Underwater in Gibraltar

Advantages: Fun in the sun
Disadvantages: It is not an island

...Sticking out of the bottom of Spain the Rock of Gibraltar is an unusual diving destination. Almost undiscovered by British divers, it offers a wealth of wreck, historical and scenic dives with warm(-ish) water within striking distance for a holiday. ------------------------------------------------------------------- HISTORY ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Rock of Gibraltar is part of the sea floor upended by powerful geological processes and dropped at the southern tip of Europe to form one of the Pillars of Hercules guarding the entrance to the Mediterranean. Underwater, the topography follows that of the land with a steeply shelving seabed. Neanderthal man lived in the caves around Gibraltar between 120,000 and 60,000 years ago and the Rock was visited by Phoenician and Roman sea...

Gibraltar and the secret way on the rock

Advantages: Nice east secret path, good views, spectacular nature
Disadvantages: Many people on the main road to the top

...Gibreltar - the great place i visited with my friends in summer 2005. I was there with my car and there are some things usefull to know. First thing is that there are drivers driving on the right side eventhough it is England. For those comming by car is good to know that there is cheapest petron in whole europe - cheaper than in Luxemburg and other cheap localities so dont forget not to take petrol before entering gibraltar. Gibraltar is not spacefull and therefore you can see a weird airport made in the world war. It is on the only flatland and the main road to city is crossing it. So there are gates like on the railway being down when some plane is landing or taking off. It takes some time to take off so be patient if there is a jam it is surely because of the airport. When you got with your car to the entrance on the rock you...

A Reflection on the Straits of Gibraltar

Advantages: Speak English and use the pound - worth seeing just for the Rock and dolphins
Disadvantages: Not a lot more to do

...It has been over a year, now, since we visited Gibraltar for a holiday. I have been asked to write a review but have just never got round to it before. We had never visited Gibraltar before and only chose it for the following reasons, English is their native tongue (neither of us speaks Spanish), they use Pounds Sterling as their currency, we were looking for somewhere warm (but not your typical Spanish beach holiday) but mostly because it was ?a bit different?. We read up on what to expect and what there is to do on the internet, beforehand and we applied for a brochure from the Gibraltar government in London <http://www.gibraltar.gov.uk/>. There are quite a few other useful websites that are easy to find using a search engine. I searched all the internet travel agents selling holidays to Gibraltar and found City Vacations to...

My home away from home

Advantages: Lovely people, lots of things to do, relaxed and friendly place, use pounds and speak English
Disadvantages: Not suitable for a group of young adults holiday

...Gibraltar is one of my favourite holiday destinations and I have been going there almost every year since I was a toddler. I even lived out there for a couple of months when I was about 7 and I plan to move out there in the future and spend a few months working. My uncle married a Gibraltarian woman which is the main reason that we go out there so much to see her family but, even if I didn't have family out there, I would still have regular holidays there. ~ Things to do ~ Although just a small country, there is so much to see and do in Gibraltar. The main attraction is obviously the rock which gives you amazing views over the rest of the country and you can also see out to Africa from the top (Europa Point). All over the rock, mainly at the top, you will find the cheeky Barbary Apes. There are a lot of these and, although cute...

Great fun monkeying around

Advantages: Duty and tax free shopping, totally different place, great views from the Rock
Disadvantages: Easy to get ripped off ,.

...Our recent holiday to The Algarve , Portugal saw us taking a coach excursion to Gibraltar. Gibraltar is a promontory that juts out of the coastline of Spain. It belongs to Great Britain and it's citizens all hold British passports. We had a great visit but if you are considering the same sort of day trip, be warned, it was a lengthy journey. We were picked up at 5.45am and did not arrive back in Albufeira until 10.30pm, having had 5 hours in Gibraltar. We could have flown home and back a couple of times, in the time it took. Still we had a great day but obviously it is tiring and not for everyone. The coach booking cost 32 Euros each but many of our companions had secured two for one deals and only paid around 30 Euros per couple. Taking such a 'day experience' requires you to take your passport. We did not have our passports checked...

