Study, study, study.
Advantages: See text.
Disadvantages: See text.
...I would just like to write a review on home study, something that I am sure that many of us have all done at one time or another. It is not something that we enjoy doing, and yet it makes up an important part of our studying times.
For many, studying at home is perhaps the most hardest part of studying because a lot of the time it is something that you do on yur own - and because there are no other people about, it is hard to get in to the habit of doing so because nobody will smack your legs if you don't do it! Therefore, one of the best ways in which I have fouond to study at home is to do it with another one or two peopple who were all onmy course. We were all at the same stage; all studying the same things, and so therefore could all learn from one another.
However, there will be times when you have to study on your own...

Education Studies at SHU
Advantages: Friendly staff, keep job options open, Sheffield, Work Experience
Disadvantages: Work Placements aren't always as hoped for
...Education Studies - UCAS course code X300
--------------------------------------------------------------
Fir stly let me introduce myself properly, I am a third year student on the Education Studies Course at Sheffield Hallam University. I originally came from a small village on the north east coast and so coming to a big city like Sheffield was a bit of a shock to the system. If you are interested in reading about the University itself then I have written a detailed review, that you can read here:
http://www.ciao.co.uk/SheffieldHallamUniversityReview5689286
Of course some of the details in this review will cross into the realm of the university in general, but I'll try to ensure that this covers the course in detail.
I'd also like to mention at this point that the course has recently undergone a number of changes, I...

Studying Americans
Advantages: Interesting subjects, great tutors
Disadvantages: Limited choice in first year
...American Studies BA can be combined with:
Biology, Business, Cities, Drama, Early Years, Education, English, Environmental Studies, European Studies, Family Studies, Geography, Health, Health & Safety,
History, Identity Studies, Mathematics, Music, Psychology, Religion and Sociology.
I studied it combined with English but in the final year I decided to major in American Studies.
American Studies can also be studied for 4 years as a single honours subject.
Things you may study:
1. Culture:
- The transcendentalists. You are likely to touch upon Walt Whitman at least once, in particular by dipping into the Norton Anthology of American Literature.
- The beat movement, including Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, and Jazz.
- The development & politicisation of rock music (Bob Dylan)
- Underground comix
- LSD...

A Study In Scarlet
Advantages: Incredibly addictive read. Interesting story and characters
Disadvantages: If not pre-warned about it the second part could seem WEIRD!
...of the smartness of the Scottish-born author.
---------------------------------Conclusion------------------- --------------
A Study In Scarlet was incredibly interesting to read, I could hardly put it down (as a consequence I often turned off the bedside lamp at 3am). Doyle's writing is pleasant and can be read at any age. The feel of the Victorian era is unmistakable and priceless. After reading this novel you can understand why Holmes & Watson had such a huge success worldwide, you just can't wait to read another of their adventures!...

American Studies at Keele
Advantages: Great tutors, department is in the top 5 of the UK
Disadvantages: They assume you know lots about the subject
...I'm currently coming to the end of my second year at Keele university in the Midlands studying American Studies and History, and seeing as I've just done a review on the History side of things I thought I would do the same for American Studies. Opting to take history as a degree subject was fairly easy for me because I've always had a love for it, but my choice of American Studies was a little random, and even now I try to work out just why I did pick it... I guess I enjoy learning about American history more than anything else, but ho hum. Keele offers American Studies as a single degree and as part of the dual honours programme (which I do). So those on the single degree study more modules than those doing the dual.
When you tell some people what your course is they think that American Studies is a bit like media studies - a bit...

Study Skills and Tips
Advantages: Study Tips = Great results
Disadvantages: Hard work
...In December, I?ll be required to sit the first two examinations for my A.C.C.A. (Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants) course. In preparation for these exams I have booked a combined total of 8 days of work over the next two months, in order to study and revise for these exams.
Because I last studied over 3 years ago, when I completed my A.A.T. (Associated of Accounting Technicians), I have been feeling particularly nervous about my studies, as I am basing these first two papers entirely on home study. I may yet consider a last minute revision course with a tutor, but in the meantime I need to make the most of the time I have allocated myself, in order to pass these exams.
In order to help me, and other ciaoer?s whom are either studying primarily at home, or another location, I have compiled a list of useful studying...

Generally Chaotic
Advantages: Multiplayer, nice animation, quirky
Disadvantages: Pales into obscurity versus todays technology
...I decided to write a review of this seeing as I've never met anyone else who has ever heard of this bar my own brother. we used to while away the time on this simplistic army game.
The game is named after one of the storyline's main General's. The conflict in question is between the blue forces of 'General Chaos' and the red troops of 'General Havoc.'
The game is a very cartoony offering from EA, released in 1994 on SEGA Mega Drive. It is a mulitplayer compatible game and two players can play either co-op or against each other, and if I'm not mistaken, it was also possible to play 4 player with use of the special multiplayer pads.
I no longer own this game and as a result am reviewing this from hazy childhood memory. The two main game modes are firstly a kind of 'campaign mode' where players compete against the computer for specific...

Mature Student's Study Guide: No More, No Less.
Advantages: Lots of information, extremely clear and helpful
Disadvantages: Over-explains and doesn't motivate or inspire
...The Mature Student?s Study Guide is straightforward and does exactly what it says on the tin: it?s designed to help people returning to education ? whether it?s after a gap of 5 years or 50. The advice is fairy basic, but covers everything: the idea is to use the Study Guide as a starting point before referring to other books to tackle any problem areas. It is designed for both attending a college or university and distance learning, although the content applies more to degree courses.
The first chapters are only mildly helpful. They are: ?Learning How To Learn?, ?Preparing for Study?, ?Organizing Your Study?, ?Enhancing Your Reading Skills?, ?Enhancing Your Writing Skills? and ?Enhancing Your Mathematical and Scientific Skills?. I suspect that they would be more useful to someone returning to education after a longer time or to...

A Level Film Studies - My Fortè
Advantages: Interesting, Practical, Branches your film taste
Disadvantages: Recommend taking the course in a well equipped college/school
...As you all may have noticed from reading my profile I have recently just finished taking my A Level exams. Over the two year course i studied History, English, ICT, Drama and my fortè which is Film Studies.
I would like to take this oppurtunity to explain to you all about this subject and how and why it had changed my career path over the past 2 years. Before i started my A Levels, i had many differnt aspirations, first of becoming a lawyer, then of being a chef. However, once i started my A Level course in Film Studies 2 years ago i have my heart set on working in the film industry. This is so true that i am awaiting to start my BA course at BCUC University to major in film production and minor in film studes with a sandwich year to work in calilfornia and visit the Cannes Film Festival.
This all may sound ambitious to you all...

University of Nottingham: English Studies
Advantages: Scope for learning more than just literature; Good tutors
Disadvantages: Not quite sure what it wants to be; Old English is pointless
...I attended this course up intil the end of the second semester, when I withdrew because I was unhappy with it (for reasons that I will go into later). Just to clarify, I'm not saying don't attend this course, but just that it wasn't right for me.
Here's a breakdown of what I thought about the course, but this is only applicable for the first year:
Modules:
The course is VERY broad, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a straight literature course. The four main modules are
- Modern Lit (1500s onwards). This is assessed by coursework and exam. Books that I studied included Frankenstein, Heart of Darkness and Mrs. Dalloway.
- Linguistics. This is a very interesting subject, and is assessed by coursework in the first semester and exams.
-Old English. By far the worst aspect of the course. It is assessed by a 2500 word...
