...Like most women I have tried my fair share of mascara's over the years and have been quite happy with the Maybelline Great Lash mascara for some time now. I try to (if I remember) replace my old tube of mascara every 6 months, but this time instead of buying my normal replacement tube I decided to try Max Factor's Masterpiece mascara, probably largely swayed by the adverts (the one with the girl from Memoirs of a Geisha), to see if it was any better, plus it was on offer in Boots at the time which I must admit was the final deciding factor. I think it normally retails at £8.99 for a 4.5ml tube which for me is quite expensive. It comes in three colours: Rich Black; Black Brown and Deep Blue. I tried Rich Black. ...Max Factor mascaras are the best around in my opinion. I started off using their Classis Stretch mascara a few years ago, then moved on to Lash Lift, but then they brought out Max Factor Masterpiece. I was in love. I still am. It's by far the best mascara I have ever tried, and it seems that I wasn't the only one with that opinion. Even now, I still read rave reviews in magazines, and see make-up artists recommending it on TV. It is rare I will stick with one product (just look at how many Beauty reviews I do, and you will see I like to try new products all the time), but I've been using Max Factor Masterpiece for a very long time. Even so, when they brought out Max Factor Masterpiece Max, I was reluctant to try it. I find many brands ride on the back of the success of one product, and use it's names to promote new ones. Advantages: More Volume and Lenthening than the original Masterpiece mascara!
Disadvantages: Dries up quickly, pricey

...After trying Max Factors first Masterpiece mascara and left feeling disappointed you would have thought that the latest Masterpiece mascara would be a definite NO from me! However, after seeing the advert, and being told that this one would give me 400x the result of its first masterpiece mascara, I decided to give it a go!! Like the previous mascara, it dried up and ran out quickly. For the price and time that the mascara lasts, it does leave you feeling slightly ripped off after paying a tenner - i got mine from Boots. (Prices now start from around £8. £7.99 in Superdrug, and £10 in Boots with 200 points added onto your Boots Advantage Card - thats £2, so equivalent of £8) However, I did feel that the MAX was better than the first masterpiece and there was more lengthening and volume to my lashes than last time! Advantages: Easy to apply, quick drying and doesn't clog the brush, your eyes or the bottle!
Disadvantages: None

...Finally! A mascara that does what it says on the advert, although I am sure there is still plenty of eyelash combing before they apply it to those super-clear skinned, wide-doe-eyed models. But hey, you don't need to be a model for this product to actually make a difference. I've never been one for really expensive make-up products. Maybelline was about as top-end as I would go, but the one problem I have always had with every single brand, from Rimmel to Maybelline, is the lack of quality of their mascaras. It's mainly the brush wand that I think causes the problem. The Masterpiece MAX Mascara has an almost contoured brush to replicate the natural shape of the human eye, whereas most others seem to be completely straight with those spiralled bristles from top to bottom. ...Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara I have tried many mascaras over the years, expensive ones, cheaper versions, until I finally found this, Max Factor Masterpiece. I opted for the waterproof version, in black. The mascara was on offer at the time in Boots so cost me around the £5 mark, if I remember rightly. The mascara itself is in a gold tube. The brush is fantastic, nice in size and I feel that it grabs the lashes perfectly, even the corners, without too much fussing about. Sometimes I like to wiggle it through to get an even better coverage. The formula is excellent; no gloops or clumps at all. The colour is rich and makes the lashes really stand out, even after just one coat. I usually only apply 1 coat, I have tried 2 and it does make the lashes feel a little heavy, although in my opinion you don't need more than 1... Read review

...Masterpiece Mascara was recommended to me by a friend who had bought it and really liked the effect it gave her lashes. She had found it really lengthened her lashes and gave volume without clumping. As I was in need of a new Mascara and quite keen to try this I decided to stop at Boots on my way home from work to pick one of these fantastic sounding Mascaras up. I would normally spend around £15 for what I had always felt was a relatively good Mascara so I was really pleased with the £8.99 price tag this Mascara carries. This Mascara also retails at other well known pharmacies and at all Major Supermarkets and seems to retail at roughly the same price in each one.
