Reviews of ghostbusters
Either I have a monster in my kitchen...
Review of Ghostbusters DVD by
tuftie
Advantages: Exciting, funny, a little scary
Disadvantages: I feel old
...Ghostbusters is a 1984 fantasy comedy about a team of spook-chasing scientists.
THE STORY
When Drs Venkman, Spengler and Stanz are fired from their posts as tutors at a university, they decide to set up their own business as paranormal investigators. They rent a disused fire station, buy an old ambulance and Ghostbusters is born.
Meanwhile, concert cellist Dana Barrett returns home to find her kitchen has been possessed. Who's she gonna call? Ghostbusters!
THE CAST
Bill Murray as Peter Venkman
Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stanz
Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett
Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler
Rick Moranis as Louis Tully
William Atherton as Walter Peck
Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddmore
Bill Murray was in Lost In Translation, Groundhog Day and The Life Aquatic. I think he's brilliant in Ghostbusters. As Venkman he comes across more as a used car...

Duck Mr. Staypuff!
Review of Ghostbusters (15th Anniversary Edition) (Wide Screen) by
JeffSumm
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Ghostbusters was certainly a case of 'the right movie at the right time'. The music was hip and cool, the actors funny with the right personality, and the content just right for the times. Was it fate or good luck that a bunch of maladjusted eggheads happened to start a ghost removal service just when the little buggers started showing up in New York City? This is a fast paced, funny movie, not overly sophisticated, and suitable for the whole family. If you didn't see it you weren't near electricity in the 80s....

Who you gonna call?
Review of Ghostbusters 2 DVD by
Phelthew
Advantages: Classic film. Funny. Bill Murray
Disadvantages: Not as funny as 1. There's no Ghostbusters 3
...Ghostbusters I was released in 1984 to great success it has become a cult classic since then and I'm sure everyone is aware of the franchise. It is no-longer possible to innocently say 'Who you gonna call?' without someone instantly shouting 'GHOSTBUSTERS!'
Ghostbusters II was an equally succesful sequel released 5 years later with the same cast.
It is 5 years on in the story and the Ghostbusters are now defunct. The destruction wrought at the end of their last adventure lead to massive law suits against them and they went broke. Ray and Winston (Dan Akroyd and Ernie Hudson) now go around entertaining children at birthday parties but even the kids are no-longer interested as the new craze has left Ghostbusters behind. Egon (Harold Ramis) has gone back to being a simple scientist and the cocky and hilarious Peter Venkman (Bill Murray...

They're back to save the day!
Review of Ghostbusters 2 DVD by
Rhynoone
Advantages: Great family movie! Funny, interesting and exciting.
Disadvantages: None
...Ghostbusters 2 is set five years after the original Ghostbusters film. Even though the guys saved the city in the first movie, it seems that they were sued by every government agency in the city due to the mass destruction they caused in the process. With their reputation in tatters, their business bankrupt and supernatural activity having dried up, the guys are forced into other lines of work: Peter Venkman (Bill Murray - Lost in Translation, Groundhog Day) hosts low budget chat show 'World of the Psychic', Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis - Orange County, Knocked Up) carries out experiments at a research institute and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd - Blues Brothers, Dragnet) owns bookshop 'Ray's Occult' as well as performing at kids parties with Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson - Oz, Desperate Housewives). The guys are called into action again...

Who yer gonna call?
Review of Ghostbusters / Ghostbusters 2 (Special Edition) by
Danneey
Advantages: Digitially remastered classics, funny, special effects still believable now
Disadvantages: Special Features for Ghostbusters not as good as the individual release
...Have you seen Ghostbusters? Surely you must have, it's an all-time classic that is still a truely enjoyable romp now.
Ghostbusters
Three college professors Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Peter Venkman, are fired from their jobs for their fascination with the paranormal, and decide to go into business together as paranormal investigators. They find an old fire station which is falling to bits, but Ray likes the pole, so they buy it. Ray is also responsible for their company car, an old hearse that has seen better days.
Dana Barrett becomes their first client, after experiencing eggs frying on her kitchen counter, and soon the guys are chasing ghosts all around New York City. Dana and her neighbour Lewis are hunted by the dogs of Zuul and become the "Gatekeaper" and "Keymaster" of the gates to another dimension.
The climax...

