...Marian Keyes is a prolific writer, and has written other books such as 'Watermelon', 'Rachel's Holiday', and 'Sushi for Beginners' - the latter two of which I have read. This book proved to be as good - perhaps even better - than the other two that I read.
The book begins with Lucy Sulliven and three of her workmates - Hetty, Meridith, and Megan - going to see a fortune teller. Lucy is told that she is gettingmarried within the next year, and remains sceptical - especially as she is not even going out with anyone. This scepticism continues, even when her workmates tell her that their predictions have come true.
Lucy goes out with her best friend, Daniel, for a meal and when they head to a party afterwards, Lucy meets someone who she becomes involved with. At the same party, Daniel becomes involved with one of Lucy...
...just after coming back from rehabilitation. There is obvious scrutiny of her character, mostly by the relatives and invitees. The family is divided, with her being her dad's favorite daughter, and her sister not liking the fact. The relations seems real, not in contrasting white and black, but rather in the gray region. There's love between sisters and yet there is this jealousy(well,jealousy is not the precise word here),probably sibling rivalry is better. Add a pair of divorced parents, it just makes it more complicated and interesting.
Rachel gettingmarried is subtle and probably will linger on your mind if you have a sister.Girls might like this film more. I am not sure of repeated viewings for this film, but its worth a watch!

The best way to describe Granny (Esme) Weatherwax would be to describe her as a spoilt kid or in this case a witch who always gets her own way. If you want to remain human never make her cross or she may be tempted to turn you into a frog or something worse. If you don't find yourself green and siting on a lily pad you may be subject to one of Granny's famous glares. Terry writes that a glare from Granny Weather could scare the most fearsome of creatures.

I wasn't too keen to see this film. I don't know why. I think it may have been an apprehension of seeing a film advertised as gritty and human psyche delving, which I normally wouldn't mind, but starring Anne Hathaway? Don't get me wrong, I like Anne Hathaway. 'The Devil Wears Prada' was very good and 'The Princess Diaries' was, um, very pink? But the thought of her playing an affected rehab patient, didn't bode well in my mind. As always, never judge a film by it's cover, or I mean, by it's cast and trailer? (that can't be right?)
