Geomag - an addictive toy for grown up children!
Review of Geomag SA geomag by
jmarko
Advantages: Cheap to start a little collection; hours of entertainment; will bring out the child in you!
Disadvantages: Ever so slightly addictive!
...Geomag is a toy made primarily of rods with magnets at either end and little metallic balls (you can also get panels that fit in the gaps of square shapes and so on). They come in a range of bright and fun colours and you can also get glow in the dark pieces! Each rod is approximately 2 cms long but you can make massive structures out of them!
Geomag came on the scene back in 1998 and has become a modern day lego (not that lego does not exist any more, but you get my point!).
Models are made by connecting the rods with the balls together in a lattice.
There is an excellent website showcasing various weird and wonderful creations at:
http://textodigital.com/P/GG/bindex.php
The structures on the site range from small to larger ones taking up to almost 8000 pieces!
Geomag is an excellent toy that is great fun for all ages. It has...

Geomag
Review of Geomag SA 42 Piece Glow In the Dark Set by
scooby32
Advantages: can make good stuff
Disadvantages: Need more magnets
...Geomag is an educational box of magnetic strips that can make quite a few building things.
The difference with this box is it is glow in the dark and it does, you build what you want and lift it to the light and then turn the lights of and you have this fun green construction glowing in your room.
My son asked for Knex for Christmas and we came across this box of Geomag's and thought it was worth a try.
We first seen them in Aldi for £14.99 but we bought them for £9.99 in Toys 'R' Us.
I have to say it was well worth £10 but my son has made the remark a couple of times that there is not enough magnet strips in the box.
Geomag's are thick strips of plastic that can be connected together with small metal ball magnets, my opinion these are not for small children, even though on the box it says suitable for age 3 to age 99. The magnet balls...

Hurray! A Toy that's not a lurid plastic pony!
Review of Geomag SA geomag by
Nettienoodle
Advantages: Educational and fun
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...Our little girl was bought a 46 piece set of geomag when she was 4, and took to it straightaway, although in truth, she's more interested in it now she's 6. I would say it's the sort of toy which could entertain you for a lifetime, because it's as simple or as complex as you want to make it. Basically, it's just magnetic balls and rods which can be built into various shapes, constructions and models. Some sets also contain transparent coloured plastic panels of different shapes which you can slot into your construction to make it more colourful, or to add an extra dimension to your model making as well as giving your structures more rigidity. ( These panels can also be bought seperately in various size packs)
It's quite addictive, in an executive toy sort of way, is an excellent way of increasing manual dexterity for small children...

I'm stuck! (Magnetically)
Review of Geomag SA 42 Piece Set by
MunchkinClaire
Advantages: Really good fun, makes you look like less of a kid whilst playing with it.
Disadvantages: Instructions are hard to follow.
...Geomags are an ingenious Swiss-made toy product made up of "plastic rods (27 mm length and 7.4 mm diameter) featuring two permanent magnets placed at the two extremities and a steel plug positioned between the two magnets" (the yellow things in the picture) and also "nickle-plated steel spheres (12.7 mm diameter)". Using these rods and balls you can build structures and models, both static and moving.
A 42 piece set contains 24 rods and 18 balls.
I purchased this in a fairly tacky shop for £3. I'd seen the sets before but had always been put off by their price, and £3 seemed a reasonable price to pay just to see if this product was any good. So I got a set. I took it home. I haven't stopped playing with it (except to buy some more)!
Firstly you have a choice of four colours for the rods: green, yellow, blue and red. I opted for green...

Just try and get me unstuck!
Review of Geomag SA 46 Piece Panel Set by
MunchkinClaire
Advantages: Attractive, sturdier than the Colour option.
Disadvantages: You run out of parts pretty quickly
...Geomags Panels are an ingenious Swiss-made toy product made up of "plastic rods (27 mm length and 7.4 mm diameter) featuring two permanent magnets placed at the two extremities and a steel plug positioned between the two magnets" (the silver rod things in the picture), "nickle-plated steel spheres (12.7 mm diameter)" and transparent plastic panels in various shapes (square, triangle, diamond, pentagon). Using these rods, balls and panels you can build much stronger structures and models, both static and moving.
A 46 piece set contains 13 silver rods, 12 balls, 1 red pentagon, 6 blue squares, 6 yellow diamonds and 8 green triangles.
I purchased this for £3. I'd seen the sets before but had always been put off by their price, and £3 seemed a reasonable price to pay just to see if this product was any good. So I got a set. I took it home...

Scientific construction
Review of Geomag SA geomag by
danielalong
Advantages: Teaches scientific concepts
Disadvantages: Spheres get lost
.... They could be very dangerous if swallowed, and they keep getting lost. However, what we found is that if they role, they can usually be found next to the fridge, for obvious reasons, so best advise is to play with them close to something metal.
A great idea, and one which we will be adding to.

Magnetix
Review of RoseArt Magnetix 285 Piece Set with Storage Tub by
iamthebest1
Advantages: Great toy when you have lots of it.
Disadvantages: very dissapointing
...Magnetix
Well I purchased this box from Argos for £29.99 because I thought that it would be quite good to experiment with to see what I could make. It comes in a nice big blue storage box so you can keep all of your pieces inside. The box is a 285 piece set so I was over the moon that I was getting so much for this price as I have seen the GEOMAG that sells for twice this amount.
Well when I purchased it and felt the weight of it thought whay I'm on to something here, there's loads. It's a big blue container with the Magnetix logo on it sealed with vacuumed packed cellophane, so I ripped this off so I could start playing. But to my disappointment when I opened the box there was a polystyrene sheet that held the pieces in place and it didn't really look that exciting anymore. So I removed this polystyrene and found...

Tallulabang's Challenge !
Review of Everything that starts with T ... by
Averilla
Advantages: More about me !
Disadvantages: More madness !
...This is Tallulahbang's challenge. If you'd like to try it, please leave a message in her GB!
1. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU SPOKE TO?
My other half, Ian, He asked me if I could hold something for him, and I told him to 'Do it yourself !' (Before you ask, he was playing with my son's Geomags, which , before you ask again, are a construction toy !!)
2. WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE NUMBER?
I suppose that would be 21, because that's my birth date..I always use our birth dates to play the lottery because I think they are lucky !! Okay we haven't won yet...but they WILL be lucky..I just know.
3. IF YOU HAD TO SLEEP WITH A CARTOON CHARACTER, WHO WOULD IT BE, AND WHY?
What sort of a question is this ??? Errr...The blond chap out of Scooby Doo..he looks pretty fit, although I might have to edit him a bit first !!
4. WHAT SONG WOULD YOU SING...
