...Well now that my reviews for Chicago and Las Vegas have been completed I guess its time to move onto my third stop, don't worry only two more stops after this, in what was an amazing summer. The next leg of my journey took me to the state capital of Washington DC. The roots of American democracy and the political capital of the world. This was actually my last stop before coming back home, however I just felt like writing about this now. I had pre booked my ticket to DC whilst I was in London with American Airlines from Chicago; it set me back about £150, which for a peak time in mid July was not bad what so ever. Having stayed in DC for a week this review will focus more on the sights and places I visited, if I forget to mention the obvious places to see its because I didn't really go their and I therefore don't see the need to mention...

Review of General: Washington DC

Washington State! A Love Affair.!!!

Advantages: An intereresting STATE to be in.
Disadvantages: It can be cold and wet! When its hot its HOT

...In 1990 I fell in love! corny? not really, I was in love with Washington State, and what a State to be in. Where do I start. In Seattle on the borders of Canada, or by the Columbia River Gorge, on the Borders of Oregon. Yes that is where my affair began. Portland in Oregan. From the Airport in Portland it is just a few minutes drive to Camas in Washington where I stayed with friends for a while. Camas is a really small town on the river, known for its logging, and Paper Factories. A very pretty little town, high above the river. with views of Portland on the other side, when at night the lights from this large modern town in Oregon twinkle in a dazzling display of stars hovering over the river, their reflection doubling the display as they bounced off the water. HI Washington DC!

Advantages: Great tours, good breakfast, good facilities
Disadvantages: Reception staff were quite rude

...I stayed at this hostel for a few days in mid August. It was my first time ever staying in a hostel as I've always gone with hotels, being unable to see the allure of sleeping in a room with a million other people. Unfortunatley, the sheer amount of places I wanted to visit meant there was no way I could have the money to stay in a hotel or have a room by myself, and so Hostelling International Washington DC was the way forward for me. And you know what? I'm glad I did. This hostel wasn't the cleanest one in the world, but it did it's job. The outside blends in well with the surroundings and due to all the flags sticking outside is relatively easy to find. The rooms themselves were surprisingly attractive to me. My room was quite large (despite having chosen the option to have thhe most people in the room, it was still very spacious...

This book, however does indeed have a scary dragon, but the hero, far from being a knight in shining armour, is a mouse called George. ~~Story and Illustrations~~ The scene is set as we enter a landscape of high and rocky mountains and move into a "deep, deep valley in a dark dark cave"" (ooh!! The suspense). In this dark cave, lives a mighty dragon. Yes, he is big and very red. So big, in fact, that he takes up a whole double page spread, and there he stands amongst the rubble, blowing smoke from his nostrils. Washington DC

Advantages: open, much to see and do, quite cheap
Disadvantages: not as many eateries in Washington Monument area

...My husband and I visited Washington DC in October 2007, whilst traveling around the States. We stayed for 3 nights, at the Allen Lee Hotel. Washington DC is an interesting city. Its history is in stark contrast to its modern political face and the side that is shown in movies and on TV. What struck me immediately about Washington DC were the open spaces, not just in the parks and at the water front but also when simply walking down the street; it's a nice change from the claustrophobia of many US cities. Because there was so much to see in Washington DC, we opted for a tour on one of the many open top buses that circle the city and surrounding area. At $39 for a 24hr, hop on-hop off pass, this was a real bargain and the best way to see everything in the city, in my opinion. From the war memorials and Arlington cemetary to the White...

Washington DC

Advantages: Museums are beautiful, transport good and many surprises.
Disadvantages: few, same as most places- a little dirty and a few homeless people

...Having had the pleasure of visiting Washington DC twice in my life I feel very lucky as it charmed me both times. All the major monuments are as majestic in real life as on television- apart the Whitehouse is smaller than expected but still just as beautiful. On my first trip I stayed in the Red Roof Inn Downtown which was booked through Expedia and cost about $140 for 1 night for two. It was located about 5 blocks from the Whitehouse (further than it sounds) and was quite close to Chinatown. The area did seem a little rough but the hotel itself was lovely and the staff extremely helpful. On the second trip I stayed in the Braxton Hotel which I preferred over the Red Roof Inn. It was set in a very old building and had a lot of charm to it. Despite the small double room, my girlfriend and I both found it to be very romantic...

Weekend in Washington DC

Advantages: Lots to do Very educational
Disadvantages: Tiring

...So much to see so little time. We were only in Washington D.C. for the weekend having driven down from New York and wanted to see as much as was possible in a short space of time. We booked into a cheap and cheerful Days Inn in the Arlington District and after a good night sleep put on some sensible shoes and set out exploring. First stop Arlington National Cemetery this is a beautifully kept graveyard that runs tours pinpointing famous graves. Among the thousands of white headstones lie JFK and his brother Robert to name but two. Also in the cemetery is Arlington House the former home of Robert E Lee which you can go through. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a very popular stop and every hour there is a changing of the guard, it is a very moving experience and despite the 90+ temperature it brought me out in goosepimples...

Washington Court Hotel - a great base in D.C.

Advantages: Modern, Friendly, Great Location for the Sights
Disadvantages: No free WiFi, Not much locally in the evening

George's Medicine Making Morning

Advantages: Fun for small children
Disadvantages: Lacked a certain sparkle that other Dahl books have

...An extract for George?s Marvellous Medicine was in a Roald Dahl Anthology that I was privileged to own when I was younger and was one of the things within it that I really liked reading. Because of this I was quite pleased when I discovered that my brother had the book in his Roald Dahl box set. The book is like most of Roald Dahl?s offerings rather simple and easy to read. The story is rather vibrant and entertaining and the covers of the book can merely contain the colourful characters bursting to get out. The book itself was first published in 1981 and is not too long a read, coming in at 104 pages long in my copy, which is a Puffin edition, published in 2001. Despite saying that this book is 104 pages in length, not all of these pages contain writing and some contain only a minimal amount, as the story is accompanied by some...

Review of George's Marvellous Medicine - Roald Dahl

George Michael - Twenty Five - A Masterpiece!!

Advantages: Great songs, lots of choice, two albums.
Disadvantages: Doesn't include one of my favourite ever songs.

...I received this as a present Christmas 2008 from my fiance and was really surprised with his choice of gift as although he knew I like George Michael I hadn't mentioned it or dropped any hints for it so was very pleasantly surprised. Anyway, on with the review, I have tried to provide background history, chart information, my personal review of each of the songs and a rating out of 5.
