He's the Dark Horse
Review of George Harrison by
CrutcHead
Advantages: Member of the Beatles
Disadvantages: Overshadowed by the Beatles
...70's rock groups that served as the bands to formidably influence and immortalize Rock music in general and fulfill the saying that Rock N Roll will Never Die; and perhaps Frank Zappa might’ve wounded up as a plumber instead.
And yes I wonder what would've happened with Hendrix! For little had it been ever recognized nor hardly even noticed that if it weren’t for the Beatles there wont be any slingshot guitar playing that would've came into being that plays along on a single guitar string.
And hearken who would've invented the idea or presented such a perverse manner of guitar playing but the Beatles' own guitarist, the mostly highly unsung George Harrison – who’ve innovated the guitar playing which Chuck Berry initialized, as it is evidently met on those Beatle songs.
This is the very same observation that I would present to my...

Stuck Inside A Cloud.....
Review of Brainwashed [Digipak] - George Harrison by
sam1942
Advantages: Gentle and full of thoughtful lyrics and the odd catchy melody
Disadvantages: There are one ot two tracks that don't make the grade
...On a cold, windy day, the twenty fifth of February 1943. Mrs Louise Harrison gave birth to the youngest of the clan and named him George. Born at 12 Arnold Grove, Waretree, Liverpool. Harold and Louise had been married thirteen years by now, and it would be almost another fourteen years to the date that George nervously picked up his guitar and went shakely with his close friend Paul McCartney, to see a group at the lesser know Wilson Hall in Garston known as the even lesser know QuarryMen. It was of course here, that he met John Lennon, and after occasionaly 'filling' in for them when they were a guitar short, John finally gave in to both George and Paul's persistance, and George was officially allowed to join the band. After years of endless badly paid gigs at schools and village fetes and shortly before a trip to play...

All Things Must Pass
Review of All Things Must Pass [Remastered] - George Harrison by
apple_scruff
Advantages: Mind blowing musical masterpiece of one man's struggle to find himself
Disadvantages: weak 2nd disc
...Title: All Things Must Pass
Producer: Phil Spector
Release date: 27th November 1970
INTRODUCTION: I hope this review, whilst containing both fact and opinions on and about the album 'All Things Must pass' by George Harrison, will help you, dear reader, to understand what a great collection of songs this album truly is. While informing you on George Harrison's background etc I can inform you of the origins of this album and help you to understand it's inspiration. Enjoy.
INSPIRATIONAL ROOTS
Goodbye Beatles!
After the miserable 'Get Back' recording sessions (later the album was renamed as 'Let It Be') in 1969, and the final Beatle's album to be made 'Abbey Road' ('Let It Be' was recorded previous to 'Abbey Road' but released after it), the Beatles were well and truly over. The band, as a whole had outgrown each...

A Journey back to the 60s with George Harrison
Review of Withnail And I (Wide Screen) by
TrueChristian
Advantages: Excellent classic film of the 80's - becomming a cult film
Disadvantages: Not suitable for children because of swearing, etc.
...”, played by King Curtis on the Saxophone, “My Friend” and “Walk hand in Hand”, performed by Charlie Kunz, “Schubert’s Piano Sonata in B Flat Major” performed by Leslie Pearson, “All Along the Watchtower” and “Voodoo Chile”, by Jimi Hendrix, “Hang Out the Stars in Indiana”, performed by Al Bowlly, and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, by the late lamented George Harrison, who provided much of the financial backing for this memorable film.
This is a thoroughly entertaining 108 minutes of humourous entertainment, suitable for broad-minded adults who enjoy the generous use of profanities and sexual innuendoes, a few too many drinks, a convincing 60’s atmosphere, superb performances from the excellent cast, and music to make your heart weep...

Re-evaluation of some material musings
Review of Living In The Material World - George Harrison by
JOHNV
Advantages: Has stood the test of time
Disadvantages: Two or three weaker tracks
...In 1973, all four former Beatles were competing with each other to prove they could deliver the goods – and consistently – without each other, if only to silence punters who still wanted them to get back together again and were almost sure they would. George Harrison had been the only one to top the UK singles charts (with ‘My Sweet Lord’), and had followed it up with the musically sublime Bangla Desh benefit concert, the Live Aid of 1971.
Less than two years later, ‘Living In The Material World’ entered the UK charts on release at No. 2, and topped the US album chart. But overall expectations had been too high, and it was a major disappointment to some – not least the critics. Three decades later, it’s re-evaluation time.
Fact. Only one track is co-produced by Phil Spector, who had been responsible for the massive wall of sound...

Dark horse or dark hoarse
Review of Dark Horse - George Harrison by
JOHNV
Advantages: Tracks 1, 3, 6 and (with reservations) 7
Disadvantages: Tracks 4 and 9
...George Harrison, 'the quiet one' of the Beatles, has recently been in the news for none-too-happy reasons. Time, I thought, to go back into my record collection and refresh myself on one or two of his albums I hadn't listened to properly for a while.
'Dark Horse' was first released in December 1974. Critics had expected the world from him after the high point on which he started his solo career, notably the 1971 Bangla Desh benefit gig, and failure to come up to expectations, plus his outspoken religious beliefs, brought the knives out. This was greeted with a univeral thumbs-down, especially in Britain, and apart from various experimental Beatles-connected projects issued in the late 60s, it was the first solo set by an ex-member to miss the UK chart completely, remarkable given that his previous album had peaked at No. 2 18...
