...I was really looking forward to reading this book to learn about the real man and not just what we were told from the tabloids, I can easily say that I was not disappointed with this book. Gary starts the booki n 2000 and tells about how his life is and what he is up to. He then starts to take us back on a journey from his childhood. He tells us all about his apprenticeship in the working mens clubs in the North and how his family would save up to buy him the latest model of keyboard. He tells how he gets his insperation for song writting which he started at such an early age and how hard it was trying to get his big break. He tells of when he first met Nigel Martin-Smith who was a modelling agent and how he had an idea of starting a boy band. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Zen, and the art of Gary NuNuman

Advantages: Some stunning tracks, it's an incredible effort considering where he came from
Disadvantages: A few dull moments, but I still can't wait for the next one

...OK, you should have all finished doing double takes now. Yes, this is a Gary Numan album and yes it is in the hard rock category (Or at least it should be!!!). It’s all a bit convoluted but basically Gary Numan has transformed himself from the strange little man of electro pop he used to be into a Trent Reznor like electro rock behemoth. And yet who was it who inspired Trent Reznor (Amongst others) to pick up a synth and create what we know now as Nine Inch Nails? Gary Numan of course. So the mentor having duly mentored the pupil has now changed into the image of the former pupil. Very deep, very Zen – very verging on the Karate Kid. The music that Gary NuNuman has created owes a very big debt to Nine Inch Nails, it’s definitely been created from a similar mind set as it mixes dark electronic synth work with fuzzed...

Gary Moore plays Peter Green

Advantages: Peter Greens skill is rediscovered in the form of Gary Moore
Disadvantages: None

...I saw Peter Green & Fleetwood Mac in the late sixties and Gary Moore is the first guitarist that I have heard play his songs, where you could shut your eyes, and be transported back to that concert. This is my experience of Peter Green and also Gary Moore whom I saw play "I loved another woman" at the MEN Manchester. If you love good music albeit the Blues and want to hear it played by actual musicians then "Blues for Greeny" is for you. To honour one of the guitarists he admires Gary Moore has stepped away from his own high class musicianship and produces an album of Peter Green songs six of which can be found on the albums "Fleetwood Mac" and "Mr Wonderful" (see my reviews on these albums, (Early and More Early English Blues) and also puts in some lesser known songs as well as "I need your love so Bad...

Gary Barlow - 'My Take'

Advantages: A must for all Gary and Take That fans - even for Robbie fans, too!
Disadvantages: None

...I cannot add much to the other reviews. This is an excellent read, and a 'must' for all Gary and Take That fans. Here we see the truly sensitive side of a man who was treated mercilessly by the tabloid press, especially when Robbie had his 'big break' with 'Angels' and other massive hits. This is a book written from the heart, by an intelligent, caring and loveable family man, who also happens to be one of the greatest singer/songwriters around. The chapter on the 7/7 Underground bombings of 2005, really brings it home to the reader about how bad the current times are. There is no doubt that Gary's life was greatly influenced by this. It's great that the acrimony between Gary and Robbie seems to have evaporated. I can well recommend this, as a great read. Looking forward to the new album, later this year. (Tony in...

My Take - Gary Barlow

Advantages: Nicely written, honest and revealing
Disadvantages: As you'd expect it won't win a literacy prize

...I only got this book because I quickly needed to find something to take advantage of WHsmiths 2 or 1 offer. I'm not really a Take That fan although I do like some of their songs and I like Gary Barlow as a songwriter. The book is actually a really good read. Obviously it won't win any prizes for literacy but it's got some really interesting stories. The book takes from Gary's early beginnings, from when he got his first musical equipment and started to get gigs in working mens clubs, through to the Take That days and the solo career and if you buy the updated version the reunion. Probably the most interesting parts concern his relationships with key people such as the Take That manager Nigel Martin-Smith and Robbie Williams. ...Victims of the Future is one of Gary Moore’s better albums. Gary’s style of playing the blues, combined with his love for ballads and heavy rocks make this album a more rounded album than Corridors of Power. His guitar playing is excellent. Some of the better songs are:- Victims Of The Future This song is essentially a combination of rock/ blues and ballad. It tells the story of hour our hopes are disappearing as our leaders leave us to our own ends providing no guidance. The melody is somehow haunting yet pleasant. The lyrics are thought provoking.
