is based on the Nuvi-250 (non-widescreen version).
I bought one of these recently as my old ipaq-based TomTom is getting more outdated each day and there doesn't seem to be a reasonably-priced way to update it. I have to say I was expecting better.
The manual is small because there aren't as many features as you get with TomTom. For example TomTom allows you to set the distance between your POI and it's alert sounding. This Garmin seems to sound the alert at it's own preset distance warning which you can't change from the menu system.
It also seems to take a while to find the satellites. We went to our local park on saturday which is about a mile from home and we were practically on the car-park before it locked on. The worst part though was how innacurate the maps seem to be. On one trip, It didn't have...

Garmin Gremlin is back!
Advantages: gets me where i want to be
Disadvantages: a little quiet
...Satanic Navigation systems have become a common everyday item for many people who drive on a regular basis, but as with anything else technological there are hundreds on the market and a bewildering array of options to choose from.
Luckily for me I bypassed this confusion by winning a satnav in a raffle at work last Christmas, so after 12 months of near constant use it was time to review the unit.
I have the Garmin Nuvi 250, Garmin have a well established reputation for making good quality GPS receivers and many of my military and outdoor activity loving friends have them for use when hiking, boating, or even just a short ramble throug unfamiliar territory (though one friend has his soley to record the locations of his favourite pubs). So I had high hopes that my little unit would be a good product to use.
In terms of its looks...

Garmin Nuvi 300T
Advantages: Ease of use,Slim,Accurate
Disadvantages: Tinny speakers when playing MP3's
...suit yourself if you want more than a little blue pyramid, these are a bit limited in veriety at the moment but I go online with it about once a fortnight and theres usually more options available.
it has a security feature which requires a pin number entry if you turn this feature on.You need to stand outside to do this as it requires you to lock in a security postion into it as well in case you forget your pin,and it needs to have clear satelite reception. But it's worth it when if stolen or lost it becomes useless to anyone else.
I also use it for geocaching (a type of treasure hunting) when I walk my dogs.the battery when charged lasts for up to 8hrs. Theres a link on the Garmin website to this if you want more info.
Great if you have active kids to entertain and geocaches are everywhere. Ive found 10 within half an hours walk...

Easy to use, easy to see, easy to love GPS
Advantages: Great price, effortless to use
Disadvantages: none, really
...After doing a lot of online research, I decided to get the Garmin nuvi 200W. The "W" stands for widescreen. It has the exact features ass the Nuvi 200, but a larger screen. We were in Disneyworld, (you can buy additional countries files, to add to your system), and wanted to go to a Build-a-bear store. Not only did it find the store, but give us wonderful directions, that saved us miles over they way we thought we wanted to go. The "voice" is easy to understand. The touch screen is very responsive and easy to use. I am not a "techie", and worried I would have trouble learning how to use this. It is so easy, a child could use it. The graphics are bright. You can buy a cable on Ebay very inexpensively, that allows you to download graphics for free, and also programs you can buy. I don't know why the cable isn't included, but it...
