I spent a considerable amount of that time with the belief that I should buy a TomTom as they have been on the market for what appears to be the longest, and are a recognised brand. ...Purchasing the Garmin Nuvi..... I bought this unit for my girlfriend as a present sometime back in the hope that it would help her find the exit out of that proverbial paper bag. At the time of purchase, I had narrowed my choice down to two satellite navigation systems that both fell well within my price range; the Tomtom One and the Garmin Nuvi 300, both of which contained GB maps only. Based on my previous experience in using handheld GPS units for hiking and general map work and the fact that Garmin are well represented within the GPS world, I chose the Nuvi over the Tomtom. ...... Garmin was one of the GPS devices I looked at when deciding which sat nav to go for. I actually went for the TomTom. As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav. Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets. They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market. Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to think that is just a marketing trick to make you want the next model. The device comes already pre-loaded with maps covering the whole of Europe. It has the usual touch screen and is of course very slim. The database is already loaded with Points... Read review

...The Garmin Nuvi 360 is a great GPS navigation system that has some useful extra facilities but some niggles which I will explain more about. As soon as you see it you realise it is only 1/2 inch deep, much thinner than most competitors. Navigation. The menu system is very easy to use. When you turn the device on it takes around 20 seconds to load maps etc. It comes with a complete set of maps for Europe.. When you select "Where to" it gives you various options for selecting your address. These are; 1) "Address" which allows you to enter either a street address or a full postcode and house number. 2)"My locations" which is either Home, recent selections or favourites you have stored before. 3) "Food" - selection of eating places by type of food. 4) "Lodging" selection of places to stay, in order of distance from either your current... ...The Garmin NUVI 660T is a very robust and solid unit. Very clear mapping, good options for configuration, and generally, it gets you where you want to be (which is good!). At times it tells you to turn when actually it's just a bend in the road, but its better than ending up in the hedge! You can also walk with this one as the charge holds really well compared to other rival satnavs. The upsides? Robust, clear mapping, clear voices (though they can all be annoying, particularly when you go the wrong way!), good range of options and highly portable. Handy if you can't find your way to the shops! Downsides? Sometimes tells you to turn when there's no junction and sometimes sends you the wrong way down a one way street (yes same as the rest!). Overall though, with the most up to date mapping, this is an excellent sat nav!... Read review

...Garmin Nuvi 310 is an excellent piece of kit for people looking for affordable compact navigator with lot of features. Features Navigation I have bought UK maps preloaded, and the navigation menu provides options to go to an address or search from custom POI list, like Food, Fuel, Lodging, Intersections, Attractions, Shopping, Parking, Entertainment, Recreation etc. It also gives options to search a custom POI nearest to a location/address which I find very usefull, if you want to check facilities available at an address where you are going. Bluetooth Integration Using bluetooth you can take calls on Garmin and it has got good speaker + built in microphone, also a dial pad to dial directly from Garmin touch screen. After extensive researching, price comparison and review reading, I came across the Garmin Nuvi 200w, and a sat nav system that seemed to impress greatly, so i decided to take the plunge and bought one. Much like many of the reviews I had read on the Nuvi 200w, my first impressions of it were very good. I bought the system off the Littlewoods website, as it had been reduced in a seasonal sale that they were having. This meant that the system was on offer for around £30 less than on any other reputable site that I could find it on. The product was well packaged, securely and compactly fitted to an inner cardboard shelf, that meant that the sat nav was unable to move or rattle within the box, therefor limiting the chance of damage during postal delivery to a minimum. ...4 years ago, I bought a sat-nav system that was based on a iPAQ. It had wires all over the place and kept trying to take me down roads that didn't exist. I got fed up with it pretty quickly and ended up reverting to the trusty road atlas after yet another journey of mis-direction. But that was 4 years ago and technology has moved on a long way since then. Enter the Garmin Nuvi 670, purchased from Amazon for the rather pricey sum of £380. This device has, so far at least, convinced me that Sat-Nav is finally a viable prospect I bought this particular model for several reasons: - It's relatively compact with a generous screen size. - it's got a built in battery that's good for nearly 7 hours. - it includes maps of Europe and America. - it's a brand I trust. but most importantly: - it takes live traffic information... The device is equipped with Bluetoot, so your connection to mobile phone will work as a handsfree with microphone included and repro. Extremely sensitive reciever allows you to recieve GPS signal in cars with front window heating, where you normally have to use extern reciever. Transmitter it works very well with your car audio.
