You'd think that it would be pretty cool to see ghosts and be able to talk to them when no one else could see or talk to them. Ghost Town

Advantages: Funnyman Ricky Gervais
Disadvantages: It's underrated

...and less sarcastic side of Gervais in parts, too. For the storyline, we follow Gervais's life as a very boring, very antisocial dentist, who absolutely hates everybody and doesn't care for anyone but himself. In the beginning, has to have a basic operation, however, after the op, lots of people start following him. He starts getting worried, and then when he finds out that all these people are ghosts, he heads back to the hospital to tell his doctor that he's having halucinations. Here the comedy starts kicking in, as we see the conversation between Gervais and his unsympathetic, difficult-to-talk to doctor who is more concerned about her tan. She reluctantly, but hiliariously, then informs Gervais that he died for seven minutes during his procedure. Gervais then has his life turned around by ghosts wanting his help to settle unfinished...

...This was a film that I had seen the previews fir and wanted to go and see it but i never managed to get around to it. I was lucky enough to catch this film on my flight to New York and this film kept me highly entertained throughout the flight, if you like Ricky Gervais you will love this film. Give it a Ghost of a Chance

Advantages: Likeable performances all round and enough funny moments.
Disadvantages: It's unoriginal and the direction is uninspired.

...arrangements of piano and chasing strings, some 1960s' style acoustic guitar pop with Hammond organ and tambourine and frantic discordant violin with bongos when Pincus is being chased by a group of ghosts. When things inevitably go wrong for him, his moping is accompanied by mournful piano and violin. His attempts to put things right are backed by slightly syrupy sorrowful woodwinds, violin and piano. It's a reasonable accompaniment to the film that might even work out of context. "Ghost Town" is a highly unoriginal but likeable comedy that works because of the director's light touch and the consistent turns by its cast. It's a reasonable way to while away the best part of an hour-and-three-quarters and it will no doubt become a perennial favourite when it hits television. ...Okay so its eleven o' clock at night; why am I writing this review now? Well, it's because I am still buzzing with excitement after just seeing a film in the cinema. I had been waiting to see Ghost Town since I first saw the trailers, and now I have had the chance, and what a film it was! Ghost Town, set in Manhattan, is a film about one man, a dentist, named Dr. Bertram Pincus. He goes in for a bowel operation and manages to die for seven minutes on the table. When he awakes and leaves the hospital, he discovers he can see the dead people (the ghosts!). All these ghosts keep pestering him to help them, but none more than this one ghost, Frank. He died, leaving his wife (Gwen) behind as a widow. Now his wife is planning on marrying a 'bad man' and Frank wants to make sure she does anything but! He pressures Pincus into doing the job...

...What a film, i liked this film, and do not tend to watch comedy films that much. This is the first one i have seen in a while and i really disliked Ricky Gervais until now. It isnt only funny in general, you will laugh even after the movie by taking on the jokes yourself. The storyline is really good and understandable, and the comical and textbook humour is hillarious. Every couple of seconds you are bound to hear a joke in this film that will have you upside down in your seat. I really did enjoy it and it is an overall nice film to watch. Bertram See's Dead People!

Advantages: good funny story, good acting
Disadvantages: Ricky Gervais is the lead actor!

...and all the dentist instruments and as I am petrified of dentists and especially the noise of the drill this made for hard viewing for me! The DVD which we have doe shave some bonus material which includes:- Making Ghost Town Ghostly Effects Some People Can Do It We did not take the time to watch these so cannot give comment on them. The running time of this film is 98 minutes which both me and hubby found very suitable as it meant the story kept moving at a good pace from start to finish and did not drag. The certificate on this film is a 12 which I think is a little high and I personally would let a mature child of 10 years and up watch this. Yes there is some strong infrequent language in the film but nothing that they could not hear in on of the other programmes on the TV or indeed walking down the street. We did manage to...

...don't worry as he plays out the guy you think he is and with lots of gentle laughs to be had in what is a well constructed Hollywood comedy and you will feel your £3.95 isn't wasted. Hardcore Gervais fans will have to wait another day for the movie we really want him to make, as we did with Sasha Baron Cohen... = = = = Special Features = = = = -Audio commentary- Director David Koep and Ricky giggle their way through the layered track.
