The only thing that may be said of bad about this notebooks is the ordinary resolution - 1,280-by-800. And, nowadays, adding extraspace isn't so expensive. But, the 1.83-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo rises the appreciation. Also, the red color isn't painted in a great way... Performance is the value that Gateway always maintained. This time too. Gateway IS Performance!

Advantages: High performance, reliability. Good value-for-money.

...I invested in a Gateway Performance 650 system some 4 months ago. I purchased an Epson Perfection 610 scanner, and a HP Deskjet 840C printer separately to get away from the "cheap" packages offered by most of the popular retailers who include only low performance printers and scanners as a part of the deal. I went for a 30Gb hard drive at small incremental cost. The promise of delivery within 7 days was beaten by 2 days! The system was easy to instal, even for a relative novice. Everythiny worked perfectly first time, with no problems to date. I feel the Gateway machine may not appear on the surface to be amongst the cheapest, but if the price of the cheapo peripherals is taken out of many of the "packages" on offer, the Gateway machine does offer good value for money. Gateway Notebook - brilliant!

Advantages: Fast, easy, reliable, versatile
Disadvantages: None I can think of!

...A few weeks ago I acquired a Gateway Solo 2550 Notebook computer principally for my work as an Everest salesman. The company supplied the specialist software - which is brilliant - but I was wary of such a small lightweight machine for regular use. However, it is simply WONDERFUL! I use it for a work, personal use and play several hours every day, and the keyboard and display are SUPERB! The touch pad mouse took a bit of getting used to - but only a bit - and I'm now just as happy with it as a standard mouse. If you've been conditioned to expect notebooks to be inferior to desktops - don't believe it. The extra versatility makes it absolutely invaluable - for my wife and family as well, when they can get their hands on it!...

The monitor that I am very obviously looking at while typing this opinion, is the Gateway EV910 monitor that came as part of my £1400 PC package from Gateway. This monitor, (I may have only had since Christmas) has proven to me that it was certainly worth the replacement of PC. While the main differences are obvious from my CTX 15’ and my Gateway 19’ (Size); the monitor came with a whole load more of advantages that I never thought that I would have gained, and also some disadvantages. Very nice but room for improvement

Advantages: Easy to use, lots of features
Disadvantages: Noisy fan, problems with connecting to other routers

...I've wanted a Network Area Storage device for a while but the prices seemed a little steep. I wanted one that could be expanded with USB ports to add my external hard disk, and perhaps a print server. Even the simplest ones seemed expensive. Recently, just by chance, I found the Freecom FSG-3 Storage Gateway. It not only had a 400 GB capacity and have 4 USB2 ports, but it could also manage printers (a print server) - fantastic! The EV in EV700 stands for EVerlasting!

Advantages: VERY reliable, LONG lasting and durable.
Disadvantages: it is bulky

...Well, it is hard for me to give a comparison because I have had mine through 3 computers. Thats over 10 years. I bought my first Gateway computer in August of '98 with Windows 98, My next one in 2000 (with XP), and the one I have now in 2006 (Vista). I have used my EV700 monitor with all three computers, and I have never had a single problem with it. The picture is still excellent and even though it is old, it still works great with the NVIDEA package that came with Vista. The settings panel and power button are very easy to access, as they are right on the front of the monitor. The only issue I THOUGHT I had was that my videos seemed to play too dark, and I was messing around with my windows settings (NVIDEA) because when I googled my problem everyone kept talking about messing with the settings in the driver. Top quality product that should last a lifetime

Advantages: One small package that does everything a big desktop system can do.
Disadvantages: Internal modem not very fast - get a PCMCIA card

Nice monitor but poor reliability.

Advantages: Nice picture, shame about the longevity!
Disadvantages: When it dies on you after the 12 month warranty - its useless!!!

...I bought a Gateway EV-700 monitor just 14 months ago as part of a Gateway 650 Performance system. Whilst the PC system has been excellent, I have been very disappointed with ther monitor's reliability. The monitor itself gives an excellent picture. The visible screen size of 15.9 inches is great. The panel at the front of the screen to adjust the various screen parameters is quite flexible, and is hidden from view behild a nice spring loaded door. I thought it would be a good servant! HOWEVER - after just 14 months (2 months out of warranty!) - the screen started flickering, and the occasional "crack" somewhat like an electrical spark, gave cause for concern. What A Disaster - UPDATE Dec 30th 2001

Advantages: I tried very hard to think of one
Disadvantages: Just about everything

...I tried taking off some of the Windows functions ( it runs on Windows 98) I never used to speed it up a tad. This caused the whole system to have a nervous breakdown, and I ended up having to format the hard drive. NIGHTMARE time. Lots of lost files. Also the keyboard. It is really "sticky", and also has the keys wrongly labelled in two or three places. The fingertip mouse is also a disaster area. It is so sensitive that all you have to do is breathe heavily on it, and it has you jumping allover the place. At the moment it is back with Gateway because the internal modem has just broken down for the second time in three months. They have it for two weeks now, and no sign of it being repaired any time soon. To be totally honest, I wouldn't care too much if I never saw the damn thing again, I'm so sick of it at this stage.
