...The Gallery is a hotel that I've stayed in many times on business and it's my first choice with my own money whenever I go to Barcelona for fun - but only if I can get a half-decent deal on the room rate. When I first started staying there about 8 years ago, we used to pay about £60 a night. Since the advent of the Euro and the increase in cheap flights to Barcelona, the prices of hotels throughout the city have shot up and this will now set you back a lot more. Just running a quick check on some of the price comparison sites, they were throwing up prices in the 200-250 Euro range, which in my book is a lot more that it's worth. WARNING *********** If you are thinking of a DIY weekend break in Barcelona you really should check out hotel availability before you book your flights. Don't bag a cheap EasyJet and assume you can find...

Advantages: Great Place To Shop

...As you will have become aware from some of my previous reviews I am not really one for trawling the high street looking for clothing items. I prefer the convenience of buying most of my items online, However on occasion we all unfortunately have to do this at some point. I had been invited to a party so thought that it was about time I invested in a new dress!! Well living and working in Glasgow the only place for me to shop has to be the Buchanan Galleries. Fortunately I always go very early in the morning to try and avoid the crowds and for the most part tend to be able to experience a good couple of hours hastle free shopping and can actually try items on quickly instead of having to wait in huge long queues. The beauty of the "galleries"as they are known locally is that they have a wide range and variety of shops under one roof...

...Originally situated in a small side street of Southsea, the Aspex Gallery was able to move to grander surroundings in December 2006. It is now housed on the ground floor of the imposing Vulcan Building in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth. Gunwharf Quays is a shopping complex that also has a cinema, bowling alley, various eateries on the waterfront, and of course the Spinnaker Tower; it attracts crowds of visitors from surrounding areas such as the Isle of Wight, Gosport, Fareham, Hayling Island, Petersfield and Havant as well as the inhabitants of Portsmouth itself and Southsea. ...The Millennium Galleries in Sheffield were recently created as part of the "Heart of the City" project, which is an ongoing rejuvenation project in Sheffield that is partly funded by National Lottery money. The Millennium Galleries opened in the Spring of 2001. They are situated right in the middle of Sheffield's City Centre, adjacent to the main Central Library Building. From the outside of the Building there is nothing to particularly indicate what you are likely to find inside. It is a modern Building constructed mainly of Glass and White Concrete, but the entrance is quite small and narrow, making it the sort of place that you could quite easily walk past. A Treasure of an Art Gallery

Advantages: Works by major British artists

...Housing one of the finest collections of modern British art outside of London, Pallant House Gallery is situated in Chichester, close to the cathedral and main shopping centre. Coming myself from a larger city in which I am sure it would be difficult to see the work of a major artist, I was quite astounded to find the Pallant Gallery tucked away in a little side street, yet boasting the ownership of works by Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Eduardo Paolozzi and Frank Auerbach amongst others. This is a gem of a gallery, and it is no surprise that it was awarded the Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year in 2007. At the time of my visit the gallery was holding a temporary exhibition (running until 8th June 2008) centring around Colin St John Wilson, a collector and architect, and another entitled The Artist at Work...

York art gallery, located in exhibition square, in the centre of York, is a York City Council owned gallery, and has recently been refurbished to the tune of nearly half a million pounds, from the heritage lottery fund and was reopened a couple of months ago by the city's Lord Mayor. The collection features works spanning 600 years from British and European art displayed in themed areas under the headings of people, places, stories, devotion, and morality. A Walk around the Walker Art Gallery

Advantages: The Art! The Architecture! Fully accessible for all! Free entry!

...The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool boasts one of the largest art collections in England. My 12 year old niece chose this as a venue for a day out in the school holidays. It had been some years since I visited previously and I had quite forgotton just how impressive it is. We had a lovely (and tiring) day and my niece returned home inspired. As you approach the gallery situated on William Brown Street, you are struck by the sheer grandeur of the gallery and its neighbouring buildings. William Brown street is the only street in Great Britain to contain nothing but than Museums, Galleries and Libraries. The National Gallery - a free afternoon

Advantages: Free and fascinatinf
Disadvantages: Sore feet

...I recently decided that a visit to The National Gallery in Trafalgar Square was long overdue. A few minutes walk from Charing Cross tube, the able bodied can climb the front steps of the Portico Enterance of the National Gallery and get good views of Trafalgar Square and Big Ben. Alternatively you can enter by the low level Getty Entrance nearby or the Sainsbury Wing entrance more to the left . I personally prefer to wander around a gallery of my own free will but you can get a variety of audio tours (highlights or themed tours, or choose whichever commentary you wish to listen to from over 1000 paintings) or free guided tours. A voluntary donation is suggested. However, I found the labeling of the paintings quite informative as to the background of most paintings. Disadvantages: Unattractive exterior of building

...The rather dull, unattractive facade of the Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery disguises what a real gem of a place this really is inside. This is Doncaster\'s only town centre museum and here you will find a whole range of different artefacts that tell the story of the history of this town back to the Roman times and even further beyond. The museum is on two different floors, both of which are fully accessible by disabled visitors, and there is a lift to the second floor. In front of the main entrance doors there is a large reception area, which has various leaflets and books relating to the local area. At this point you could be forgiven for thinking that you had walked into the local tourist information centre rather than a museum, but a quick glance around soon reveals several little anterooms, that lead off from this main foyer area...
