Feel the power of the GeForce

Advantages: Quality performance without breaking the bank

...Well recently my trusty old (and I do mean old) NVIDIA GeForce 5 card gave up the ghost. TO be honest it wasn't a total disaster, as I had been waiting for it to fail to give me an excuse to replace it. The graphics card was the last thing on my PC to update, and so I started the process of reading reviews, and magazines to try and find a quality replacement without breaking the bank. My search led me to the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS card. I believe that the NVIDIA cards are the market leader when it comes to graphics, and so I have always been brand loyal to them. Now I wanted something which would not become obsolete within a couple of weeks of purchase, yet I wasn't prepared to spend £400+ on the top of the range cards as I do not play massive amounts of games which would require such power. Feel The GeForces...

Advantages: No Hardware Conflicts, Runs newish games perfectly
Disadvantages: None at the moment

...and effective with a GUI leading the user through the whole process and online driver updates are easy to find on the GeForce site with prompts and questions to define exactly what one you need. The card comes with a few adapters (DVI-VGA and a S-Video Cable) which are useful I would reccomend this card but ast the same time, there are better ones out there and faster ones for a little more money so take it into consideration....

The ge-force is strong in this one

...these can be anything as up to 2 months old, instead pop along to www.nvidia.co.uk or www.nvidia.com and download the latest drivers as Nvidia are always improving and making the drivers for these cards even better. Once the drivers are aquired, cancel the "windows - show me the drivers" dialogue screens and fully remove the older drivers from your old card before clicking the nvidia installer and installing the "geforce" drivers as this fixes 9/10 issues I have heard of in the past. Once the drivers are installed, the system will ask if you want to reboot - Reboot and the card should be installed and fully working. If by chance you notice that the card has been installed as a "NVIDIA 6800 Series GPU" in the system properties then its installed fine as both 6800GT's in this system are labelled as such. ...). Off to the shops after much consulting with mates, reading of reviews etc. and I end up with an NVidia GeForce2 MX. Is it good? Read on fair viewer... I had the choice of 32Mb with the MX extras or a 64Mb version without. As my existing card had a paltry 8Mb (don't laugh) the 32Mb looked good enough for me and the MX features would partly replace what the Matrox could do (it had video sampling with the MX doesn't have). It's an AGP card but then again all are these days so it's nothing to get excited about. I'll be honest, my existing Matrox card was a delight but a total nightmare to install (just ask anyone who's ever tried) so the first task was to get Windows back to using the standard VGA drivers. No problems so far. The instructions were as usual thrown to one side (real users don't real manuals) and I simply swapped the cards...
