Is it Time to Reclaim the Whole Woman?

Advantages: Very interesting and often surprising viewpoints
Disadvantages: One person's opinions, therefore not an overview of millennial feminism

...The Whole Woman is the first book I've read on feminism. Sure, I had read articles on feminism and there is a lot of feminism portrayed in various media, but never before have I taken the time to read a book on the subject. Germaine Greer is an acquired taste - her views are often seen as controversial and they are only one woman's perspective of feminism. This isn't a commentary on feminism: it is a set of personal explanations and recommendations. The book is split into sections, which are divided into smaller chapters. The titles used for these chapters explain the subject matter without frills; they include 'sex' 'girlpower' 'breasts' and 'sisters'. This makes the book seem a bit like Greer picking topics out of a hat to rant about, which is great in some ways but maybe a little chaotic in others. The most refreshing thing...

MILLENIAL FEMINISM GOES (ANTI)GLOBAL

Advantages: not a boring moment, provocative, interesting, stimulating
Disadvantages: mix-and-match as she sees fit, self-limiting, fairly shallow and untidy

..."...women always did shit work; now that the only work there is is shit work, men are unemployed." Surely, this is the reason to fight agains shit work, not the men? Germaine Greer did it again 30 years after the first bombshell. I have not read 'Female Eunuch' (I was too young when it was newly shocking but to old to study it as a classic), but I have now read the "Whole Woman" and it is wonderful. Brilliant, sparkly (no, really!) read , persuasive and angry, argumentative and irreverent, as refreshing and thought-provoking as anything I read since I suffered last Pilger attack. It's also annoying, sloppily argumented, and, ultimately, because of its fundamental assumption, very unsatisfactory. On the surface it seems to make many of general 'people issues' more real, more compelling via the method of rephrasing them as 'women...

I wouldn't want a "Holiday Inn" this hotel

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: dull, dull, dull - and not cheap either

...This hotel has been listed on Ciao for more than two years without anyone writing about it and I'm not actually all that surprised. Writing a review of a really good hotel is easy and writing one about an awful hotel is fun. But how about hotels that are just a bit blurgh - not great, not awful? Is it actually possible to write an interesting review of an uninteresting hotel? I'm still not sure about that. If you find it a bit dull, please go and read one of my other hotel reviews - they'll probably be more interesting but Ciao needs the good and the bad as well as the mediocre. Sitting in my room at the Holiday Inn in Paris St Germain de Pres I couldn't help but reflect that the designers drew heavily from that area of the colour palette best characterised by the term 'nicotine'. A Legend in Her Own Time

Advantages: Tells you what you already know you just didn't know you knew it!
Disadvantages: The style may put off a some (men)

...For any woman looking for some answers (or just a glimmer of light) or any men who genuinely want to understand today’s ‘complicated’ female of the species, you could do much worse than read this brilliant book. Germaine Greer must be one of the most underrated people of our time. I have nothing but respect and admiration for this woman who has always stuck her neck out and often been rubbished for it. Yes she can be controversial but isn’t everyone labelled this who is simply expressing a new idea, a different way of seeing how things are, or an opinion that people (mostly men) find hard to stomach and don’t want to hear. Why is she so threatening? Because what she does say rings true. And how she expresses herself! This book encapsulates her no nonsense, just tell it how it is views of what it is...

Small, but perfectly formed boutique hotel

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Tiny baths!

...Just back from 4 great nights in Paris at La Villa hotel. The location is fantastic - only a short walk away from loads of exciting restaurants and cafe-bars in the happening Latin Quarter. Try out Le Pres Aux Clercs next door (Hemingway's old haunt apparently, he used to live close by) - the food is fairly expensive but very good and the massive tree in the middle of the dining room is amazing! The hotel itself is on a quiet street in the heart of St Germain, plus all the rooms have shutters, which help to keep the noise to a minimum at night. The reception staff at La Villa are generally very helpful and the rooms are clean and well-decorated/furnished. Each room is equipped with a minibar, complimentary toiletries,robes and hairdryer. My only complaint is that the baths are very small (I could not lie down in ours, and I am only 5...
