...WWP is a deceptively simple 2D turn based game. If you haven’t played it before you may wonder what all the fuss is about. The graphics are hardly impressive but that’s not what WWP is about. It’s about strategy, action and addictiveness. Each player controls a team of worms who battle against other teams until there is only one worm left standing, so to speak. You have an massive array of weapons including air strikes, guns, bombs and so on. You also have special weapons like ninja ropes, transporters and drills that allow you to manoeuvre you worms about the screen. There are around 20 special training arenas to perfect your skills and over 40 single player missions where you play against computer teams that gradually get more and more difficult. Three words "A CRAZY GAME" Make your team, name your players, choose your flag, choose how your worms speak and prepare to make virtual worms kill each other for no reason at all. I remember I used to go round to my cousins house were we would sit my two cousins and I around the computer playing multi-player. Once we got the box opened there were four bright cards with a picture of a worm on each one, a red/green plastic apple shaped aprox 8" diameter playing piece with twenty holes and a lever on the top of the right hand side and twenty wiggly worms. There are four colours in the game - red, green, blue and yellow so that means there are 5 worms for each colour. The worms go into each hole on the playing piece so the coloured end is not showing. The game is designed for two to four players, so each player picks a card and the colour of worm on the card is the colour of worm they are looking for. So with all the worms in their holes we are ready to play. You can play a multiplayer game, with up to four players or you can play the computer in the traditional way, a single player campaign! There is also an online multiplayer option, which I can't comment on because I havn't tried it! I don't see why it wouldn't work the same as the rest of the game. Overall I think the game is a very good idea on paper, but in graphics it may not seem as good. It is a very difficult task of taking the 2D Belly crawling worms and turning them 3D. The game has it's downsides, hard to get used to controls, hard to aim weapons and a not so hard to get Giant Laser, which lays waist to your enemies base in seonds. ...multiplayer handheld titles available, and if that's your bag then it's worthy of investing in. The single player mode grows tiresome very quickly. The challenges the console set for you are fun for a while, but even they get boring. Then all you are left with is just playing against the DS in a series of pointless one-on-one matches. A campaign mode or similar should be pretty much essential for games like this. I totally wouldn't recommend buying this if you don't have any friends. I would recommend you bought some friends instead. I guess the only thing left to cover is the touchscreen facility. The implementation of the touchscreen has made selecting weapons and tools easier. That's about all it does. Fair enough, Worms wasn't created for the DS, and rearranging it all so it fits the new system would ruin the game. They've done the best...