A little bit of paradise within touching distance

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Nothing

...Gibraltar is in Spain but belongs to the UK and there have been many issues with all this in the past. I have made a few trips over to this great and fantastic country and have always found other things to try out and places to explore. The first thing I have to point out is the amazing view from the air when you are coming into land. The second thing is that you land on a high street - this is not a joke - they shut off the high street and you land. This is quite a sight when you get off the plane and you can watch other planes coming in, but for people not to keen on flying I would say think before you leap. Gibraltar is not a very hard place to navigate really and you have a choice of getting buses or a taxi once you leave the airport or even hire a car if you are going to leave Gibraltar and explore parts of Spain. All modes...

The famous Rock of Gibraltar

Advantages: The apes, beautiful scenery and palces to eat
Disadvantages: Absolutely none

...If you're considering a holiday to Gibraltar, or even just a day trip there from Spain, a trip up to the Rock of Gibraltar is definetely a must. The most popular tourist attraction up here is the Barbary Apes, that live and breed on the Rock. Be careful if you have children though, don't let them (or yourselves!) tormont the apes and they CAN get aggresive and have been known to pinch tourist's handbags and their shiny new cameras (believe me I know) and don't feed them neither. Don't forget that you're entering into their home territory, how would you like it if the roles were reversed! There's more that just the Apes though. Up the rock you'll fine a Nature Reserve with beautiful species of wildlife, there's a plaque where Queen Elizabeth stood when she looked out over Gibraltar. And you can visit the cannons and ancient battle...

Gibraltar the best rack to buy

Advantages: strong, sturdy, simple, easy to set up
Disadvantages: four legs so can be unbalanced

...i have owned the gibraltar road series rack for a couple of years and it is a must buy, providing you have the money. the simplicity of the design makes it easy to move around, to gigs/practices and also helps with space issues. the best feature for me is the flexibility of the ball joints used for connecting toms to the rack, they allow the tom to be at any angle, which for anyone with rack mountable toms need. one drawback i have encountered with the rack is if the floor is uneven the rack does not balance with all legs on the floor, which is extremely annoying and unstable, especially if you have expensive equipment attached to it which could get damaged. To finish on a plus, the hardware is very strong and good longevity, i feel the rack will last me for the rest of my playing career....

ENGLISH BOBBIES IN THE SUN

Advantages: British money, British speaking people.
Disadvantages: Crowded.

...There are those that like to go abroad to get away from it all, and there are those who are a little less ambitious and chose holiday resorts where their own mother tongue is spoken. It is difficult to talk about Gibraltar without being pulled into the political situation which makes Gib part of British soil. This review is written more from a visitors point of view because it is what the visitor sees and enjoys in Gibraltar that makes interesting reading for a would be holiday maker, rather than an endless history lesson. This is how I see Gibraltar, and how I would hope a lot of future holiday makers will see it. FLIGHTS TO GET THERE Flights to Gibraltar can be found on LastMinute.com from Ł119 for a fortnight. This is much cheaper than when I was there, and I believe shopping around, that it would be worth taking into...

Marriage on the Rock(s)

Advantages: friendly, cheap, english speaking
Disadvantages: limited things to do

...This review is about getting married in Gibraltar, nick-named "The Rock" but, strictly speaking, a small peninsula jutting out from the heel of Spain. After lengthy discussions about where we should wed, we finally married in Gibraltar in May this year. There were a number of reasons for this slightly unusual choice of locations. Most importantly:- - we wanted a civil ceremony - we wanted a small reception - we wanted it to be inexpensive but memorable The easiest solution was to have the wedding abroad - that way we could celebrate our marriage whilst at the same time, avoiding offending pals for not inviting them. We hit on the idea of Vegas first but this proved to be costly and our parents weren't up for travelling that far. We then considered Spain but after much research we concluded that the language barrier, legal...