I am the Keymaster!
Review of Ghostbusters DVD by
pmcds
Advantages: Great innovative film
Disadvantages: May not be to everyone's subject liking
...1984's Ghostbusters was a huge success, acclaimed critically and commercially. It spawned a huge fanbase and is still strong today. Director Ivan Reitman could not have known what would happen.
The Plot
Three unemployed parapsychology scientists form a company to rid New York of unwanted paranormal presences. With their hi-tech gadgets and exciting grey boiler suits, they set up base in an old firestation, employ a secretary, and pretty soon are getting phone calls asking them to get rid of ghosts. However, something bigger is lurking on the horizon. An evil demon is threatening to cross through into our world, and two innocent civilians are possessed in order for this to happen. The Ghostbusters must stop this before it's too late.
The Cast and Performances
Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis play the three mad scientists...

Ghostbusters 2
Review of Ghostbusters 2 DVD by
sharktrager2000
Advantages: All the original team return
Disadvantages: It's not as original as the first
...From the vantage point of 2005 it is easy to forget how BIG the whole GHOSTBUSTERS thing was back in the mid-1980s. The original film had been released in 1984 and at one point was the biggest-grossing comedy of all time. The Internet Movie Database currently lists it as the 143rd top grossing movie ever worldwide, which is quite a feat 21 years after its release.
It was of course inevitable that a sequel would come along, but what is surprising is how long it took to arrive. It was 1989 before audiences were able to see the further adventures of the ghost-busting team, although children's appetites had been sated by animated television shows over the intervening years.
Why was there such a delay? Partly due to the popularity of the stars (and as such they were all very busy) but partly due to the behind-the-scenes shenanigans...

Do The Evolution
Review of Evolution (Wide Screen) by
peppersinclaire
Advantages: Funny, good effects, tongue-in-cheek
Disadvantages: Some cheesey moments, bit weak in places
...So, I hear that Ghostbusters 3 has been in development hell for quite a while, and there is something holding it back. Ivan Reitman is obviously fed up with waiting for it to happen, so here is Evolution. Ghostbusters 3 in all but name and with no "DON'T CROSS THE BEAMS!".
I understand the movie was originally going to be a horror, this is very telling as wen you watch the film, you may jump once or twice (me and my girlfriend did), and can see where comedy has replaced "Oh my God it's eating hiom alive" moments.
The Ghostbusters theme comes from three ordinary joes (David Duchovny, Orlando Jones and Seam Wiliam Scott (I think I've gotten his name wrong) stare at a meteroite for a while (strangely, the meteor lands without mashing up the nearby town a la Armageddon) and scrape some ooze off it.
Back in Fox, er, I mean Ira (Duchovny...

Who you gonna call
Review of Ghostbusters (15th Anniversary Edition) (Wide Screen) by
Plissken
Advantages: Great fun from beginning to end.
Disadvantages: Special effects look a little dated.
...Originally intended as a vehicle for Akroyd and fellow Blues Brother Belushi, the fat one with the penchant for ludicrous amounts of drugs was already on the other side by the time it went into production. Instead, the exuberant supernatural comedy ended up as a star vehicle for another 'Saturday Night Live'-er, Bill Murray.
In truth, it's difficult to imagine a film involving Akroyd and Belushi chasing Slimer and the gang round being such a crowd-pleasing blockbuster as 'Ghostbusters' turned out to be. On first release, the hook was the special effects. Now they've dated, the reason 'Ghostbusters' remains such top quality entertainment is the first-rate script and the great chemistry between the three main leads, Akroyd, Murray and Ramis, backed up by Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis.
The story involves mature...

"Who you gonna call?"
Review of Ghostbusters / Ghostbusters 2 (Special Edition) by
gazzalondon
Advantages: 2 great films good family fun great cast
Disadvantages: none
...The first Ghostbusters was one of my favourite films growing up in the 80s and although i was still relatively young the firsy time i saw it i was suitable impressed.
GHOSTBUSTERS (1984)
The story centres around 3 scientists, Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) & Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) who get fired from their jobs at university. They decide to use their knowlege in the paranormal and set up a freelance Ghostbusting business.
They begin at the library where they encounter their first ghost and this is probably the scariest moment in the film and also one of the funniest, although I would say that this one scene is the one that will cause young children nightmares.
Having purchased an old firehouse the business is up and running and they soon get their first customer, Dana Barrett (Sigourney...
