Garmin Nuvi 200w Sat Nav System

Advantages: Easy to use, does what it's suppsed to do!
Disadvantages: Satellite pairing takes ages, no mains charger!

After extensive researching, price comparison and review reading, I came across the Garmin Nuvi 200w, and a sat nav system that seemed to impress greatly, so i decided to take the plunge and bought one. Much like many of the reviews I had read on the Nuvi 200w, my first impressions of it were very good. I bought the system off the Littlewoods website, as it had been reduced in a seasonal sale that they were having. This meant that the system was on offer for around £30 less than on any other reputable site that I could find it on. The product was well packaged, securely and compactly fitted to an inner cardboard shelf, that meant that the sat nav was unable to move or rattle within the box, therefor limiting the chance of damage during postal delivery to a minimum. Garmin Nuvi 250 Satnav (/GPS)

Advantages: Touch-screen, USB, Card-slot, Mapsource compatability
Disadvantages: Bad maps, immediate next turn direction, no variable POI proximity,

...(if you register your serial number you get 30 days to order a free map update - mine is on order so will redo this review if it fixes the problems). You can also download a Points-Of-Interest (POI) uploader so you can take advantage of all the POI databases out there for TomTom (although they have to be converted to CSV but this was a painless process using free online services). You can also link the device to Garmins mapsource software and this is where it gets interesting. The device can be set to car/bike or pedestrian mode and since Mapsource can upload waypoints you have a satnav which can also double as a GPS which makes it sort of usable for Geocaching etc. The only problem with this is when you use the zoom functions, it sometimes redraws the map without the POI's. ...The Garmin Nuvi 610T is a very good sat nav unit. In the box you receive the unit itself, windscreen mount, charger leads, cd rom, usb pc connecting cable, instruction manual, a dashboard mount and a tmc aerial. On receiving the unit it was incredibly easy to set up. In fact straight from the box its ready to go once you've attached it to the windscreen, it simply takes a few moments to locate satellites and establish where it is. The windscreen mounting bracket is of good quality, the plastic is robust and in 6 months the suction cup hasn't worked loose at all; its still exactly where I placed it initially. You get a decent length of lead on the charging cable that fits into any standard 12V cigarette lighter socket. The tmc lead is also a decent enough length and comes with two suction cups to keep it neatly attached to...

...used my garmin nuvi now for 1 year and a half, being an hgv driver was not sure with sat nav and this was my second unit and heard lots of bad storys of drivers getting stuck! but this machine is bang on with getting you to your destionation, either that be in a city or out in the country side, most of the time i checked between maps and the sat nav unit and 99% it was always taken you a safe route. screen is good and clear.. voice is nice and loud with the 12v power source, but is really quiet when the machine is using its own battery. used mine in europe with no problems but had to buy new map to cover this, was not a problem, just got new disc off garmins web site and installed it into machine. nuvi came with a free trail of speed cam's, and work very well and pick nearly all i went past up, but when trail was over was...

As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav. Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets. They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market. Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to think that is just a marketing trick to make you want the next model. The device comes already pre-loaded with maps covering the whole of Europe. It has the usual touch screen and is of course very slim. The database is already loaded...

I reserved it online and picked it up from Comets the following day(they offered an extra discount for doing this) and it told me they had it in stock and it was mine if I turned up and payed for it within 3 day's. I collected it the next day and in about five minutes I had it up and running and telling me the way home. It is so easy to use,updates are download from the website through a simple peace of software (you just need to download onto your P.C. from the website) and the usb cable that comes with it. It is also supplied with all you need to mount on you windscreen or dashboard.and it comes with a leather carry case and a little cleaning cloth for the screen.
