Gavin & Stacey - Series 1

Advantages: A strong British sitcom
Disadvantages: Still has it's odd critic

...Name a decent British sitcom from the last 5 years....now name one that isn't written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant....or David Mitchell and Robert Webb...all you're left with (in my opinion) is a little known sitcom written by Ruth Jones and James Corden that has escalated from a bit-part in the schedule of BBC Three to one of the most loved comedies of recent years - Gavin & Stacey. The story goes of two people who have never met, Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page), but eventually decide to do so after months of chatting to one another over the phone. Upon meeting in the middle of Leicester Square along with their best mates, Smithy (played by Corden) and Nessa (Jones), they hit it off and decide it was one of the best decisions they ever made. Advantages: Very funny
Disadvantages: Finished before you know it

...This is one of the funniest British comedy shows on TV of recent years. About the show ************* The show first aired on BBC3 in May 2007 and has 6 x 30 minute episodes in this first series. The show starts of with 2 people who have become quite friendly whilst chatting on the phone at work. They are Gavin and Stacey, Gavin is from Essex and Stacey is from Barry Island, Wales. BRILLIANT! Well Done James and Ruth.

Advantages: Funny, Believable, Just Great!
Disadvantages: Nothing

...I only recently started watching Gavin and stacey after my mum and younger brother kept telling I had to watch it because it was really funny and just a simply brilliant British comedy series. It is simply a story of how a nice boy from Essex meets a nice girl from Wales. Gavin and Stacey speak every day on the phone for 6 months, the first episode is their first meeting. They each bring along a mate (Nessa and Smithy) to this first meeting and the intertwined tales of love, friendship and family begin. So who is everyone? Gavin is a nice, sweet lad who likes spending time in the pub trying beers from around the world with his best mate Smithy. He works in computers and lives in Essex with his Mum and Dad. Oh, what's occuring?

Advantages: Funny, well written comedy
Disadvantages: Waiting for series 3.

...I got this DVD box set bought for me for my birthday late last year, i was an avid fan as soon as Gavin and Stacey appeared on our screens, as were many people, so was obviously overjoyed at my present. So what is Gavin and Stacey about, i hear you shout. Well it's pretty much about two young people who meet, fall in love and get married, with plenty of ups and downs along the way. It's a very well made British comedy. Written by James Corden and Ruth Jones, who also star in the comedy themselves. In my personal opinion, it's one of the best British comedys of recent years, as i think a few British comedys lack what Gavin and Stacey has to offer, it has none of that dreadful canned laughter, and actually has a lovely story behind it, not none of this gag-after-gag-after-gag stuff. Time you heard some Gavin Degraw!

Advantages: The album never slows, great track after great track!
Disadvantages: Some of the stripped versions dont carry as much weight.

...Where do i start with this album. Well as a fan of one tree hill i fell in love with the theme tune. Gavin Degraw's I dont want to be. What a track that was. So i researched him. Using Windows Media Guide i was able to get some previews of some of his other tracks off of the chariot album. I was aMazed. Ok for sure, I dont want to be is the kindle to the fire of this album, but dont get me wrong- every other track delievers. If you like I dont wanna be... you will love at least over three quarters of the album. Great songs to look out for are -Follow Through (which he has recently released on single), Over Rated, Chariot, Just Friends, Cop Stop oh and Belief. PEOPLE FROM THE OTHER UNIVERSE

Advantages: a good story line
Disadvantages: it lags on for way too long!!!

I realized then that the author, Jamila Gavin, wanted to try and grab the reader in by describing certain things that didn't need to be described, this made the story go ever so slowly and made it completely boring so I gave up on it a second time! So I left it aside again, and I picked it up about a month ago and started reading it, being so determined to actually finish it! So I blanked out my entire head and started reading. I actually finished it this time though it was pretty difficult, as the boring parts tryed putting me to sleep. soooo did I enjoy it? no not really, if Jamila could have stopped describing certain things that wasn't applicable in the story then she would be able to grip every reader in the UNIVERSE into the book. But I found it unexciting! But the closer you got towards the end the more you got into it...

Interesting speculations

Advantages: Good and imaginative descriptions
Disadvantages: Some unsupported interpretations and speculations

...I am of two minds about this book by Gavin Menzies. I find it absolutely fascinating to read some of the speculations and interpretations that he puts on different maps and findings. I find it credible to believe that Chinese fleets of the early 1400s would be trading in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean, making regular journeys to places as far as Africa, and perhaps reaching the Pacific Coasts of North and South America a few times. However, I don't know what to think of such issues as Puerto Rico not only having been discovered by Chinese Fleets, but that based on this information, the Portuguese would have colonised areas in the Caribbean a generation prior to Columbus' journey - there seems no credible reason why Prince Henry the Navigator, being given such acclaim in history as he has been, would not also be credited...
