...We had the TNT then the TNT 2 then the TNT Ultra and TNT value card. Vida has used the same series again with its Geforce range. We had the Geforce and the Geforce 2 then game the value card the Geforce 2 MX, and the Ultra card has already been released. Just like many value cards the architecture of the card is the same as its bigger brother but the clock speed and the memory speed are lower and there is not as many pipelines as the Geforce 2. This obviously reduces performance but by how much? Well unless you are running the latest games in hi resolutions then you may not even notice the difference. People say you can get over 100 Fps in certain games with the latest cards. 100Fps! Can you really tell the difference between 100Fps and 80Fps, I doubt it, Can your monitor even display 100Fps allot cant. Maybe you should take all...

...Optimization, that was the word of the day for nVIDIA when they thought about their "Summer Speed-Up" product and gave birth to the GeForce2 Ultra. Not only was the hardware optimized but the software was trimmed down to fighting weight as well. The basic functionality of the GeForce2 Ultra is the same, as well as the drivers, with the exception of the GeForce2 MX's Twin View and Digital Vibrance Control However, everything has been buffed out and turned up a notch such that it almost feels like a totally new product. We don't often get a product in the door here that leaves us amazed but the GeForce2 GTS Ultra with its new Detonator 3 Drivers. We were genuinely impressed. GeForce 2 Pro - The choice of the professional

Advantages: Super stable, cheap, fast, TV-Out

This is a 3D graphics card for a computer, it is the connection between what you see on your screen and what the computer is outputting. Most cards do the 2D drawing of windows, and the like, without much bother. But when it comes to 3D rendering the gloves really come off. It slips in easily into the AGP (advanced graphics port) slot on your motherboard, and it's the standard size so you won't have any trouble getting it in, unlike those AGP Pro cards. Geforce 6800 flex 2 da max, init men!

Advantages: Faster than a rabbit with it's arse on fire
Disadvantages: As big as a tortoise on a year long binge eating spree

The funny thing is that the GeForce 6800 can be overclocked to run even faster than it already is and be completely stable (very dangerous if you're impatient and you could burn out your card if you don't do it properly.) I only had a chance to test it in 3DMARK03 at the maximum the GeForce 6800 could overclock to, and I got a score of over 11,000... merely a hair's strand away from it's faster sibling the GeForce 6800 GT. Ah another good thing to report, even at those speeds the graphics card's temperature was constantly in the 50 degrees region, perfectly safe and keeping a constantly temp is very good since if it got hotter than that would be bad. So, how does this card perform in real life gaming? How does Half Life 2 at 1280 x 1024 with all settings on highest, Anti-Aliasing at 4x, Anistropic Filtering at 8x, with the game still...

The best way to Overclock the Geforce 2

Advantages: Very Very fast
Disadvantages: Needs quicker memory to keep up with the core speed

...The Geforce 2 will be a monster of a card and the FPS will be matched by no other at the moment. It is however currently wasting some of its capability. The memory bandwidth is not enough to cope with the top speed of the card. This means that the peak fill rate cant be acheived if the textures are retreived from the memory. You will not notice the difference in todays games and maybe not in the next gen games, but its something that Nvidia can improve on in the future. The memory speed has to be increased faster than 6ns which would cost them a fortune at the moment. It has all the other features that you would expect from the Nvidia GPU such as Hardware T&L. The core has been known to clock to 250Mhz which is blistering speed for a video card at the moment. However Not all cards reach this kind of speed it depends...

I had the choice of 32Mb with the MX extras or a 64Mb version without. As my existing card had a paltry 8Mb (don't laugh) the 32Mb looked good enough for me and the MX features would partly replace what the Matrox could do (it had video sampling with the MX doesn't have). It's an AGP card but then again all are these days so it's nothing to get excited about. I'll be honest, my existing Matrox card was a delight but a total nightmare to install (just ask anyone who's ever tried) so the first task was to get Windows back to using the standard VGA drivers. No problems so far. The instructions were as usual thrown to one side (real users don't real manuals) and I simply swapped the cards...

Not much to choose between GeForce2 & ATI Radeon

Advantages: very quick, top technology
Disadvantages: cost, equalled by the cheaper ATI Radeon for performance

...Theres no doubting that this is one hell of a quick card. It is on a par just about with what in my opinion is the best buy graphics card of the moment, the ATI Radeon. In the benchmarks i've seen, the Radeon nicks it in some areas and the GeForce 2 nicks it in other areas, however the Radeon is a lot cheaper and therefore in my opinion nicks it overall, despite both being the same for speed. You can get several variations of the GeForce 2 at the moment. Theres a 32 Mb AGP, 64 Mb AGP and probably the most controversial of all, the 32 Mb AGP GeForce 2 MX. This is a cut down version of the GeForce 2 and can be picked up for around £110-00. This is a good price for a card offering things like DDR and performance in between a GeForce 256 DDR and a GeForce 2 GTS.
