Gateway - the Final Frontier?
Advantages: Great characters and cleverly structured
Disadvantages: The domestic violence bit sticks out like a sore thumb
...Gateway, by Frederik Pohl, is very much in the grand tradition of 'hard SF'. Whereas much of what gets put in the science-fiction section of bookshops is actually little more than fantasy with lasers instead of swords, Gateway is part of the Arthur C Clarke, Bradbury and Asimov school that seeks to extrapolate fantastic worlds from real current science, and examines how science and technology could affect the peoples of those worlds.
In the future, Earth is massively over-populated - and starving. Food is synthesised from hydrocarbons, and there's not enough to go around. Life is brutal and grinding poverty is everywhere.
For the bravest, however, there's an incredible opportunity - Gateway. A relic of a vanished super-race, Gateway is a huge space station filled with alien ships. Huge amounts of money are promised to brave...

The Energizer Battery Charger
Advantages: Good value for money
Disadvantages: Takes a long time to charge batteries
...I had been intending to purchase a battery charger for quite a while. In fact I had even dropped hints to certain family members around Christmas time, but to no avail. I was recently reminded of this missing piece of equipment in my life when I rediscovered the PC lead to my digital camera. Remembering that a pair of standard batteries lasted for only about 30 photos in this camera I decided that it was certainly time to invest in a battery charger and some rechargeable batteries.
I purchased an Energizer CHDCW8 ? 4 battery charger from Argos for just £9.99. This decision was based on several factors, the most important of which was the price and what I considered to be the best value for money. The design also played a part in my decision process, but in the end it was the price/value that were the strongest influencing factors...

Super Sony charger
Advantages: Fast Charge, Auto CutOff
Disadvantages: Only takes AA/AAA
...Getting fed up with constantly having to buy new batteries for our Wii remotes, we started looking into buying some of the rechargeable battery packs you can buy for them. I read a few reviews and decided that it would probably be better to buy a battery charger and a few sets of batteries instead.
After looking around I found the Sony High Capacity Super Quick Charger For AA And AAA Batteries and for £16.99 with four AA batteries included it seemed like a good deal, almost all of our electrical items seem to be Sony so with it being a brand we trusted I bought it.
The charger itself is fairly compact measuring 4" x 2½" x 1" (not including the power lead) it won't take up a lot of room, the power lead is also removable so you can store it away quite easily. The lead is also the same as the other Sony leads we have so if it gets...

Review of Sony Super Quick Charger BCG34HE4 - Battery charger 4xAA/AAA - included batteries: 4 x AA type NiMH 2500 mAh

the intelligent battery charger.
Advantages: Cheap, reliable, long lasting, reasonable price.
Disadvantages: Still gets warm. Plastic plug = breakable?
...---THE PRODUCT---
Definately glad to be an owner of one of these chargers, even though they seem quite pricey, the batteries are great as they are reusable, and you don't waste money on purchasing darn AA batteries, again and again. It's easy to use, don't take hours to charge like the previous models which took around 8 hours and meant that you had to leave it on over night, worrying that it would heat up and catch the house on fire.
I wouldn't be without this, endlessly purchasing batteries for items. Furthermore you can't use ordinary batteries in Digital Camera's as they are drained after you've took three photo's with the flash on. These therefore are robust and useful in the long run and will save you money and time.
---MODEL---
The model number is. RC104318 It's full charge happens in about 90 minutes, however I...

Excellent Battery Charger
Advantages: Charging time of 5 hours, Includes 4 AA batteries, Compact design
Disadvantages: None
...The Uniross x-press 300 is a good charger which supports a range of different battery sizes. I bought this charger last year because I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard so made more sense getting rechargeable batteries rather than spending money on normal batteries every few weeks. I went with Uniross as they make decent rechargeable batteries and are well known for it.
This x-press 300 charges AAA, AA & 9V size batteries. It lets you charge 2 or 4 AA/AAA and one 9V batteries of the same type at the same time. It's suitable for AA, AAA and 9V (PP3) NiCd and NiH batteries. To use AAA batteries you simply flip down a little holder within the charger and it will hold the AAA batteries to charge.
The plug in design makes it easy to use and the built in mains transformer means there are no leads or adaptors. You simply plug it in...

