...After getting myself into the whole iMovie and DV camcorder thang, I realised that the tiny hard drive (10 Gb) in my iBook was not enough (1 hour of DV footage takes up 13 Gb), so I started looking for alternatives. As Firewire is the only high speed connection on the laptop, I looked around. Most 30-40Gb Hard drives for Firewire (Also Sony i.Link) were £250, but I saw this one by Maxtor - 80 Gb for under £350. The Box is smaller than I thought, and Graphite and ice to match the iBook, but it does come with an ugly and propriety power supply. Very fast was my first reaction. It can stream DV footage without any dropped frames - and thats 5 Mbytes/s. So, unless you are doing pro DV or something really demanding there is no point in buying the 75Gb drives out there that cost over £700 - the extra little bit of speed is really... Read review

Advantages: Large storage capacity , very fast, very quite in operation
Disadvantages: a bit bulky but hey i want the storage.

...The reason I brought this drive ? lets see now........ Its from a reliable manafacturer of hard drives. It has 250 GB of storage, it has 16Gb of Ram and its Sata II compliant. Installation was straightforward if your used to pulling stuff out of your PC and adding new bits. PERFORMANCE. Well for me it had a WOW factor of warp 10 very very fast I cant hear it operate have to check the light to make sure its seeking / writing .Took a while to format .....well its 250 GB so worth the wait. I have been using mine now for about 5 months I installed XP pro as the operating system and now its stuffed full of videos my whole CD collection web pages letters photos stuffed and theres still loads more space left to use. I am not going to get technical here if you want that read the manafacturers site. Just say its fast is working fine... Read review

Advantages: ALOT of SPACE, very quick

...with backups of university work, and photos (the 3 rules of computing are back up, back up, back up!). Performance It transfers at a very fast rate which in practise turned out to be surprisingly fast. Access time was very quick, so within the hour i had backed up and transferred my files!. I have had no trouble streaming games and movies from my hard disk, with access to files within the disk is as instant as a normal hard disk drive. It can be standing upright. 500 GB for this amount of money is a bargain.... Read review

Advantages: Sturdy Metal Case and efficient fan.

...I have used this computer every working day for the last twenty months, it is turned on at 7.30 a.m. and I work on it till approx. 6.15 p.m. every working day. It is also used after work, sometimes till the early hours of the morning. The rest of my family use it for internet access and my daughter creates digital art upon it and also scans in her pencil and other works. At the weekends the computer is used by the whole of my family for internet access, so it is used every day of the week. The 9150 computer has a metal case which is very sturdy, it also has a very efficient fan at the front behind the fascia, this is easy to get at for cleaning. The version of the 9150 that I have has a 250 GB hard drive, 1 GB RAM, Pentium D processor which is the next one up from the P4 I am told. There is a CD/RW & a DVD/RW drive and a space...
