What can I say about a gas hob?

Advantages: Lights first time. Powerful wok burner, easy to clean
Disadvantages: wok burner doesn't fit my wok!

...device. This means that should the flame be blown out, gas wil continue to fill the room. I have tried to blow it out but could only manage to extinguish the smallest burner whilst it was set to its lowest setting so it doesn't appear to be a problem. The nicest thing is that it lights first time and stays lit. The pan supports are also enamelled and are in two sections which means it's easier to clean (fits in the sink or dishwasher...if you're lucky enough to have one!)whereas the old was the full size of the hob top and rather large meaning it rarely got cleaned! There are four burners, one small simmering burner, two medium burners and a huge triple wok burner which features an interesting whistle. I'm not convinced it's supposed to do this but it doesn't seem to cause a problem, when turned down to the low setting it emits...

Happy Hobs!!

Advantages: Works very well, fairly inexpensive, easy to use
Disadvantages: Bit runny

...A couple of summer's ago, my husband gutted our old kitchen and put me in a nice new one with all the mod cons, including my new halogen hob! He told me I needed to be careful when cleaning it and the maufacturer's instruction for cleaning recommended Hob Brite, by Homecare. I tootled off to Tesco and found it very easily, in with the rest of the household cleaning products. It cost at the time about £1.25 but it's since gone up in price a little and the last bottle I bought cost me £1.39 from Sainsbury's - the bottle contains 300ml, and to my knowledge does not come in any different sizes. The first time I used my new hob I'd cooked us all a spaghetti bolognese and there were a few splashes of sauce sprinkled over the hob. I left the hob to cool down before I attempted to clean it, as directed on the bottle's instructions...

Sparkly Hobs

Advantages: good results, good price

...Recently I just bought a ceramic hob cooker because previously I never really worried too much about spillages around the cooker but now with the shiny black surface dirt starts to show up more easily. I love my cooker and being a huge pasta lover and loving my sauces etc this means that there are going to be spillages whether it's tomato sauce stains, oil after frying these all make a mess if not cleaned quick so this is why I looked into products for cleaning the hob and I found Hob Brite. I have never really heard of many big brands doing cleaning products for the hob. I know there are these cleaning wipe things but to me these aren't reliable although I haven't heard of Homecare who make Hob Brite. I haven't heard of them but I certainly wouldn't forget to recommend if I ever come to the subject of discussing hobs...

A good job for the hob

Advantages: Economical to use, leaves hob looking like new

The best little hob I have seen

Advantages: Fast, efficient and clean - a great way to cook
Disadvantages: You must use the right pans on it

  British Gas make a complete hash.

Advantages: None that I can think of...oh..they have the word "British" in their name
Disadvantages: Customer Service (lack of), Prices, Attitude...oh everything really

.... Hang on a minute?. It's a Homecare plan, right? It covers parts and labour, right? Er .. Yes ?but NOT the flue! In addition, even though they've just been and done their annual "service", it doesn't count for a Landlords Certificate. No, you have to pay someone else to come and do that. So, I'm asking myself. What do they actually do for all the money you pay on a Homecare plan? Not much, it seems. Never mind, I'm still mulling over that quotation?.. **** Gas appliance installation **** Disaster! Money burned by British Gas

Advantages: Large company, synergy, many products offered.
Disadvantages: Price hikes, deparments don't talk to each other

...UPDATE 28.11.08 When I wrote the review below, prices had gone up by 50% since January 2008, with British Gas agents profusely blaming rise in oil prices for rises in both Gas and Electricity. Fair point? By July oil was at a record $147 a barrel at its peak. Since then oil has collapsed to a 2 year low of $52 a barrel and still falling, I spoke to British Gas about this -- they say that gas is already in the system paid for at the old prices! On Radio 4's Today program, they continued along this line when pressed about price rising the moment oil goes up, but stubbornly high when oil comes down. Advantages: NOTHING AT ALL

...When I moved into my flat there were two reasons I decided to choose British Gas as my Gas supplier. Firstly there was already a British Gas Pre Payment meter installed, and secondly I chose them because they were a well known name. Well, if only I?d done some research first I could have saved myself a whole lot of bother. My first problem was actually finding a number to ring to get the supply connected. I tried the Yellow Pages and the Thompson local, but although they had a full page add on the back of the Yellow Pages it was for buying a fireplace, not connecting the gas supply.