Gateway to trouble
Advantages: Tech support
Disadvantages: Poor customer support and delivery
...SEE END FOR UPDATED SECTION
I got this new computer a couple of months ago; I decided to go with Gateway because they have a better reputation than most. I also looked at Novatech, but as I didn’t know much about them chose Gateway, as the prices for the spec I wanted were almost similar.
When I was first looking a getting a new PC, I was looking at gateways, £999.99 deal, but was persuaded to buy the one I now have for 1180 (ish). I didn’t need much persuading as the system had nearly double the spec for only £180 pounds. For the money I got 1Ghz athlon processor, 256MB RAM, 40Gb hard drive, tnt2 32MB video card, creative labs digital sound card, 17 inch monitor, printer, scanner and all the usually e.g. free software mouse keyboard etc…
OK this service was great, from the Gateway store in Crawley, but what...

Travel to the top of The Gateway Arch Mork-style - in an egg.
Advantages: Elegant architectural icon. Magnificent vies and photographic opportunity.
Disadvantages: Lenghy queues. Only partially accessible for disable visitors.
...The elegant Gateway Arch, reaching up to 630 feet dominates St Louis? skyline. Standing in the Jefferson Natural Expansion Memorial Park, the arch symbolises the role St Louis played as the gateway to the west.
Shortly after the Second World War in 1947, a competition was privately financed to find a suitable architectural centrepiece for the park. The aim was to commemorate Thomas Jefferson?s vision of the spread of freedom and democracy from ?sea to shining sea? and his commissioned expedition in 1804 to the west coast headed by Lewis and Clark.
Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and structural engineer Hannskarl Bandel?s design of this graceful tapered stainless-steel catenary arch won over the 171 other entries. Construction of this remarkable structure took around three years to complete. Pictures of the construction can...

Gateway - your way
Advantages: Great Ram, and resistance to damage
Disadvantages: The ordinar resolution
...The beautiful design makes it all! It has 2year warranty! It has 3 gb of Ram, 250 Gb hard drive. For almost 800$, you've made the best deal. When I saw it, i couldn't believe my eyes! The only thing that may be said of bad about this notebooks is the ordinary resolution - 1,280-by-800. And, nowadays, adding extraspace isn't so expensive. But, the 1.83-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo rises the appreciation. Also, the red color isn't painted in a great way... Performance is the value that
Gateway always maintained. This time too. It has more memory than many others notebooks, and the quality of the images is outstanding.I bought it as a gift for my cousin almost a year ago. He did something to it and had to use the warranty. After they repaired it, it was like new. So, it sustains damage :D But, don't try to crack it beacuse of your nerves. If i...

A dramatic concrete gateway
Advantages: Wide ranging styles of Theatrical productions.
Disadvantages: Concrete 60's Architecture
...Chester is famous for its architecture boasting the remains of a walled Roman city, a Gothic Town Hall, a Norman Cathedral and the Rows - Tudor shops. It is a picturesque and interesting mélange of architectural styles. Yet tucked away behind the Town Hall is the Gateway theatre, a product of the 1960s concrete architectural movement.
The Theatre isn?t very pretty to look at nor is it grand or luxurious inside but it is friendly, welcoming and stages a wide range of theatrical performances.
The Theatre can be accessed by walking through the Forum shopping centre or via a set of stairs situated at the corner of Trinity Street and Hamilton Place. The theatre is easily accessed by disabled patrons with a lift available from the street and parking area to the Theatre and ramps to areas inside the theatre itself.
A paved area...

A 'smart' charger worth buying
Advantages: Low cost, Car charger inc, fast charge times, battery charge detection
Disadvantages: Cautious on overcharging leaving batteries not 100% full
...I picked up this charger a few days ago for £8 with 4 1000mah AAA batteries which seemed like a great price to me for a 'Smart' charger.
In the package I got the charger (quite slim) a standard plug adaptor and a car charger making it ideal to take around with you ensuring you never miss out on a photo perfect moment.
The charger has space for 2 or 4 AA or AAA batteries and has quite a rapid charge time. Here are the charge times quoted by Uniross:
Charging Times: AA 1300mAh : 120 mins, AA 2500mAh : 255mins, AAA 900mAh : 180 mins
It is not the fastest charger around but clearly not the slowest. The main reason why I choose this charger was as it had a charge detection system allowing it to detect how much charge a battery needs until its full. This would be standard you would expect but still many chargers are sold which...
